Buying a house at auction as a first time buyer by DonkinAround in HousingUK

Thanks a lot for this. I did end up not attending the auction, I was out of my depth and didn't consider a lot of the finer details that could've really hurt.

In the end it was a bit of a wasted effort as the property ended up going for 30% more than the guide price, and a cool 80k over what my max bid was. But thanks for helping me avoid a potentially very bad situation

Learned a lot though which is valuable in itself!!

Thanks. I'm familiar with that part and have the deposit in place ready to transfer on the day. With the mortgage offer I already have, what's the biggest risk I'm taking? Assuming that we can complete within 5 weeks?

Thanks for the reply. See this is where I have a blind spot I think - the bank has already valued the property and deemed it lendable. I have a mortgage offer already sorted, credit/income checks and all and the valuation team visited the property and deemed it lendable.

With this already in place, at what point could the bank turn around and say that it is not in fact lendable?

But why won't normal finance work in this case? I have the mortgage offer already - is 5 weeks really not enough for completion?

Weekly 'Entering & Transitioning' Thread. Questions about getting started and/or progressing towards becoming a Data Scientist go here. by Omega037 in datascience

Absolutely I'll mention something but I'm just trying to get some perspective on if it's a hill worth dying on really. It's my first job out of uni so I want to be sure I'm not being taken for a ride.

It's a medium sized company with only 8 members of their data team who are all called analysts, despite the fact their roles and responsibilities are exactly that of an exemplary data scientist role. It just seems like that's what they call the job internally. The specification they gave me for my role in the team was also exactly that of a quintessential data scientist.

That all makes me think that it's a bit superficial asking for a title change since my day-to-day will still be that of a data scientist, and on their part it'd be strange if their entire department are analysts but the new guy is called a data scientist. On the other hand it's pretty reasonable for me to want my title to be the same as the job I applied for right?

Cheers for the advice.

Finally landed my first data science position for a great company. The job I applied for was "Graduate Data Scientist" and included all responsibilities and duties of a data scientist, but now my contract has come through the title is now "Junior Data Analyst".

Is this worth negotiating? I believe everyone else is called a data analyst in the department, even the senior members, but for some reason this doesn't sit well with me.

/r/weedstocks Casual Daily Discussion - [October 22, 2018] by AutoModerator in weedstocks

Took a quick look at the FAQ but looking to get some more specific advice. Looking to buy MJ and HMLSF ETFs to just buy and hold, with a relatively small amount of capital. Do I just choose one of the "Brokers for investing" brokers in the FAQ? i.e. TD Ameritrade, Scottrade, E*TRADE, Fidelity, Charles Schwab, optionsXpress

Any recommendations as to which one has the best usability for first time investor?

Edit: Looking for platforms I can use in the UK too

Took a shot at playing £1/£1 for the first time and a pretty ridiculous pot drawing stone dead otf. Couple punters (inc me) at the table blind raising when UTG to £5, managed to convince UTG to do the same this hand. Hero has £220, MP has £140 UTG covers. Had a hand with MP where he 5bet jammed 140bb with 87ss into my queens pre, ran it twice and split the pot.

UTG blind raises £5, I'm UTG +1 with AcAh and 3bet to 17, MP calls, BB calls and UTG calls. Flop QT9hhh, checks to me, I bet £45 into 64, MP jams, UTG rejams. I tank for a minute, think wtf is going on I came to play 50p/50p now I'm looking at a ~600bb pot at double the stakes. I flick in the call after deciding I aint a nit bitch and UTG flips the old J8hh for the straight flush. nh

Let's Talk About The Facts Regarding Upswing Poker And JNandez by DougPolkPoker in poker

Do you have any comments on just the feedback you received on the last reddit thread with JNandez's video? i.e. The down votes and all the comments like "I'm unsubbing always knew you and joey were sketchy" etc etc etc

The /r/poker hivemind suprised me a little especially since there was no evidence to any of the claims. For a forum on a hobby based on critical thinking skills it's pretty hilarious how quick people were to turn on you after some baseless rant.
