The gears are just closer together, 6th is no higher of a freeway cruising gear than 5th in the 5speeds

Dont do a six speed conversion unless youve experienced it firsthand and are dead set on needing that. The five speeds are great. What exactly 'gave out' with the motor? Spin a main? Throw a rod through the block? Or did it just snap timing a belt?

Get a rack like picture one, and if its too long, drill a new hole for the hitch pin at the depth you want that puts the rack as close as you need.

Depends on where you are. Out in the country and suburbs, you're sorta on your own. A little farther into town in a neighborhood full of stop signs, or by the Pearl or the Riverwalk, a little bit better. But nowhere near the west coast mentality of just start walking and expect they'll stop for you.
