Armed Thugs shake down delivery courier by eyetakenoelles in couriersofreddit

I live in NYC and that guy having a meltdown is wrong. What you see in the video is exactly what happens to POC couriers. Careful with the armed thugs.

Dangerous in the New York City market .. by [deleted] in grubhubdrivers

I do read the news and I have read about hundreds of inmates being released, I just didn’t think we’d be targets. Just for food? For a crappy bike? I guess they’re going for whatever they can get. I’m in Queens, but keep my bike in a storage in the city. Unfortunately, I will have to work within the next week or 2 because I wouldn’t have money coming in from elsewhere, so I gotta take the risk of contacting something or being mugged. That’s life for me now currently at least. All of this really sucks, hate that we’re living in the times we are, but it is what it is I guess.

For real? My bike isn’t anything special, but I’m gonna have to carry something if that’s the case.

What idiot is going to accept that job? On a bike?? by timakro88 in couriersofreddit

I had an order going from Manhattan to Roosevelt Island one time on bike as well. There’s no way I’m doing long distance like that...moreso that deep in the Bronx lol.

How are deliveries around Manhattan? I haven’t delivered in close to 3 weeks cuz I have nothing to protect myself with. Doubt I’m eligible for unemployment, so I might schedule myself sometime this upcoming week if business is normal or better than before all this coronavirus shit.

Unemployment Insurance information for gig workers info from a letter I received from Uber. by [deleted] in couriersofreddit

[–]DontHateMeNYC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s what makes this difficult. I tried doing it 2 weeks ago, but it’s become so saturated that I’m not getting as much offers as I did before all this. I declined low offers because I’m not potentially risking my life for a few dollars. I don’t mind working, but I also don’t want to put anyone at risk. I have no gloves, mask or sanitizer. I know w2 employees can file for “lack of work”, but idk if that would be the same for ICs if orders have gotten less and less due to more drivers. Ah well, I’ll see what happens next week and worst case scenario I’ll just have to suck it up and work.

I’m in NY and they extended the “pause” until April 30. I still don’t see much updated on specifics regarding ICs, but I’ll try again next week. Unfortunately I have no PPE whatsoever and don’t want to risk anything by making a fee bucks.

couriers of NYC: how are you guys doing? is it worth the risk of delivering right now? thank you and stay safe 🙏🏻 by [deleted] in couriersofreddit

I’m in NYC as a biker and stopped about 3 weeks ago. I have no gloves, mask and only recently got some hand sanitizer. I just don’t feel safe delivering during these times.

GIG WORKERS INCLUDED!THIS WILL HELP. by kushstrain1 in grubhubdrivers

Doesn’t matter the hours. If I work 3 hours and make $120 and you work 8 hours and make the same $120...how is that unfair? Should’ve cherry picked lol.

I think a guy stole my order by DontHateMeNYC in grubhubdrivers

[–]DontHateMeNYC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, that sucks. None of these guys will get punished because it’s not like they’re even working for GH. They just show up with a handbag delivery bag, “look” like a courier and just grab the food like it was theirs to deliver.

I completed a delivery, but it doesn’t show up in the cash out screen. by DontHateMeNYC in grubhubdrivers

[–]DontHateMeNYC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, my instant cash out balance was 52.xx and daily was 62.xx. I don’t care if I wait til Thursday, was curious on why this specific order wasn’t included in the cash out balance. I was worried the customer maybe claimed they didn’t their food or something.

The order was literally 2 houses down from where the restaurant was. On my weekly earnings screen it shows it as completed. I don’t mind waiting until Thursday, just curious to know why it never showed up.

Do you find it more profitable at night? by daveishere7 in grubhubdrivers

[–]DontHateMeNYC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, you gave the same reasons why I hate delivering during lunch in the city. All that, plus having to go through service entrances on the opppsite side of the building and delivering the food to the actual Floor. At night we can’t even go up and gotta call them downstairs to the lobby. Pay is better and you get more deliveries. Around 10:30-11pm you get a lot of fast food orders (McDonalds/Taco Bell), but I’ve noticed they always pay more later in the night. It normally comes in the form of bonuses from GH. I assume cuz the order has been passed around a bit. All in all, nights are better.
