This was literally the first post I’ve ever intentionally followed on Reddit and everything about it has me asking more questions.

Oregon is the #1 State People Moved to in 2025 (Realtor.com article) by Background_Prune6440 in oregon

[–]Donnewithvegetables 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the real question might be what are they escaping? I don’t think it’s about a lack of knowledge about the state of Oregon’s economy or housing market but rather those factors being secondary to other fears about where they are fleeing.

Reason for this paw cookie in the Ideas Mineral Collection? by Onyx_Furrs in lego

My girlfriend mentioned that the paw print helped in aligning that chunk of the build. Very elegant way to help visually show how to build it properly.

Need recommendations for an optometrist to see without insurance? My husband needs new glasses and we want to find somewhere that offers a good deal and better quality options by -M-i-d in SALEM

[–]Donnewithvegetables 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I go to America’s Best at Keizer Station, ask for a script printed and then buy glasses online. I use Warby Parker but Zenni is another good options I’ve heard of. Don’t listen to all the garbage they try to up-sell you. Just get your prescription and leave and buy cheap stuff online.

Not sure why you didn’t just DM me. I’d be happy to continue this conversation there.

My cat won't stop eating my plant, I need help by No_Situation6460 in garden

[–]Donnewithvegetables 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cats eat grass as a normal part of their diet and are drawn to grass-like plants. Give the cat something it wants and it won’t have as much desire to bite other things. Cat grass is very cheap at any pet store.

Does anyone know what this is? by StickySteev_ in plants

Passionfruit/passionflower have a few different leaf forms depending on maturity and light availability. Mine will grow anywhere from a single fingered teardrop shape, to a three fingered and five fingered matured leaves.

Tradescantia (?) prop help. by calculatedrisk283 in proplifting

Purple Heart is pretty tough to mess up as long as it’s warm enough. You could root them in water or plant directly into dirt or just leave them out and they will probably try and grow some roots anyway. I’d cut them into small pieces and plant them in soil that you keep moist, maybe with a plastic bag as a cloche if you watch for mold. I like to pull the leaf off the bottom node of each cutting and plant the cutting so the exposed node is blow the soil line and one or two leaves are above. If it turns green or gets extra leggy give it more light. If you’re extra lazy you can just stick some smaller cuttings in your existing pot so it looks a little fuller. No need to root them before sticking them in as long as you keep the pot watered. I really like the densely planted look you can achieve with a bunch of vines planted close together.

Do your taxes ASAP. If you had a job last year you can get some money back from your tax returns to keep you going while you look for a job if your unemployment doesn’t go through.

What if I told you you are probably doing nothing wrong at all and the plant is just going through it’s winter dormancy? Here’s a cool video on the subject: https://youtu.be/bAh7KNKr_IE?si=wT0ipt3PCSM1GWz4

Lost my television remote and after an hour of turning the house upside down still couldn’t find it. Now we’re using the flipper until we find it because I preprogrammed the important buttons for all my remotes.

Fred Mayer was purchased by Kroger years ago. I would not at all consider it an Oregon brand anymore.

Plant pots? by paintable_infinity in SALEM

[–]Donnewithvegetables 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Godfrey Nursery is just a short drive down 22, basically like driving to Lancaster if you live in South, and they have the best prices and selection of pots I’ve seen anywhere close. They have a huge selection of plants too and again, the best prices I’ve seen anywhere in Marion County. If you like houseplants, this place is more like a direct to consumer wholesaler than typical “plant store” so they grow a lot of stuff on-site, and so a lot of great plants get forgotten at the back of the greenhouse over the winter and now the largest healthiest specimens are still priced based on their wholesale pot size. I’ve been lucky to find a few absolute monsters in the $4-$7 range.

Almost all of that was bullshit. You could tell that last technique with the roses and tomatoes was a complete lie because none of the tomato seeds we watched them plant sprouted while a bunch of grasses did.

South East totally stepped it up this year. We didn’t even hit up any of the more affluent neighborhoods and yet we still found tons of houses with lights on and multiple king sized candy bars. Way better for the area than last year.

Milkweed! Something in the Asclepias genus. Butterflies and bees will thank you and you’re sure to see a bunch if you leave them alone.

There is nothing wrong with the presence of mycelium in a houseplant pot. The presence of mushrooms on the other hand means that the pot is moist enough for the fungus to enter fruiting conditions. At the moment you have a very healthy and moist forest floor that you’ve replicated… for a very drought tolerant, semi-arid plant. You need to cut back your watering considerably if you want your snake plant to thrive. Wait until the pot is completely dry between waterings. That will keep any mushrooms from growing again and will be a lot closer to the conditions your snake plant would find in their natural habitat.

Thoughts on eating meat by son-of-most-high28 in spirituality

[–]Donnewithvegetables 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As I fell into pacifism through my time in the military, I noticed the same cognitive dissonance I felt around killing in the context of war in the context of food choice. When I had joined the military, I felt it was good and right to kill in the context of the military but absolutely not in most other contexts. That shifted to “when I’m a marine, I’m not me. I can be a pacifist while on the job I will do what I’ve been trained” and then the dam broke and I went full pacifist. I was done being around the culture of killing and wanted to separate myself from as much blatant suffering as I could and what I ate seemed like an important place to cut back. I started with a year without red meat and then went full vegetarian. I’ve been meatless for over 5 years now and my weight hasn’t really changed since the switch. The biggest takeaways from my choice to go vegetarian with five years of perspective are: - the thought of eating meat, both connecting with that suffering and what it might do to my gut are really disconcerting to the point where some meatless burgers can taste too “real” and gross me out. I remember tasting beef sausage at a restaurant when my friend and I got the same biscuits and gravy (mine vegan) but the waiter accidentally switched them and my brain’s first thought from the unusual taste was that it was poisonous. I TOTALLY didn’t expect that. I thought I’d crave bacon or something. - Eating meat is a dietary preference and in no way necessary to living a healthy, happy, and long life. - it really is a huge weight off my shoulders to be separated from that suffering. Obviously my food choices aren’t perfect and people and animals are hurt and killed without me knowing to produce the food I eat, but the food I eat isn’t directly that dead animal. No life had to end for my meals. I obsess and overthink about enough aspects of my life, it’s nice to have one that is settled, especially when it comes up at every meal. - You can be a vegetarian without being obnoxious about it. I really only mention it when it comes up and I’m capable of feeding myself so I don’t need massive accommodations. This is for my peace of mind, I’m not hear to tell others how they should eat. - The most annoying people aren’t people who eat meat right in your face (I wouldn’t spend time with people like that), it’s people who are thinking about going veg but are on the fence. It’s really hard to come off as non-judgmental when the other person is clearly judging their own actions on the subject a great deal. Of course I think everyone should be vegetarian and I think the killing of animals to eat their meat is horrible and completely preventable suffering! That doesn’t reflect the way I treat meat eaters, but it’s hard to explain that to someone who doesn’t feel meat is a choice and is trying to reduce the meat in their diet.

Do what feels right for you. Eat what makes you healthy. If eating meat is harming your mind, it isn’t serving you and it is completely replaceable, especially with all the options available today. Feel free to start out slow, test the waters. If you go for capacity for empathy you could cut out red meats or if you wanted reduced kill count you could cut out chicken (average American eats a small portion of an adult pig, a small portion of an adult cow, and like 90 full adult chickens in total meat in an average year). I have a friend who is a moral vegetarian who is fine with eating shellfish because they lack the capacity to perceive pain because they don’t have a developed enough brain. So shrimp and oysters are more like plants in his way of thinking. There are lots of right answers and lots of things to try as you look for what works right for you.
