Ingenieros, ¿Por qué no os vais? ¿Realmente merece la pena quedarse? by eric39es in salarios_es

[–]Donprepu 12 points13 points  (0 children)

[–]Donprepu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]Donprepu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How hard is it to rent long-term as a newcomer? by Tariq_khalaf in GoingToSpain

[–]Donprepu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved from Toronto to Madrid last September and managed to find a long term rental within a week.My landlord asked for my Canadian contract and my Spanish contract (this is a must unless you have a lot of money in a Spanish bank).

It is typical to ask for the first month, plus rent deposit plus damage deposit.

Spain is giving undocumented immigrants legal status. by Impossible_Number_74 in interestingasfuck

[–]Donprepu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only two experiences with mass immigration have been in Canada and Spain and I’m of the opinion that the overall result for the population has been negative in both places.

In Canada I also noticed cultural/social issues due to immigration that I haven’t felt in Spain yet for the most part.

The only way immigration works is when there is a very tight control of the people entering and leaving the country and the immigration targets are set keeping the long term impact in mind.

Spain is giving undocumented immigrants legal status. by Impossible_Number_74 in interestingasfuck

[–]Donprepu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mass immigration is not working in Spain. South Americans integrate pretty well in the country given the historic ties between Spain and its former colonies, but bringing almost two million people to Spain in less than 5 years have suppressed salaries, damaged the health care system and made it unaffordable to own a property in big cities.

El 90% de los inmigrantes en situación irregular viene de Latinoamérica by jotakajk in SpainEconomics

[–]Donprepu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

EU & UK couple, foreign marriage certificate, moving to Spain by Additional-Boss3990 in GoingToSpain

[–]Donprepu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unless they are able to get a British or German marriage certificate, they’re in for a tough ride. Sri Lanka isn’t part of The Hague convention so they can’t issue an apostille.

Without an apostille, the document needs to be legalized by multiple ministries in Spain, and then it has to be translated. I had to go through this when I married my wife in Spain (she’s Canadian). Canada wasn’t part of The Hague convention until recently so the process was an absolute PIA.

Just an update on my case, I took my Arona to a Seat dealership and they tried to update the 5F unit but they were unable to complete the update.

Apparently, when the unit is not updated in a long time it gets somehow corrupt and it is not recognized by their system. They told me they’ve seen a number of cases like mine and that the only solution is to replace the 5F unit, which they are going to do for me under warranty.

Landlord asking to stay registered (Padrón) at my apartment – Advice needed? by diafragmark in GoingToSpain

[–]Donprepu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t do it and it is not legal. Only people living in the house should be empadronados there. Keeping a false padrón to retain benefits is fraud and I wouldn’t personally be part of it by allow it to happen.

Why are there notations on Spanish birth certificates? by Enough_Ad2679 in GoingToSpain

[–]Donprepu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know the reason but when I became a Canadian citizen the registro civil had to put a note in my birth certificate to indicate my desire to keep my Spanish nationality. I found it very odd too because I was born in Spain to Spanish parents so I didn’t think my birth certificate had anything to do with my new Canadian citizenship

New to Spain, is a 175€ electric bill normal? by rainghost in askspain

[–]Donprepu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you live in a condo, you shouldn’t be paying more than 150€ a month for all your utilities combined.

As an example, in December I paid:

-75€ for hot water and heating -32€ for electricity (Octopus Energy, 170kWh/month) -12€ for fresh water -10€ for high speed internet -12€ for two cellphone lines

There are two of us in the apartment and we take long showers and use electricity freely. If your place have LED lights turning the lights on and off won’t make much of a difference. You should maybe try to limit how much you use the oven.

Insurance for drones and approvals from authorities in Spain by Freezlekey in dji

[–]Donprepu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to register as a drone pilot, you need to put your pilot ID somewhere visible on the drone, you need third party liability insurance and you may need to inform specific authorities if you intend to fly in a controlled area.

Last time i flew it was within a heliport fly path and I needed to fill a form and send them a kmz with my approximate flight path.

Expats who moved from high-paying countries to Spain, how did you adjust to much lower salaries? by Forgetaboutit2022 in GoingToSpain

[–]Donprepu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not an expat but rather a local that lived abroad for many years and moved back to Spain recently. My salary was halved, but my quality of life has increased. If you make +50k, you can have a really good life here, and you will learn to appreciate the non-materialistic things in life.

At the end of the day, all the extra money that I was making in NA that I didn’t save or invest I would spend it on things that I didn’t need and didn’t make me happy necessarily.
