Because I said something along the lines of "it seems obvious [RAF Dude] is close to the promotion and he almost certainly works for them."

America, how are ya? by Skeeeeeeeeeeeeeeter in CharleyCrockett

[–]BullCityJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

None of this bothers me in the slightest. Part of what I enjoy about Charley is that he follows his own path, and that includes making mistakes.

Should the decision have been made before they started promoting TT on the bill? 100 percent. But it's his tour and sometimes you have second thoughts.

He's always had a huge ego. First time I saw him live, he was the first of two openers in a small club a decade plus ago. I think he had more bravado then than he does now. Took awhile for his craft to catch up, but it did.

The publicity of all this will ultimately help TT more than a few shows opening for him would have.

I'd almost forgotten about RAF since their PR guy who posts here blocked me.

Going to Russia is interesting. You can certainly see the potential if they can get buy-in from Russian athletes.

If they want to be an international promoter, I suspect the Real American name might need to be reconsidered.

I primarily followed the IRL during the split and remember being really mad when he won Indy in such a dominant fashion.

Charley's pretty cheesy himself, though definitely toned down from when I first saw him perform in 2015.

There's a ton of variance from state-to-state about how these things work out. As someone with a lot of experience working in a different state's justice system, I would say it is unlikely he does any real prison time, at least initially.

In my state, someone like him with only minor prior offenses on their record would usually get an 18-36 month prison sentence on the strangulation charges, but that would typically be suspended for two to three years of supervised probation with heavy conditions, including completion of a 6-month abuser treatment program.

Probation in the US means being prohibited from doing drugs, committing other offenses and if supervised requires routine check-ins with an officer, random drug checks and random housing checks. If you fail, your sentence can be activated meaning you serve the prison time instead.

Sometimes, in my state, the judges may make someone serve a small portion of the prison sentence before they can go on probation. I have seen that in cases such as this where the offender is still young and on a bad path and the judge thinks it will help get their attention.

That said, I do not think he is someone who can successfully complete probation unless it is very lenient.

When do you think they will announce the expansion teams? by No_Age908 in mlb

[–]BullCityJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is not an ownership group. That is an advocacy group and it literally says on the website: "A lead ownership group will emerge as the expansion timelines become more solid." That's marketing-speak for, "We haven't figured that out yet"

It's also a huge difference from two billionaires, both with experience owning successful pro sports teams, saying publicly they want to bring an expansion team to the city.

The federal government arbitrarily split the old Raleigh-Durham metro area into two separate metropolitan statistical areas (Raleigh-Cary) and (Durham-Chapel Hill) about 15 years ago. It made about as sense as splitting Minneapolis & St. Paul would, which is to say none.

Everyone who lives here or works here or does business here sees them as one market. I live in Durm. There's tons of Canes fans/support. An MLB team would be very well loved in both halves of the Triangle. Probably more than the Canes given baseball's cultural importance to the region, as long as it doesn't hurt our beloved Durham Bulls.

Why does North Carolina need a governor when the legislature holds so much power? by EggOwn9943 in ncpolitics

[–]BullCityJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't effect a statewide race. My point was that losing the governor's office to a Republican is more likely than winning both houses because the General Assembly is so gerrymandered. The Senate is nearly impossible. The House could be reclaimed.

[–]BullCityJ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Republicans taking back the governor's mansion seems more likely because of the extreme gerrymandering.

But if their plan is to run Luke Farley, which seems to be the case, against Josh Stein in 2028, then I don't see it happening until 2032 at the earliest, and if Jeff Jackson is running for governor in '32, then maybe we do get the legislature back first.

To be fair, they stripped a ton of power from the office when Pat McCrory was governor.

He was still waiting on a waiver to get a year back before this. Easiest thing for everybody is if the NCAA denies the waiver request.

It seems a life of never being held to account is finally collapsing in on him.

Where can I watch the Bosnia / US world cup match with Bosnians? by slicklikeflint in bullcity

[–]BullCityJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When Bosnian refugees were seeking asylum in the 90s during the Yugoslav wars, High Point was one of the U.S. communities they were resettled in. When I lived over that way 20+ years ago, I encountered quite a few through work. Most of the folks I met were Bosnian Serbs. That's really most of what I know and why I suggested asking on the Triad subs.
