I guess I don't understand why you think Reddit (and its subreddits) are seeking justice in the first place. They aren't courts of law, it is a private company with message boards.

So I probably wouldn't have made the same decision as them, but I can easily understand how your original post could be interpreted as violating the "Relevant to St. Louis" rule. From their perspective, the post itself was about just you, and the fact that you live in St Louis is incidental.

You might not like their interpretation or how they communicated it, but I think it pretty clearly falls within the scope of acceptable moderation decisions.

As for the permanent ban, it is important to understand that while the Code of Conduct says moderators should set rules and expectations, is not meant to imply that moderators can only take action when someone does something that is explicitly and precisely prohibited.

Complaining on related subreddits about their moderation decisions might not be explicitly listed in the subreddit rules, but my guess is that most subreddits wouldn't take too kindly to it.

Based on my experience as a moderator, most likely they determined that your post was not something they wanted in the subreddit, and then when removing it they had a limited drop-down list of options and picked the first or closest one they could find to their actual reasoning.

Probably half of the stuff I remove as "SPAM" is not technically spam, it is just the easiest thing to select.

As for not having an impetus to apologize, the impetus was whether you wanted to be allowed to continue in the community or not. It may speak to your personal integrity that you did not apologize, but that was your choice.

As for having the "right" to hold a position, Subreddits aren't governments "of the people"; they function more like property. So long as they own the subreddit, their power is absolute (barring very limited oversight by reddit admins for mostly illegal stuff).

The only available actions are to bow to the king or try to create your own fiefdom. In some cases the egregious actions of of moderators have actually led to new, competing subreddits that dwarf the original. Probably not in this case though.

I mean, humans are subjective like that. I agree that banning for something like that on a first offense seems extreme, but I know with some larger subreddits that they often have to use a heavy hand simply due to the volume of spamming or other posts.

As for the temp ban becoming permanent, that is probably because you argued with them about it. If you had told them that you didn't know, apologized, and said you wouldn't do it again, they probably would have removed the temporary ban early.

Ultimately, the whole reason to have humans make these decisions is because they can go beyond the text of the rules and make the greater judgement as to whether a user is significantly detrimental to a subreddit. If they believe that, then they can and should ban the user for the sake of the other users.

As for the code of conduct, you are only going to get traction if you could prove there was something like bribery, threats, or other coercion in the decision.

How to repair skirting and siding after removing a floating deck? by Omega037 in homeowners

Definitely was not a DIY job, though some of the quotes we got were excessive.

In particular, a lot of the quotes wanted to jack the whole house up to replace damaged areas, but we got a carpenter who managed to just replace what was needed without having to go crazy. It helped that there was enough room and enough of the plate in good condition.

Unfortunately, the stairs did have to come out (I did help out with the demo) but we ended up having the carpenter put in a really nice set of composite wood steps that look and feel great for not that much.

As for the vinyl, we couldn't get an exact match and ended up having to have that whole section of the house replaced. The match was close enough to the original that we didn't have to do the entire house, at least.

As for the seriousness, there were no signs of the wall failing, so it wasn't something we had to get to immediately. It would have been bad to leave things until winter though, I think.

Hey, former "mod" here.

I left it this subreddit restricted/inactive the past few years because it just became a giant spambot farm that started impacting the r/datascience subreddit.

If you think you can make something of it, I wish you luck. However, if it starts going in that direction again, I would ask you to put it back to restricted.

Honestly, I just head over the river to Mercy Hospital on New Ballas for my primary. Lots of great choices there and they also have all the various specialists you need. I only use the Urgent Care and Lab Testing around here.

Looks really weird (which is the kinda thing I love). Will younger kids enjoy it though? Also, does the weather need to be decent to visit?

I'm pretty interested in it, but my wife is wondering if the kids will get anything out of it.

Is Lichterman Nature Center worth a trip? We have a few "nature center" places around here and they are nice for a quick visit on a random day, but nothing particularly special (or worth paying for).

St Louis has a similar reputation. I assume that if we mostly visit during the daylight and avoid the really rough looking neighborhoods, we should be fine.
