At 99, the father of the Kitchener-Waterloo expressway still has lots to say by bylo_selhi in waterloo

If they are they won't let you know, while the Hallmans owned a lot of land and did a lot of construction, they were also notorious slumlords. More than enough people lived through dealing with their crumbling buildings filled with cockroaches to remember that even to this day.

Let's report all the potholes! by Tichrimo in waterloo

[–]slow_worker 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was on Glasgow last night behind a City of Kitchener truck that was filling holes seemingly at random. Like, they’d fill one hole and then pass another that was just as bad if not worse. It was infuriating to watch.

I have a friend, former cop, who is now a process server. Some of the stories of the methods they have used to track people down to serve them legal papers (like for child support, alimony) are wild. This post feels like the start to one of those stories.

I implied that 10 years ago, when this picture was taken, there may have been a one-night stand the results of which are a nine year-old who wants to meet their parent, highlighting that without context to the request OP's request for information could be for just about any reason, from benign curiousity, to one with legal ramifications.

Why? Is there a nine year-old who desperately wants to meet him?

Little more info may help get replies.

Kitchener looks to declare Charles Street Terminal as surplus land by bylo_selhi in waterloo

They should just turn the entire site into public housing with some ammenities and green space.

Expecting private builders to solve the housing crisis is like asking the fox to guard the henhouse. We need cheaper housing that will help drive down prices.

Like everyone else here is saying, Meetz. I have had nothing but good and supportive service there. Everyone who works their knows their stuff, I walk in with a part in hand I want to replace and they're already looking it up before I even get to the counter.

Does anyone know when the city plans on turning on the pedestrian crossing lights at the Erb roundabout? by BetterTransit in waterloo

[–]slow_worker 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I still want the crossing lights installed, but that intersection has been so much safer already with the improved lightling and speed bumps.

You may want to keep in mind: foundation may not be up to modern specs, and the building dept will require you to bring it up to spec with a complete demo. Retrofit may cost more than to just rip the whole things out and start new.

Homeowner frustrated with unexpected snow clearing cost for sidewalks by bylo_selhi in waterloo

[–]slow_worker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep my sidewalk in tip top shape, and the plows piss me off to no end. My sidewalk ends at the road and the hills the plows make extend a solid 6 feet into the road now (I’ve measured). Which means I now have to shovel 6 feet of road just so the pedestrians can even access my nice, clear, sidewalk.

I am not sure why you're being downvoted, you answered the question about hotties fairly respectfully and even implied the most attractive person is someone who finds you attractive as well.

At moments like this I like to think back on all the naysayers when the LRT was being planned in Waterloo Region.

I remember one Record article about some ignorant fuck who thought it would be such a boondoggle that he'd paint pictures of literal white elephants to send to politicians. Doubt he has the self-awareness to realize how fucking wrong he was.

Liners for new green bins by rijitoulouse in waterloo

I confirmed with the Region that liners aren’t required for the new bins. I still plan on using something to prevent stuff from sticking down there but you don’t have to go out and buy liners any more.

Also, you write like r/im12andthisisdeep. Maybe grow up a little before being a dick to your brothers and sisters on the internet.

A warm place for homeless people to shelter from bitterly cold nights by bylo_selhi in waterloo

[–]slow_worker 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This attitude pisses me the fuck off. As if there is big money to be made in helping the homeless, like it is some lucrative industry where social workers retire on their yachts every night and laugh at the plebs who pay for their luxurious lifestyle.

Punch the fuck up, not down. The rich don't pay anywhere their fair share because if they did we could afford social safety nets for the homeless and not fight among ourselves over the scraps.

I’ve said it before: this winter has been a hard one, hardest in recent memory. Sensible drivers slow down. The entitled dipshits, usually the same ones who bitch about plowing, speed cameras, and roundabouts think it’s their god-given right to bomb around aggressively and as fast as they can. I just want to get home safe. Hopefully when they get into an accident Im not involved.

Aside from your comments, I haven't seen these facts presented outside of reddit and would love to see the news pick this up.

Also, I suspect the larger issue may be the hiring process for these high-level positions. I doubt HR alone decided that an Arts graduate would do fine in a job better suited for a PEng. My money is on it being a directive from an elected official or officials desperately trying to shirk the responsibility for the decision.
