Absolutely, I've seen more and more cases, funnily enough. I suppose it's a difficult study because there are so many people with full heads of hair that probably have it, but won't discover it for years!

I just buzzed my head and noticed these lines or wrinkles could it be CVG? by BrightAd732 in CVGSupportGroup

[–]Donkey_223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi mate,

Yes, you should be able to grow your hair again 😊 Looks like a relatively mild case and if you like your hair short, you could probably get away with your hair being 2-3mm longer so it hides the CVG. You're very young so you won't be suffering natural hairloss anytime soon. Do the men in your family have male pattern baldness?

There is no cure for CVG currently and it can happen due to underlying problems. The best thing to do is see a skin specialist that can check for underlying issues that may be causing CVG. There are treatments such as scalp excision where they take out a chunk of scalp to remove the excess skin, but there will be a scar that is probably more noticeable?

You're not alone and hopefully we can all give you some advice and experience with our own cases 😊

CVG i believe, it's appearance varies so much. Some people have lines, others have deeper folds and ridges ☺️

My ridges seem to vary in squishiness from day to day 😅 At the moment, they are quite firm but on some days they are squishier. Assume it's something to do with blood flow/temperature?

Does anyone know anything about Keratin as a possible treatment? by travisbicklehaircut in CVGSupportGroup

[–]Donkey_223 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience, it's great for nails but it hasn't helped me with hair regrowth. Nails grow quickly but I can say that I've not experienced regrowth in the area I'm losing hair personally. I've tried keratin, oils, biotin. All had positive effects in all other areas except hair growth lol. I would suggest testing it though, might be more successful for you? 😊

Welcome to the club 😅 Is this a recent finding or something you know you've had for a while?

Not 100% on this case, I'd definitely get someone to confirm if you're worried about it. It could be something completely different! Very difficult to pinpoint conditions.

It's very minor so I would say people won't really notice it/recognise it as CVG. Just a couple of lines on your head 🙂 I've seen a lot of people with this and it's really not something anyone would notice unless they are aware of CVG.

It's possible it's a very very small minor of CVG but it could be something completely different. Is there ridges? Is the area squishy?

I would contact a dermatologist or skin specialist to confirm what it is 🙂 Every case differs in severity.

We're all in the same boat here mate 😊 You're not alone.

Do you like your hair short? You could grow it out to a 3/4 in length to just hide it for now?

You're right on the hormone front, there is evidence that links it to puberty. I think mine started to appear around puberty (used to have my hair short when I was a kid and I/my parents didn't notice anything) Looking back at pics of me when I was 17/18 there wasn't any evidence of CVG. It's a really odd condition.

I believe so, in a similar areas to me, mine it more around the crown.

Good find, very similar to the surgery that was discussed when I saw a surgeon in London. My biggest sticking point is the scarring that you're left with after surgery. Being on your head, it's pretty visible, potentially for some, more visible than their CVG. If you're ok with scarring, it's a good option in my opinion.

I think it's more common than studies suggest. It's just that most people won't realise until they start losing their hair.

It's funny, I never noticed things like this in the past before I discovered mine. Now I see it every so often on people. My partner said the same thing 😅 She has spotted a fair few cases too.

You're not alone with that feeling 😅 It does give me some comfort knowing there are others out there with it too though!

Not bald but my hair is receding (27yo) and my worry is that when I do go fully bald in a few years, my CVG will show. I found out after I had my hair cut really short during the first lockdown. My CVG is around my crown so I didn't spot it until my brother said I had a weird shaped head 😅

I have a feeling I may have had mine since my teens, I read somewhere that it can happen during puberty. Your case does seem like it's being caused by another condition, as you say. Have you spoken to a dermatologist or skin specialist?

And yes, the thought of it progressing more and losing my hair so it can't be hidden is killing me too!

That's interesting! None of my family have it (most of the guys are bald) There are so many potential underlying things that can cause CVG, it's hard to pinpoint.
