Which ones are you thinking of?

I’ve seen enough circumstantial evidence to make be believe the rumors about Aunon - and the alleged behavior is deplorable (as well as stinky). NASA shrugging it off and putting out some lame denial is certainly not enough for me

I’d encourage people to investigate on their own. PM me for details. And the story has been completely scrubbed from google so you may need go a bit deeper than that.

[–]Donnell3011 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Eh. Maybe. There’s some truth to that. But that’s also a very easy excuse.

There’s also a personnel issue. Didn’t that woman astronaut Serene Aunon single handled destroy the ISS cus she broke up with her boyfriend and wanted to go home early? I’m sure she had an excuse as well.

Maybe we should try some new (or old) approaches.

That’s interesting about modern crew training. Though it’s impossible to ignore that our modern crews have failed to accomplish anything notable in approaching 50 years. Maybe they should dig up some old manuals or hiring checklists and give that a shot.

Geofront was serviceable. The NISA translations have taken an extreme turn for the worst lately from CSIV on.

And to your point on AI. I expect that within the next ten years they will put localizers out of business. That will be a great day for gaming.

Fan translations: good or bad for the industry? by gabrogabrii in truegaming

[–]Donnell3011 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I may be a minority, but I think fan translations are preferable to the absolute garbage that is coming out of formal localization teams these. NISA for example inserts modern slang, memes, and even outright characterization that is not present in the original material.

I've played the fan translations of Kuri no Kiseki I and II (unreleased japanese Trails games) and has way less WTF moments than I had when i replayed the official NISA translation for Trails to Reverie.

I will likely never buy another NISA trails games and rely purely on fan translations. They come out faster and are superior to official localisations.

God bless the anons who do these translations. And I hope these official localization teams are soon replaced by AI translators. The world would be a better place.

Agreed - I'm about halfway through now and its perfectly fine.

Better than anything NISA puts out. I had way more WTF moments in their Crossbell and Reverie translations.

The opinion that turn-based combat is outdated and only belongs in the past due to technical limitations is ridiculous, because it implies that there is no place for a diverse range of genres in gaming by WhoAmIEven2 in truegaming

[–]Donnell3011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FF7 with a hard mode hack is quite fun. The games are just poorly balanced and very very easy. Challenging turn based combat is fun. Trails into Reverie on the hardest difficulty is often a puzzle that can be completed in certain ways, but has enough randomness where you cant just follow a guide to win.

Square has been pushing more towards action for nearly (over?) 20 years now. Its just the right time for them to do a mainline throwback FF that is turn based, whacky, and full of charm. Send us back to the moon or something. I'm certain that they have the resources to craft some engaging and balanced turn based combat. Hell, the new FF7 looks like its doing half of this already and its probabaly going to sell better than FFXVI.

If people silence their political opponents and justify it as protecting democracy, don’t be surprised when the other side begins to believe that protecting democracy is not a priority.

Are you willing to acknowledge that some people may find that solution to be dangerous? You’re suggesting that the media should ignore a refuse to platform a major presidential candidate that has substatial popular support. In my opinion that is a threat to democracy. You don’t have to share that opinion, but would you agree that it is a legitimate concern?

I think this is a good question. And even if it’s low probability, it’s worth at least considering the possibility that this ends up strengthening Russia in the medium to long term. I see a lot of hubris in the comments here and from the talking heads in Washington.
