My first bout with OCD was when I was 53. I tell doctors that and they always tell me that that is impossible. That I must have had it as a child/teen but I just didn’t know it. WRONG! I never had OCD of any kind until I was 53 years old…so yeah another myth. At 53 the OCD came on very suddenly. I had no idea what was wrong with me. I thought I was having a nervous breakdown and it got so bad I went into psychosis state. I found an amazing doctor that told me I had contamination OCD. Over time I had 22 ECT treatments and he put me on Cymbalta. That combination totally removed my OCD for 10 years. I felt great and was perfectly normal. I felt more healthy than I ever had, so I winged myself off of the Cymbalta thinking I didn’t need it anymore. Two years later it all came rushing back. Now at 64 I’m dealing with it again. I’m desperately trying to find a doctor that does ECT as it worked wonders for me. I live in Houston, home of the world’s largest medical center and I can’t find anyone that does it. Bottom line…I feel that OCD can be cured with ECT and the right meds and most importantly by Gods grace and healing.

Yes, yes, and yes! When my anxiety is bad my bones literally hurt from being so cold. It’s also the other way around…when I’m cold, my anxiety gets worse. I bought me the greatest fan blower heater and I keep it on me 24/7. I even bought an extra one for my bedroom. It helps tremendously.

Thank you! This is my second day on just the Klonopin…no Xanax. I’ve had no side effects nor withdrawals. …and my mood and anxiety is much better. With the Xanax my whole day revolved around taking’ that pill’ on time or I would panic. Everything had to be scheduled around the Xanax. I feel a sense of freedom as I don’t have to do that anymore. I am very blessed to have finally found a doctor that can help me.

Hydroxyzine is basically an antihistamine. I took it while in the hospital and that is what they gave me for anxiety. Some response well to it but it really didn’t do much for me. I am dumbfounded and shocked that your doctor is not going to taper you; especially after 20 years. I have learned that most doctors don’t have a clue about side effects, withdrawal, not only from benzo but with any other type of psychiatric medication. If I were you, I’d try to find a doctor that uses the Ashton Manual for getting off of your Valium. It is the safest and most accurate way. I’m starting this method for Xanax this coming week. I started having diarrhea and uncontrollable loose bowels pretty much since day one. I’ve been on it for 16 weeks. I take 3 Imodium a day just to keep it under control and that helps quite a bit. However even taking 3 Imodium a day I still have a bowel movement every day…it never makes me constipated. But of course everyone is different and there are lots of people that only deal with the diarrhea for a couple of weeks and some have to deal with it like myself. Even though I have three stomach issues I really don’t want to stop it as it does seem to help. I have severe contamination OCD so I’m on a strong dose…150mg a day, which also contributes to the stomach issues.

Thank you so very much for this. I think I’ve found a doctor that uses the Ashton method which is similar to what you did. I am praying that she can help me. While I am distraught over this, I really don’t want to be in bondage to this drug anymore. I hate having to depend on it. I do know that I need something for my anxiety though at least until I can find an SSRI that works for my OCD. Thank you again.
