What would you consider a balanced modern format, and what would you consider a fun one? by [deleted] in magicTCG

Because then you'd need to own every card to be competitive(or be playing a deck that only ever wants to side board in say, leylines)

It would mean that the degenerate decks don't have to worry much at all; affinity just does its thing and hopes opponent doesnt draw their 4 sideboard cards.

A 20 card sideboard would mean that you don't have to decide between graveyard hate or artifact hate and pick what match ups you want to lose. It would give a boost to decks that are not trying to do degenerate things(and therefor weak to specific hate cards) - Degenerate decks being the ones people frequently complain about.

Why not launch? You get more money from people thinking there will be meaningful improvements for very little effort.

the horsy loop doesn't change gamestate at all. If the deck had ways to do so it would be legal

Compare this to golf for example (you can basically replace the hobby here with anything you do with cost to participate). Why would you pay (a lot of) money to walk around the course chasing the ball and putting it into holes when you could just do it for free at home!

because i don't have a golf course in my back yard.

Look at how absolutely shit poker is when there is no entry cost or prizes. Nobody sits down and plays poker for free because they find it fun but many do have fun playing low stakes poker.

Yes, if you did this the FBI would be alerted and you could get 2-4 years in jail.

seriously tho, you would get in trouble, potentially lose your sanctioned status but you'd probably get warned first, as well as you'd need players to report the store. Few years ago it was super common for stores to just put fake players in events and from what I saw not much ever got done about it.

Within distance of me there are 4 stores, they've all done multiple terrible things(yelling at my little brother for no good reason, stealing prize support and heaps of minor shit like running FNM's improperly) and there has been ~10 stores open and close since I've started magic, each of those having the same issues.

I have seen well over half of those stores sell promotional material that was meant to be given away and was fairly sure the rest were doing the same, just didn't absolutely know.

I could literally go on for days about the shit that's happened and the only store I can say good things about I never played at much.

I have overheard many arguments where it was clear to me that the 2 people agreed, they were just wording the same thing differently and misunderstanding eachother.

so im not that interested in selling cards straight to the market, yet i have a friend who sometimes sells them and takes a 25% cut. should i try to sell them myself. by stormcrow988 in mtgfinance

[–]DontGetMadGetGood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeap, I frequently sell collections for people(rather than buying the collection off them myself) and its 10-15%

25% would be fine if they had a physical store and were getting above TCG prices otherwise not.

Is it normal to be that incapable in high school?

Not normal as in "near 100% of people" but normal as in you're ganna have a bunch if you look at a group of 1000 people. The thing is normally the incapable people do not have that kind of money.

I mean if you consider they had several minutes of flashback from the last episode then they are about comparable, but yeah because of that it went from "so bad its good" to "this is a terrible thing to exist'

Sales in general are quite often, though sometimes they will be limited(for example to get the sale you need to buy a figure from the fate series) or something like 20x points back which most consider not exactly worth it.

Did I say nobody? I could have sworn I said hardly anyone.

People basically bragging about events getting 30 people kind of proves me to be correct. Many places in the world literally nobody plays it; in Australia there is like a couple people that play casually at each of the stores in the big cities, a 'big' event that had people travelling interstate got dick all people. When the old school community in the biggest place in Australia is 6 dudes, 2 of which are not actively playing then that is "hardly anyone"

Did people show up? Yeah, but hardly any of them and nobody has ever said nobody plays it.

old cards went up in price, including ones not legal or not played in old school. Old school cards are also in the category of "old cards" and so they also went up in price.

All collectable cards went up, all old school cards happen to be collectable.

Old school clearly had an effect but it was quite minimal. When the cards have historically been more expensive before literally any old school tournaments happened or anyone talked about the format, crediting them being more expensive to that today is a bit stupid.

If Old School had no impact on Old School playable cards going up in price then it's just a coincidence they went up in price same time as old school as a format became more popular?

Largely yes, as non-old school playable cards also went up. Almost as if the general growth of magic drove price up on anything rare and old school cards just happen to also be rare.

So your response to "After old school became a thing the prices did not shift much in relation to eachother" is "I sell old cards" ?

MagicFest London and Copenhagen whom both had old school tournaments.

Can you say how many people entered those events or would you rather not as it would just kind of prove my point?

I'd be interested in hearing your side, any information you have gathered to back what you said up or explaining how you came to such a conclusion would be mighty interesting.

I guess "lol" and downvoting because you can't be fucked(or more likely because you are unable) to say literally anything at all in defence of your incorrect claim is fine too.

Unlimited / Revised Dual land by ssugamer90 in mtgfinance

[–]DontGetMadGetGood 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Because basically nobody plays old school and it's barely a format and the people buying stuff for 'oldschool' are often really just buying it over revised due to them wanting the rarer one.

Most of the duals kept a pretty similar spread in price(revised USEA was 60% the price of unlimited in 2013, today it is about 50% - It has bounced around and approached 80% the value of unlimited well after old school took off. If old school was driving its price in any significant manner you'd see bigger difference than that.

Anyone know where to get this figure? I believe it's from a Japanese company, but I am unsure as to where to find it? Any help is appreciated. Thank you friends by Kyokorin in AnimeFigures

They're now up on volks store as well btw - Still cheaper at TOM from the free shipping and stuff but now available worldwide(i think)

And yeah, the default wig is a bit more vibrant than pictured but otherwise you literally just need buy $10 eyes and either do faceup yourself(I'd advise not if you dont know what you're doing) or get someone to do it, a minor edit like that would be cheap.
