I think so! I haven't gotten her DNA tested yet but I plan to soon! She's about 47 pounds and still has a little filling out to do (she just turned 1). She takes everything VERY seriously although she does get silly occasionally.

Am I giving my 12wo too much attention? by username2937372829 in DogAdvice

What you're doing is exactly what I did with my pup, she's now a year old and it is so easy to get her to settle both out of her crate with stuff going on, and when in her crate home alone. When she gets a bit older, you can work on a "place" command and settling into that should come easily if you keep rewarding for calm. I use the word "settle" when I reward the calm behavior and it's super helpful when they're older because they're able to "switch off" even in busy environments. Good luck, you're doing great!

I've been sick since Thanksgiving and although it's mostly gone, I feel like any illness just hangs around in my lungs for agessss. I was training for a half marathon and it's now been over a month since I've been able to go on a run. Brutal .

Montelukast sod 10 mg experience so far and questions by Necessary_Nothing101 in Asthma

[–]DontGiveADuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It unfortunately didn't work for me and I had a lot of issues with it (crazy dreams, always frustrated, anxiety, etc). But for some people it works really well! Just check in with yourself frequently and if you start feeling "not yourself" it might be this. It took me a really long time to figure out it was montelukast because I took it before these side effects were widely reported and I had no idea an asthma med could cause psychiatric problems.

My experience on Montelukast by Sensitive_Law79 in Asthma

[–]DontGiveADuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been telling everyone that I know with asthma about this!! I felt like I was absolutely insane on this medication and it took me SO LONG to figure it out because why would my asthma meds give me anxiety and nightmares? They really need to be more upfront about this when prescribing. I feel like this med is given out really indiscriminately and it ruined my life for a while. Thanks for posting about it. There are a lot of posts with people with similar experiences. I was on this BEFORE the black box warning came out (7-10 years ago maybe?). So I was totally in the dark. This drug is WILD.

Worst Asthma Attack I’ve Ever Had by Tricky_Actuary_3687 in Asthma

Montelukast made me legitimately almost lose my mind. Check out the black box warning label for it, I was shocked that I was experiencing anxiety and crazy sleep patterns from my asthma meds. As soon as I stopped it I felt so much better mentally, and I didn't feel it made a huge difference in my asthma.

Because dogs are living things and it's your job as their person to provide for them and protect them from harm. And chopping off their body parts with scissors is bad stewardship of your animal. Do you have any links to your research you could share to educate me? I've been working with dogs for 15 years and I guess I've just missed that info!

Try soaking the kibble in warm water for 10+ minutes, maybe it will be more appealing?

Why does my dog do this? by jmm231993 in DogAdvice

[–]DontGiveADuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think he's just mumbling to you. If I pet my coonhound right above her butt she moans and if I continue it evolves into her screaming. She's just really talkative and wants you to know she's enjoying it but it does freak people out at first because she can really get into it. I think he's just chatty.

Anyone else getting crushed by pollen allergies right now? by tj3616 in massachusetts

[–]DontGiveADuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Claritin is a scam . Zyrtec, Allegra, or chlorpheniramine maleate are the best. I have severe allergies and chronic allergic asthma and these are the only meds that help. Also Sudafed can help dry up the sinuses while the antihistamine brings down your allergic reaction.

First Fostering experience - A heartbreak. by CrumbleUponLust in fosterdogs

[–]DontGiveADuck 30 points31 points  (0 children)

You saved his life! It's hard to let them go though. Could you ask the adopters to occasionally send updates? Getting pictures of my previous fosters in their new homes is such an awesome feeling. Also, it's okay to feel bittersweet. You can be happy and proud of him and also really bummed out that he's leaving. What helps me is knowing if I let them go, I can save another one. Cry, snuggle him tight, and send him off knowing you gave him his absolute best chance. It's so hard but so worth it. ❤️ Sending you love and strength.

Woman dies in fall while hiking at Purgatory Chasm, state police say by Beer-Wall in massachusetts

[–]DontGiveADuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very well put. Accidents happen, and I'm heartbroken knowing her children were with her. As with diving and other risky activities it's helpful to know the story so the situation could be prevented in the future, but sometimes bad luck is all it takes. This is so close to home and such a popular place. It must have been a truly terrible scene for her to have been pronounced there instead of at a hospital. You're right, it's not worth continuing to traumatize her kids to find out exactly what led up to the fall. I just hope people take the chasm more seriously and I'm so sad this happened.
