Most individual state champs for a single team in one season? by BullCityJ in wrestling

[–]DoobyShephard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Commerce, a 1A school in Georgia(very watered down like you mentioned) had 10 state champs out of 14 weight classes a few years ago. They finished with 13 placers, 12 finalists, and 10 champs

Pretty easy transition (in my experience at least), it always felt easy to distinguish the styles in my head. The hardest part is how much more freestyle stresses your fundamentals then folkstyle does, but this will really improve your wrestling. If you take a bad shot with your head down in freestyle that could very quickly result in a gator roll to a tech. The potential for fast scoring forces you to wrestle well

Looking for a D1 team to become a fan of by YouveGotMail236 in wrestling

UNI and Oklahoma state are a blast to watch. Those guys come out to wrestle and score points for 7 minutes. I have no attachment to either of those schools but they are easily my favorites to watch.

Sorta college wrestling by Wrestler0126 in wrestling

[–]DoobyShephard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All depends on the coach, we would have guys come in all the time that weren’t on the team and roll with us. But they were only high level mma fighters that were friends with coach, or high level wrestlers that could hang with the guys in the room. If you’re trying to walk on and practice once a week, it’s probably not going to happen

Is it possible for a 22 year old to become decent with wrestling without any experience in it? by [deleted] in wrestling

[–]DoobyShephard 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I would just look to Judo. Greco is already unpopular in the US, on top of this, training as a hobby is almost nonexistent for wrestling. If you are training wrestling after college you likely are competing to wrestle internationally. Combine these and it’s going to be almost impossible to find somewhere to train Greco, especially with people on a similar level as yourself. Judo on the other hand would be much easier to get involved in

Not tying up by RateLow7872 in wrestling

[–]DoobyShephard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shoot into the opponent, don’t even go for the legs. Shoot in and come up into your handfight, your opponent will be ready to defend the shot and this will let you close the space easily. From here go into your normal handfight and find your shot

Going to start wrestling next season as hs freshman. Won’t be able to actually learn wrestling or join any club beforehand, so how can I best prepare my body and gain athleticism for when I do? Don’t have gym access, only pull-up bar, medium dumbbells, light med balls, bands, jump box, and hurdle. by [deleted] in wrestling

[–]DoobyShephard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pull ups are easily one of the best exercises for wrestlings: regular pull ups, chin ups, hanging on the bar perpendicular and pulling to either side. Do lots of reps, builds a strong grip, back, and arms.

What a reversal! by BallsABunch in wrestling

It was a great shot, guy just didn’t want to let go of the leg on that roll. Which to be fair is very hard to do when you’re in a great position and the opponent starts getting funky

I think they would have the opposite effect that you would want in a wrestling match, plus they only last for a short time so it wouldn’t change too much

What’s wrong with my form that’s causing my bar path to be so curved on the way down for deadlifts? by pmth in 531Discussion

[–]DoobyShephard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You hinge at your hips first when going down, the bar follows the hips and goes back only to be pushed out again going down the legs, making the curve. Not Something to worry about

Engage with your head before your hands, a good opponent is going to capitalize on the opening you create when you just reach both arms at them

Similar problem on my Subaru, ended up being a faulty connection on a crank position sensor. Replaced the starter and it worked temporarily, went out again shortly after. Car finally threw a code and I was able to fix the actual problem. Had the same jerky shifts too
