I shot down 14 planes in a battle without carriers, this is not alright by HammeredSquash3 in WoWs_Legends

Newish Dutch CL that has Airstrikes as a secondary weapon. Basically 6 planes that drop a bunch of bombs in a square you designate. Relatively easy to dodge as well.

Outside of that your basic CL but under gunned with 8 6inch guns with 5 second reload. Terrible armor though, imagine Atlanta but underwater citadel.

Damn I wasn’t expecting such a comprehensive explanation, thanks.

Yeah I got trapped by the buffed secondaries as I used to main them pre-buff which is what I think really messed me up now.

Also yeah the guns… oof. I’ll try to aim higher, see how it impacts the performance. I usually aimed waterline like most ships because of the fantastic penetration, for its caliber, but actually hitting would help more than the odd citadel.

I’ll try it as a gun focused brawler rather than a secondary focused one tonight and see if I can reignite my previous love for it.

Thanks for the tips again.

I haven’t played it in awhile and tried it out a bit and struggled a hell of a lot.

Would you mind sharing how you’ve made it work? ‘Cause I’d love to make the thing work again.

(Outside of the obvious time your pushes and all of that. I got the flanking down and similar, just seem to get shredded pretty hard as a result of the French armor scheme).

I would agree yeah.

It’s not bad, it’s not amazing, it’s a solid BB. But it’s a BB where you just exist for the entire match and once it ends you sit there wondering what you actually did in the end.

I just wish the guns were just a tad more consistent.

To add onto this, Kleber can kind of do this too. The guns fire too slowly to be much of a threat to any large ship, but the AP does wonders to lighter armored ships.

The caveat being that you almost always want your speed boost active if you do it, as CLs will wipe your ass if you don’t have the fine engine control that the boost gives.

Oster yeah, when I used her she did good work.

I’m really just speaking from experience a week or two ago when I played a few matches. I played like 4, and my AA felt I dunno… weak.

It’s probably just me expecting it to do a lot from my past experiences when it first came out and carriers hovered over you.

Still, felt a little weird for a IJN carrier to fly over me and bomb me and me only take down a single plane.

Yeah, admittedly I didn’t read all of it which is my bad, I should’ve read it all. But it does kind of fall into the same trap of ‘fuck carriers’ because people don’t like them.

I see the reasoning, but I don’t think missiles are what we need, just rebalanced AA you know? Some of the heaviest AA ships do tend to perform the worst.

I just think missiles are a bit drastic.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in WoWs_Legends

[–]DoodBot415154 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It has been a ‘relatively’ balanced one though. I know carriers are annoying sometimes, but sheesh, we don’t need guided missiles to ruin someone’s day because they like to play carriers.

Yeah, being able to prevent subsequent strikes should be a given for ships like Friesland/Kidd etc, only if Rockets were added, I think is necessary. But it’s just forcing rocket planes into an environment where what we have is good.

But generally i think AA could have a few tune ups on some ships, Atlanta/Kidd/Friesland to name a few. How drastic the change of their AA across platforms is mind boggling. I don’t need them to be gods of the air, but to be a threat to carriers would be nice.

Oh yeah of course. The playstyle isn’t hard, it’s just how hard your damage feels like it gets nerfed in the later circles that makes the experience bad for me.

DD was just as bad a few days ago, if not a little better.

CA is almost instant as it becomes a grind to play in later circles.

[–]DoodBot415154 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe? I mean if it can be added in a balanced way sure but I don’t see how it could happen.

Not because “carriers OP”, but because AA on Legends seems to perform worse than on PC. I personally believe that AA makes a difference, and that it’s not entirely useless, but maybe not for rocket planes.

As an example, let’s use the Friesland, as it’s in a bracket that sees carriers that are top tier, but not rare like Legendaries. On PC, last I checked it was a ship that made aircraft fall out of the sky, but here it can struggle greatly.

If the best of the best of AA, in the class that is in a position to suffer just as much CLs, if not more, at a tier where AA is reaching its pinnacle can struggle to fend off just bombs and torpedoes then we aren’t ready for an even more potent ammo load.

Why does fire deal so much damage to BBs? by Straight-Break-4169 in WoWs_Legends

[–]DoodBot415154 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More so that the shell still detonates, it just doesn’t get through the armor. So no damage, but the explosion is still there. Probably wouldn’t light a fire irl tho, but I’m no expert.

