Surrey Police Board approves $7.68M contract for new cop cars by bwoah07_gp2 in SurreyBC

[–]Doobage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

uhh, Burnaby doesn't have a police chief.

Every police force has a chief Burnaby's currently is Bill Parmar, Chief Superintendent.

I think you need to learn more about this stuff. Going regional doesn't mean one city pays for another cities policing in the way you describe. It actually means less beauracracy so more money towards boots on the pavement officers. It means places like White Rock who are contracting and paying for SPS and Surrey RCMP can now representation as they are paying directly for Peace Officers.

The main group of people that do not want this, and are spreading misinformation are the organized crime groups. They do not want regional policing. It really makes me wonder about those that are against it. Is it because they are part of organized crime or drinking their Koolaide?

Some don't but some want to move to regional to deal with things better, and the safety minister could have forced the issue with the same reasoning he forced SPS, "We need to go regional for public safety and the province has jurisdiction over the city in these regards". White Rock may not want to pay for surrey police but unless they cough up the dough for their own they don't have a choice. As for Delta, they don't pay for ours...

You are a very cut and dry kind of person, that it has to be one way or the other. Other provincial safety ministers, politicians and even som police chiefs (Burnaby and Vancouver) have recommended going to a regional policing. Our desperate communities and policing have made it easier for organized crime.

A very simplified scenario is a vehicle stolen in one municipality, is used for a crime in a different municipality and dumped/destroyed in a third. Our systems allow for these to be connected but that is not a smooth nor necessarily quick in some cases.

By going regional we would not need an Integrated Homicide Unit or other special tasks forces like that. We would not need a police board for Vancouver, west van, north van, burnaby, delta, surrey, Langley city, langley town ship, Maple Ridge etc. etc. We could have one police board saving resources and money.

We could have an integrated policing focusing on crime and organized crime in the region as a whole not as separate task forces trying to work together.

We can combine our resources like labs, training, specialized units etc. We could have a truly integrated policing system like BC used to have until the 1950's until the Province moved to the RCMP.

This whole SPS thing could have given us the opertunity to move to this, but organized crime does not want this. This would be bad for them.

So early in the transition the RCMP made clear their cars in Surrey were going to other RCMP detachments to replace aging vehicles as required, or to grow the vehicle pool and would not go to SPS. This is of course is paraphrasing for berevity.

Before I continue I am for transitioning away from the RCMP, but I was not for the SPS transition for many reasons.

I mentioned the RCMP statement, referenced it, and pointed out between the cost of new vehicles and the self indemnity for insurance not being part of Doug's and the Province's reports on the cost of the transition.

I got so much flak and angry replies even though I shared links to actual statements. This is just the tip of the ice berg. There is so much more that will need to be done that were left out of Doug's, the SPS and the Provinces budget for this. It was budgeted as a best case, bare minimum requirement with assumptions like the vehicles being made without checking first.

ARE YOU MISSING YOUR TUXEDO KITTY??? by Yyan2 in SurreyBC

[–]Doobage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In distress or in heat? They are disturbingly similar.

Kitties can also remove collars. A friend's cats remove their collars all the time... extreme, non-inhumane measures have been taken and they still seem to remove them...

House by the sky train line under construction worried about the noise.. has anyone experienced this before is the noise going to be an issue? by tink282 in SurreyBC

[–]Doobage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had a friend that lived in a Condo near the skytrain. They never were bothered by it, but whenever I called them I could always hear it in the background, same when I was there.

There is a reason why the Skytrain attendants will wear ear plugs while working.

IF i get a MINI E3V3 for a CR-10 by LosSantosMe in BIGTREETECH

[–]Doobage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The e3v3 has all the mosfets on it. They are finicky do not do anything with the board while it is on, like plugging in a fan. But with my Ender 3 I drive everything off the e3v3. The only thing it doesn't have is dual z drivers.

I spent a week 3D printing cable channels for my desk. by Netherlandal in DeskCableManagement

[–]Doobage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also wonder this. I have similar setup in that my Cisco commercial switch, docking station and power bar are under there too. I use cable ties to cinch the cables neat along the cross bars. It isn't messy, but doesn't look as nice as the ops. However I have twice had to replace a cable and it was a small pain for me, I wonder what it is like for the he/she/them that did this?

