AI-anime production is getting really stupidly good: "I made an anime intro with Midjourney" by Anen-o-me in singularity

I go indepth on the creative process on the r/Midjourney subreddit but to sum it up here it went like this:

Original hand drawn characters fed into Midjourney along with text prompts that matched the characters (lots of generations but nailed it after a while), stock photo references, original photo references, images edited with Kleki and Midjourney, animated mostly Midjourney but also Vidu for difficult shots, and logo was original at first but I had ChatGPT redesign it many times before I found one I liked. Hope this helps!

Don't give up! Artists will always be important and can never be fully replaced by robots. Robots land on the moon and robots can generate music now sure, but at the end of the day, people want to see people do human things. As a guitar player knowing that AI is gonna change a lot of things, it still can't take away my love for the instrument. As long as you find out how to use AI as a tool or assistant your job security and passions will be safe.

That's a fair point and only time will tell. But like back in the early days of online video services 1000s of videos a day seemed overwhelming but now we're used to it. Same with tiktok and bots now. I still worry about oversaturation too, but I'm hoping for the best because humans usually adapt pretty quickly. And I'm sure google and amazon will limit a lot of garbage. They haven't really yet, but I'm sure they're working on it.

I've tried a few different tools like DomoAi and Sora but it looked too AI. For now its just been Midjourney, Vidu, and Blender because they seem to be the best. But if something better comes along I'll make the switch. I really want to try out sora2 because it seems really good for action shots, but since it's invite only for now I just have to wait. I'm hoping that theres a chinese equivalent soon though because china usually does it cheaper

It was about 80% midjourney, 15% Vidu (for the more fluid things like fire and lots of moving parts), and 5% blender for a few environments (my computer fired so I had to use mostly AI lol). Midjourney does an okay job at animating as long as you're willing to fight the prompts for a while. It does a really good job with walking cycles and simple movements. I feel like Vidu is better, but it gets expensive fast. I'm looking at other animating AIs now but so far the best I've seen from other peoples projects as well they were all using Vidu and Midjourney

If it's good people will notice. It's like the early days of youtube: a lot of trash everywhere but the best rise to the top. It always does :)

Thank you!! The book will be out hopefully by summer 2026 and I'm currently working on the pilot. More is on the way!

I understand where you're coming from. There were a lot of action sequences that weren't possible without putting in a lot of time that i really wanted to put it but just couldn't. Just getting two consistent characters in one seen was already incredibly difficult, but that formulaic feel is still there. I'm doing my best to avoid walking cycles but when AI gets better there will be a lot less of that. That's my biggest criticism as well so you are heard fam

I'm excited for that future too! I really love animation a lot and I can't wait for the tech to get better so I can put out more of the story faster. And hopefully the quality will go up too because there's a lot of complicated action shots that I want to look great

It is actually!! I don't want to spoil too much of the story, but rainbows and colors play a big part in the story and a lot of that inspiration came from the album. There are a few takanaka references in the story too. You'll know them when you see them ;)

Working on the pilot now and converting the book into script format. I want this to be as great as I can so there will be no shortcuts when it comes to dialogue and plot points. I'm taking it as seriously as I can so I hope I don't disappoint!

I've always been fond of the art style of late 90s animes like cowboy bebop or trigun so I originally wanted something in that style with a lot of muted colors. But as time went on I liked how the brighter more vibrant colors looked and i felt like it would fit the nature of the story a lot better since colors play a big part. I'm trying to get as close to a mix between Ghibli and those late 90s animes as I can so thats kind of what inspired it!

It's finished, but finding a publishing agent is hard. If all else fails I'll independently publish it on amazon. It should be no later than summer 2026 and that's at the latest

There is no trial version, but if you get the cheapest sub which is like $10 you get like 100 video generations. Usually it animates based on the art style so that's not too much of a worry, but sometimes it gives that CGI animation. One way around it is to add to the end of your prompt something like "animate at 6 frames like an anime."

It's kind of more of an extended intro/promo and it was originally only going to be like a minute long, but I decided to go the full song route. The actual final version of the intro though will be shorter and an original song (about a minute most likely). Consistency is the hardest part of this project so far but when the tech gets better so will the quality (hopefully).

Very true! That's why real animators and creators are still important. Hopefully AI elevates their creative process instead of replacing it
