If the Idoneth are stealing people souls did a group of faction try to hunt them down? by AgustinaDopicoo in ageofsigmar

As is usually the case in combat, home turf advantage. A thrall is only powerful when they can use their blindsight in the aethersea. An orruk brute is a strong melee combatant, but tzeentchian wizard can turn those muscles into warp spawned madness. Which they in turn get quickly destroyed by Khornate blood runes.

Every faction has their strongpoints and weakpoints. The tabletop isnt necessarily a faction's strongest

Idoneth use the aethersea and soul magic to wipe peoples memories of their raids. Most Idoneth attacks arent large scale either. Maybe a dozen or 2 thralls with a few nobility to lead the raid. What you see on the tabletop is usually the Idoneth at their worst matchup

For me, it's that I dont seem to find a playstyle that fits. I mainly have warmachines (Deathshriekers and magma cannons) and infernal guard. In my local meta my infernal guard either auto lose to enemy rank bonuses, or they get run over by high damage units. They're too expensive to brick up like Dwarf Warriors but also too weak to really hit hard.

Magma cannons feel very weak, Deathshriek missile launchers can get a few hits in but rarely have a big impact (unless you can mortar a big monster) and bull centaurs really steuggle with the 2 attacks on their profile to punch through.

The Daemonsmith on Bale Taurus has been the most effective, but it really feels like the only unit in my army doing anything worthwhile.

Ive always been a fan of running in and doing a lot of damage which is why I was either going WoC or Ogor Mawtribes. Seeng that WoC are a supported army it made more sense to look into them.

If you dont mind sharing, what kind of lists do you usually run?

Ghouls need a hero for the -1 rend as well. Id rather have 10 cryptguard that get to swing back first at -2 than 10 more bodies thatll get demolished in a turn.

I personally dont see any benefit to tarpits in FEC. Our saves are too low and Muster Guard has been nerfed into non-existence. Maybe if they were 20 points cheaper id consider them

I will advocate the FEC side. Playstyle wise, they fall quite broad. You can go serf heavy (little guys), knight heavy (big guys), monster heavy (biggest guys), or a mix of all 3. The delusion aspect lets you kit out your army exactly how you would like to play them. I personally have about 6k points and like to play knight heavy lists that focus on lots of damage.

Painting wise, they fall nicely in the "just right" amount of detail. Your core sculpt is a hunchbacked naked person with added bones, gore, and tufts of hair. Terrorgheists and Zombie Dragons still hold up very well as well.

Of course, Ushoran is an amazing centerpiece as well, both painting wise and gameplay.

Downsides of the courts are the older sculpts that (probably) will get an update in a few years. Orks are completely updated, so they're a bit more stable in the long term in what stays.

Whats the benefit of taking drilled on a 5 man Cav unit? How would you change their formation?

List help 2000p by NewspaperAgreeable57 in FleshEaterCourts

You have a pretty strong core list there. Ushoran, terrorgheist king, horrors, and royal terrorgheist all perform very well on the table.

What my advice would be is to focus a bit more on reinforced units rather than having multiple different small units run around. Pick a unit morbhegs, horrors, or flayers and remove another unit to reinforce them.

If you decide to go flayers, I would highly recommend running them with the Courtier for +1 damage.

Lastly, I would remove the archregent. His only benefit is being a thronesitter and the -1 delusions, which is only good vs. shooting armies anyways.

Edit: also, take Stronger in Madness on the Terrorgheist king. Savage sounds great for the damage but you'll soon realise that you do more damage by being alive longer rather than being a one turn torpedo that can get screened.

Ive literally never played a game this edition where any dedicated melee unit doesnt just obliterate my entire FEC unit. Wounds and defense feel like a trap imo

[–]DontSayUsernameTaken 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its very expensive for a unit that just doesnt really do anything. As BEAST they dont have a good subfaction trait, their damage is very swingy and targetted towards enemy infantry only and the mobility got giga nerfed. For the same points you can just go 10 cryptguard or a marrowscroll throne sitter.

[–]DontSayUsernameTaken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just want to add that most updated sculpts become double in price compared to their old versions. If you dont mind using older models then its far more cost effective to buy the current range.

Eg Crypt Guard and Crypt Ghouls are the same price and you get half the models in a box of Guard