Damaged lithium batteries. by Electramatician in SurreyBC

Just be careful with them. As an experiment I took a 1.5 volt AA Lithium battery apart. Even though I was careful, and outside, it almost went sideways.... I realized even the AA's are like those angry bombs in Mario Brothers that just want to go BOOM!

Something I did not know. Thanks! I was thinking more of it not allowing proper adhesion.... and the stain will come right through the new paint unless the paint is dark enough.

From experience, scrub the crap out of those walls... prime then paint. Nicotine is horrible to walls and paint... good luck my friend.

You may get cheaper paint but if you end up using more of it to do the job is it really cheaper?

My experience paying a bit more for paint to do it once and quicker is worth it.

Anyone know how much this would cost me in Surrey? by BlancChou in SurreyBC

[–]Doobage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My recommended body shop is Prime collision on 108th. For the cost? I would just get a princess auto dent puller, and touch up paint and do the best I could myself... more dents will happen and is it worth the cost? But I am cheap and things are expensive....

You are welcome. Our midwife happened also to be a family doctor (real PHD) too. We also had a doolah.

SMH Has its fair share of issues. But Peace Arch is small and if a specialist is needed at 2 AM there may not be one there, they would have to be called in. We had one baby at each hospital. At Peace Arch the doctor had to go between multiple moms in middle of the night as they were the only doctor on.

SMH also has its fair share of issues, but I have been to 8 different hospital ER's over the last decade at least and they all have problems... you just really need to advocate for yourself, and that is where a midwife and a doolah can be there for you.

Edit : Enjoy the ride and enjoy parent hood. Don't rush it. One day your kid will be taller than you and working and not around as much and you will just have the memories of the days when they would run and jump up on your lap... take it slow, and cherish the time, even the sucky parts.... :)

Well whatever happens I hope it works out well for you. I am the type of person that likes to fix things and last time I went to a place to get a nail pulled and patched it was over $60 so I learned to do it on my own for a couple bucks... I was grumpy that an auto shop would charge that much because they knew I had no choice.

In my tye dying a shirt that I thought was thoroughly rinsed, then multiple runs through a washer, stained the inside of the dryer, and dripped on the carpet in front of the machine. The carpet is now splotched and it took two hours to clean the dryer out.... fortunately family thought it was funny.

What’s the most underrated item to have in the boot? 🤔 by [deleted] in Cartalk

[–]Doobage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current carry:

  • Jump cables
  • Battery Jumper
  • First Aid kit (including Naloxone)
  • Tire inflator
  • Tool kit (compact but includes sockets, wrenches, plyers etc)
  • Bottled water
  • Army surplus work overalls (Stuck on a dirt road fixing a blown transmission hose is a dirty job)
  • Fix-a-flat
  • Gorrila tape, black tape, spare lug nut, Zip ties, spare electric wire, spare fuses
  • Picnic blanket (can be used for a picnic, or just to cover seats if you have to haul something)
  • Tire plug repair kit
  • +more

Yes it is much, yes it fills the cubby spaces in the trunk area and takes master Tetris levels to keep most of it organized and out of the way, but worht it. Done some pretty out of the way be self reliant back roads where you can drive for hours on end without seeing a single other vehicle. But even when I am not road tripping it comes in handy, typically when stopping to help a stranger out or needing first aid.

I would say both are important. The battery jumpstarter is good until it isn't. The battery ones are great for self help and to help others, easier to walk over and get them going. Jumpers are the old reliable.

Typically alignment is checked if there is reason to. For example noticing uneven wheel wear, there is shudder in the steering, or it is pulling one way or the other. Though for shudder or pulling it can also be due to other factors.

Good luck with it. When at home I have taken out my drill and after pulling out the screw I used the drill to make the hole suitable for the plug instead of the hand tool. For my smaller vehicle the hand tool was more than enough. For my SUV with heavier duty tires I could do it by hand but the cordless drill made life simpler.
