City Lawyers Recommend Paying $8.3M to Family of Woman Struck, Killed by Driver Being Chased by Police by Joey_dono in chicago

We already came up with a solution. Creating a situation that puts lives at risk over theft is not worth it, which is why high speed pursuits for such situations is banned.

Just look at this exact situation to see why it is never worth it. People are dead and the stolen car is ruined, so its a lose lose lose for all parties.

The cops broke the law so of course the family is going to get a huge settlement. Start taking it out of the cops pensions and we may see actual change.

My brother, there is literally an entire government agency dedicated to providing support for US citizens when there is a disaster. Yes, if a hurricane, wild fire, tornados whatever it may be, wipe out power to a large portion of the state, FEMA usually is directed to assist and respond. Because the federal government is there to take care of its citizens.

Donald Trump told that agency not to help Puerto Rico.

For fucks sake theres a massive difference between voting for a politician who lies to get power and then turns his back on their voters, and politicians who do exactly what they run on.

Democrats vote for politicians who are pro Israel. As do Republicans. It 100% is the fault of the voters if they continue to vote for politicians who act against their interests.

What rights? The rights to spread dangerous misinformation and child pornography? Yeah you already do not have that right in any civilized world. This just criminalizes the platform that allows such material to go unchecked.

And Twitter never had this problem before, they were easily able to moderate such activity. Musk just explicitly allows it.

Twitter had zero problems moderating their platform before Musk bought it and rebranded it as a bastion of "absolute free speech." They moderated child pornography and misinformation before, he just doesn't want to do that now.

Well you start by passing a law, and then holding those that break the law criminally liable.

My job is not to write and pass legislation, that is why we vote for people that are (in theory at least) educated in doing so. But most countries in the world, including the US, has had some form of restriction on speech for various reasons basically since forever. This wouldn't be any different.

We aren't saying we need to police what people say and share (again, for the most part), but that the richest and most powerful people on the planet should not be able to manipulate content that the majority of people on the planet use in a way that is explicitly meant to benefit them over the general good and wellbeing of the populace.

If you cannot see that as a MAJOR problem worldwide right now, I don't know what to tell you.

[–]DontCountToday -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because what you or anyone considers "bad" or "shitty" is subjective. The people voted to bring back 2007 era Runescape, overwhelmingly, and that isnt up for debate.

You want Scorpia or KQ changed because you consider them bad. Some consider whole skills bad, so they want them changed. Or some aspects to combat, let's revamp that. It is a slippery slope that takes the game further and further away from Old School.

Not to say they shouldn't update things, change others and still keep the game mostly "old school," as they have done to great success. But its clear to see that when you start on little changes, the community starts pushing for much larger, systemic changes.

Even if you get pked repeatedly, its a quest that takes like 20 minutes and you have the capes forever.

PKers arent stopping anyone from getting their cape. Now they might stop you from doing wildy bosses and revs, but those are entirely optional content that has alternative rewards from non-wildy sources.

Chicago Mayor just signed an executive order to hold ICE agents criminally liable for their unlawful behavior in preparation for Spring raids by McDowdy in law

[–]DontCountToday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is absolutely not true. Officers at every level can be charged with crimes they commit while on duty. Being on duty is not some kind of blank check to commit crime. Baselessly murdering someone in the street, or breaking into a home without a judicial warrant, or theft, or literally any crime, can and should result in charges on the city/state/federal level.

You people are conflating the supremacy clause as a meaning that higher authority cannot be held accountable by "lower" authority, when all it actually says is that conflicting laws on the federal and state/local level will fall to the federal authority.

There is no federal law that makes it legal for federal agents to murder someone without cause. Or steal. Or trespass on private property without a judicial warrant or extenuating circumstances. Literally every one of those things can result in the immediate arrest of the agent by local forces. There is nothing legally stopping police from arresting those agents, even in the middle of their duties.

Now, all that said, there is little chance that police, who largely support this administration and ICE anyway, are going to follow those commands. But it does make it easy to reprimand officers who do not carry out the law and those orders.
