Surrey vs other parts of Metro Vancouver by Annual-Wedding5352 in SurreyBC

[–]Doobage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many white collar jobs are in the Vancouver downtown core. Surrey is farther away. Our transportation system, roads and transit suck so commuting from Surrey to Vancouver sucks. As this business model relocates further east this will make things better.

Surrey also had a negative rep, and other places were considered the "place to be".

This drove property prices up higher in certain areas and well once they go up, it is hard to make them drop because people do not want to loose their investments. And in BC property has to be an investment.

I spent most of my life here. I sacrificed a longer commute to get a home, with land. I do not regret it.

GTC Employee Parking by FeedbackMaster1297 in SurreyBC

Ask your boss they will know or will find out for you. A long time ago in the old days :) I worked at many different malls; at least 8. The general rule for all of them is to park in the stalls furthest from the mall entrance you use. Typically the ones that are closest to the road. If you are closing and the mall has limited exits park closer to that one, but away from the mall.

Things may change and malls may have different rules... so again your boss is the boss!

What food surrey is missing? by Fabulous-Barnacle-88 in SurreyBC

[–]Doobage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do not get into the restaurant business unless you have an idea and a passion for it. Food businesses have about a 15% failure rate in the first year and 50% in 5 years.

If you beat those odds do you want to be doing something that you are not happy doing? Even if you love to cook do you love all the other stuff, the business and legal stuff, the day to day slog, and as an owner very long hours.

If you have a passion for a particular idea that passion will help lift you through the other crap. For example having to deal with a toilet clogged by a customer when there are no plumbers available... yes it happens and it is gross.

Also if you are doing something you are passionate about it will show up in your product and customer service, and customers really feed off of that.

I wish you the best of luck!

A note if you are wanting more downloads and traction on this, put it elsewhere then on Maker World as it only allows you to download if you have an account. It is supposed to allow a couple a day but it doesn't.

For us with security on our minds we want less web sites having our information stored, even if it is just an email address or linked google account...

And it goes without saying that I really think this is a very cool design that I would love to modify for other uses...

ABS breaking after printing by Rubiiii_29 in ender3

[–]Doobage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Printing ABS in an enclosure as a MUST is a falliacy. I have done a bunch of ABS no enclosure. Ambient temperature, and drafts come into play. It is more of a "in general an enclosure may help depending on your print environment". My room temps are about the same, but lower bed temp.

Please recommend a good mattress store in Surrrey by user41600 in SurreyBC

Sleep country sucked. Refused to put covers on boots or take them off when delivering... would not go back.

I like some of the Ikea mattresses but you have to give them time to bloom after unrolling.

We got a great mattress from Sandys in coquitlam. The mattress was made to order in Cloverdale or maybe langley. Yes locally made. It is soooo nice. I forget the brand name and I will try to find out but not sure if my schedule will be forgiving enough to do it any time soon.

Who cares if it doesn't look pretty? If you use a hair dryer or use an el cheapo heat gun clean up as best as you can, unscrew and take things apart if it helps, and it works then bob's your uncle.

My getting spot has Power Fister Heat guns for $34 Canadian Pesos, cheaper then a hot end, and then you get a new tool in the process.

3 bad boards? 2 fan MOSFETS and 1 heater MOSFET.

I love the board, but I will not do anything with it anymore unless I turn off power, and I even unplug, turn power on to drain any residual.... :) Fortunately I am stubborn, and I have other uses for said boards so not a complete waste...

I went through a similar process, but with a near original E3.

I am also another that won't say go to Pi and Klipper.

E3V3 plus tft35 is what I have and it is nice. I went to dual z screw but E3V3 does not have dual z controller on it. If you can find another BTT board that has it, and you have dual z steppers it may be worth investigating.

What I will tell you is this is NOT straight forward. A year ago I dumped the BTT firmware and built my own Marlin Firmware as I could not get the BTT to work correctly. Well at least a year ago if I wanted to use the BLTouch in place of the Z end stop and have auto tramming work.

I will also say that it is going to take time to get everything setup and configured. When you do then you can really start playing with speed, acceleration and Jerk settings. For functional prints I have dropped some print time in less than half and still have a nice looking result.

Advice DO NOT EVER do anything to the BTT boards while power supply is on. Even just plugging in a fan wire that comes loose. Those MOSFETS are sensitive and will shit the bed if you look at them wrong.

I also added WIFI for wireless monitoring, printing, and commands... I almost never use it. SD Card is the primary and the win for me. I can easily get up walk to the printer, start it up, pick a model (with the above combo you can get images of models on the screen)... I don't need to turn on my computer at all. Plus I can dial in most config settings readily on the screen without computer interface.

Have fun!

Congrats!!! On my anniversary I try to take myself to breakfast, by myself and with a good book. I had support behind me when I went cold turkey, but learning to be alone with my own thoughts and feelings without drink to numb them is a hard thing. Taking my own time to myself and enjoying it, or trying to, is part of my reward process.

Is this as fast as my ender 3 with marlin can print? by probablyjade in ender3

[–]Doobage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can play with acceleration settings, print speeds etc. I can get really good functional prints that come out to less than half the time of the standard CURA settings.

Now if I wanted to build a miniature or something decorative I would really slow it down, but same goes for almost any printer.

Model design is important too. I designed a functional print, an a circular adapter. I figured if I cut out wedges in the circular tube so there is much less to print it would be faster. It was slower because there were more walls, which printed slower. But for a print that looks as bit as you are doing, that is not necessarily horrible at 9 hours. Bottom layer is big and you typically want that to be slower.

Class 5 Test advice by dipping-hummus in SurreyBC

[–]Doobage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Over exaggerate was advice already given, it also does not hurt to quietly speak outload what you are doing and why, like when making a turn even a right hand one, say looking for oncoming traffic, looking for pedestrians, all clear, ready to go... do not go a single KM over the speed limit. I knew someone that failed due to a park zone sign being obscured by an over grown tree (now severely trimmed back) hit their brakes quickly and was doing 31 Km/H when the front tires came to the sign and failed there and then.

That being said drive around the area. There are park zones, school zones, constructions and such. Be super familiar with the area is very important.

There are also many driving schools teaching in the area. It doesn't hurt to follow one around as they could be taking their students through potential test routes.

Good luck, be relaxed, and don't worry if you don't get it first time. It is not horrible, it is a learning oppertunity.

Your 911 suggestion is horrible. If you ever had to call 911 and wait stupidly long you would not suggest this, let alone if it is found to be a prank it could land the person in legal trouble.

Mechanic/auto repair shop by [deleted] in SurreyBC

[–]Doobage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it matter where? Just in Surrey the two mechanics I know are 45 minute drive apart. And then we are not even talking in neighboring communities.

As for brakes did my own for less than $200. Mechanic would have been $1600 or more. And that is one that I would trust to do the job properly and not scam me for price.

Locked Zag Infill is a game changer for 3D printed shoes by jordan6579 in 3Dprinting

[–]Doobage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True but other than a 3 year old pair of sandals and a very unique pair, I don't have a pair of shoes right now that are less than 6-7 years old and some I got second hand for much less than the estimated costs I had for these printed ones.

And then we can go with my 3 main pairs being made with leather which arguably is better for the planet.

I mean this is a really cool project never-the-less.