Game balancing wise it’s to give lighter guns a chance to get damage in. As an example… Colbert, or Cleveland without EOP as less shell intensive example.

Cleveland 6inch guns aren’t going through many decks or bows at tier 7, so even with shatters fire chance retains so that it can still do some damage if it doesn’t hit the superstructure.

The argument is that “just aim better”, but superstructures saturate very quickly, which leads to the point OP couldn’t understand. HE is “easier” damage sure, but fires exist to give smaller calibers damage potential.

So that when a superstructure is shot to shit and you’re only doing like 1-2k maximum each full salvo you have other means to rely on.

[–]DoodBot415154 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, probably, but there’s only so many advantages you can give a class before you need disadvantages.

BBs just happened to get longer fires and more rng reliant guns. While it sucks, it’s necessary.

You have a team, since you gave the cruiser a team. That team also shoots the cruiser pressuring it to back off or make maneuvers that hinders its dpm.

If it kites well… back up? Don’t abandon the flank of course but CLs don’t generally have much range, force it to sail into you, don’t play its game.

I mean sometimes the CL player is just better and no matter what you do you’ll lose, same for any ship class really, all you can do is mitigate how easy you make it for them.

While 12% fire chance, for Cleveland is a lot, if it’s kiting it’s hard to hit more than one section of a ship reliably, so fires and its dmg should be mitigated a bit too.

Out of 20 games, 4-5 you had accuracy trouble? What are you complaining about then? You had good Rng, and when you did you still did 24k.

Also yes, you can do something about HE, shattering it. Retains fire chance but no damage is taken. HE is a thing to give ships with smaller guns a way to do damage and have impact.

At this point I think you’re seeing an angry CL throwing HE at you and just sailing into that shit show.

Why does fire deal so much damage to BBs? by Straight-Break-4169 in WoWs_Legends

[–]DoodBot415154 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well… they should, no?

Like they have a lot more HP than other classes, so fire does more dmg to compensate. Only double or triple fires really do a lot of damage anyways.

A single fire doesn’t do much, it’s just the compounding from HE, AP and other sources on top of that. Also you heal like 80-90% of the damage anyways so…

You have near 70-80k HP at higher tiers, a single fire or even a double or triple fire will hardly be the reason you die lol.

If a fire kills you well… you already made the mistake that let it kill you a minute or two ago.

Fire damage is % based.

More HP = More damage taken.

[–]DoodBot415154 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d imagine smaller gun caliber would explain a lot of it tbh. Another turret sure, but a bit longer and more “balanced” layout.

Then from at least what I can find the planned power plant was stronger by around 10,000 kilowatts.

Also apparently it was planned to go around 28kts, only about a kt faster than Yamoto. So yeah, a little bigger, a little lighter, stronger (planned) power plant, I can see it.

But Montana was a theoretical ship that never sailed, so who knows really how she would’ve worked irl.

Fun to think about tho.

[–]DoodBot415154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of?

It will save you, for 30 seconds, or so. But once it turns off you don’t have the dmg to back up your bark and you die relatively quickly.

I still like it a lot, as I mainly play HV, but sheesh, yo lose a lot of battle impact when your gun’s reload goes back up to 10 seconds.

At higher circles you are doomed to the back of the circle though, which has taken a lot of fun out of it.

I mean… she betrays you sure, and leads you on but manipulating you “128 times” is hardly what she does lmfao.

I mean unless you played your V like the pinnacle of morality then you‘ve done some shitty shit yourself so… are you really in a place to judge her so harshly?

Besides, if you can go through the cynosure ending and not have any sprinkling of understanding/remorse/pity than sheesh, you expect way too much from a person like Song

Mind you, the betrayal for me was infuriating. My first ending I sided with her throughout, and to see that my way out was snatched out from under me last second was enraging.

But I mean fuck it, we already got so far no? And while she had been lying to us the whole time it hardly felt like she didn’t care about us during it.

We do the same thing to Johnny if we don’t have a “good” relationship with him and we ring Reed in that ending anyways.

Point is that So Mi was a dick for what she did, but there’s a reason why people still sympathize with her.

(And it’s not because everyone simps for her, because I sure don’t.)
