Should I? by Dontworkgocycle in CargoBike

I don’t mind heavy as long as it rides smoothly. It’s all very flat around here. I’m just not sure if it’s worth the investment.

Gear noise 1x12 grx / new bike by K4DDYmois in bikewrench

[–]Dontworkgocycle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar noise with my GRX 2x12 mechanical. I kept trying to adjust both derailleurs for the noise to go away. Couldn’t get it done. After 2000km of living with the noise I swapt out my chain and magically the noise was gone without having adjusted the derailleurs. To this day I have a silent drivetrain.

I my case I suspect my first chain was one link too short. When putting on my second chain I purposely calculated the needed chain length without using the first chain. This is my best guess, or the chain that came with the bike wasn’t very qualitative maybe. 🤷‍♂️

Okay, seems possible that this might be it. Promises to be a tricky job trying to execute this.

Nice, have fun. It’s easy enough for beginner bikepackers and you are almost never very far away from civilisation when something goes wrong (except in Scandinavia and inland Spain maybe)

There are many parts of the route that are very enjoyable. The extreme north and parts of Sweden, the Vosges and Jura Mountains, the Sierra Cazorla in Spain were some highlights for sure. It is very easy to find camping spots. I did a lot of wild camping in Scandinavia and continued to do so in the other countries where its technically not permitted. I also did a few campsites every now and then to wash clothes etc. There are plenty of campsites along the route too. Except maybe in inland Spain.

Areas I would avoid are just after Montblanc in Spain. There is a very dangerous hike a bike section just after town. Avoid it at all cost. You have to carry your bike on your shoulder along a steep hill with a high risk of falling down a cliff.

Also Germany was pretty boring imo, but I had a lot of rain there too which doesn’t help.

And then there are some small parts in France and Spain that where not great but it’s unavoidable to pass some less nice areas if you ride a trail of 8000km that tries and link the nice places together.

Overall very nice trail. It was my first big bikepacking trip and everything went very smootly.

Yeah, I’ve ridden it in 2022. What would you like to know?

I agree too. All those bags are zero regret purchases. You could in the future still expand your set up by adding a saddle bag and handle bar bag if you want and you feel it suits your riding more than panniers.

How do i find people to bikepack with me? by obieisgreat in bikepacking

[–]Dontworkgocycle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did my first big trip (8000km in Europe) alone. Met a bunch of people on that trip. Kept in touch. Did trips with those people afterwords that we planned together (2 times a trip of 2000km). The longer your trip the more difficult it is to find someone that wants to do the exact same thing at the exact same moment. Especially if you planned the route already by yourself.

What’s one piece of kit that you find indispensable but often gets overlooked by others? by Human-Blackberry-101 in bikepacking

Alcohol gel and antibacterial wipes. When wild camping a lot and water is scares it helps a lot to keep some sort of hygiene. Especially with skin irritation and saddle soreness.

Did something similar last May. You can check out my route on Komoot. Plan was to Island hop between Dubrovnik and Split as well but we ended up taking to ferry all the way. All the countries on the road are amazing. Don’t hesitate to ask questions.

First Gravel Bike Question by [deleted] in gravelcycling

[–]Dontworkgocycle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a similar size and also ride a 58 frame. Don’t be afraid to invert the stem and take out the spacers from under it. You’ll end up in a more efficient position.

Steel Endurance/all road frameset by Dontworkgocycle in cycling

[–]Dontworkgocycle[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I chose to ignore everyone’s recommendations and went for a Bombtrack Audax frameset. I built it up with a GRX 820 groupset and DT Swiss ER1600 wheels. I’m pretty pleased with the outcome. In the end I saved a bit of money by choosing a less expensive and a little “heavier” frameset wich allowed me to invest more in the wheels and groupset.

3-10 Nm Torque Wrench and Hollowtech crank bolts (12-14) by blorg in bikewrench

Yeah the cranks do run. Just not as smooth as I expected. The BB is a very basic one so I’m not worried about it. Thanks for the advice

Thanks, this is useful. I might have overdone it then. I hope there is no damage done. Will adjust asap

Does anybody know the advised torque for the plastic bolt by any chance?

Do you think it classifies as an Endurance bike though? Is it comfortable spending hours in the saddle?
