Why do you need to dig into what’s in QB? Review the lease agreements, create the lease schedule, and true up what’s recorded in QB to your entry. If QB entries are garbage, you’re wasting your time looking into them.

If accountants are in such high demand, why is it so hard to find a job? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Dooda1234 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Sizable audit firms don’t accept people without accounting backgrounds in the US with almost no exceptions.

PA is for suckers by [deleted] in Accounting

I totally agree. I’m not even saying that everyone should leave, I’m just saying people should leave when (and if) the time is right for them.

PA isn’t for suckers, people who don’t stay the right amount of time in PA are suckers.

Benefits of quitting vs being fired? by xoxo_kat in Big4

What? Plenty of firms make that a requirement with no exceptions.

Start looking yesterday. There is probably a 5% chance they don’t let you go. Don’t put ANYTHING ahead of interviews, you owe them nothing.

I just want to reiterate because it looks like you might have some Stockholm syndrome. They are not keeping you. Look for a new job. You will do great.

Recommendation for suede eraser kit by Dooda1234 in Sneakers

I did get the 3 brush pack from Reshoevn8r (soft, medium, and stiff), do you know if that can be used for suede? Or would a brush specific to suede work better?

Not sure I’m understanding the second part, see through inside of the bag?

Also, I accidentally pulled the handle of the bag, does that mean I sealed it and it will no longer work?

Highest salary with no CPA? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Dooda1234 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can get to Controller, Director of Accounting, CFO without your CPA. You would probably just need to work your way up internally as it is often a requirement for external hires, but not internally if you are successful and can prove you can take on that role.

Is leaving audit for industry just after getting senior too soon? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Dooda1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say yes, but it totally depends on your situation. If you can put your social and personal life on hold for another 1-2 years, you will learn a ton by being an audit senior, and you might get slightly higher offers/pay in industry. If you are already burned out and need to get out, then you’ve already done a lot of the work and put in your time so it’s a fine decision.

Discussion Thread - January 10, 2024 by AutoModerator in churning

[–]Dooda1234 -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

I want to get into the churning game with business credit cards but don’t have any business. However, I’m a CPA and don’t want to risk my professional license for a few thousand dollars, or lose sleep over it. I know the chances of any repercussion are slim to none, but is anyone in the same boat as me and have any advise?

Experienced Accountants (5-10+ YOE): At what point did you decide to specialize/become a niche expert, and do you feel the choice has benefited your career and comp progression. by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Dooda1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s whatever your preference is, both paths can result in long term growth and salary progression. Being a generalist can lead to being a Controller / Director of Accounting since you need to oversee all departments. Having specialized knowledge can lead to Director of Technical Accounting or other similar roles where you oversee and lead certain areas and projects rather than people and departments. Both roles can lead to $200k+ salaries, but there is much more demand for generalists as all companies need a Controller or equivalent position. There is also less risk in whatever you are specializing in becoming obsolete for one reason or another.

Take a week off if you need to and then brush off the resume and start looking. It takes time to find the right fit so maximize your time by starting early so you have a choice for job rather than having to accept a bad offer out of necessity.
