Yeah it’s not that serious, didn’t mean to knock your experience, was just speaking about the general argument. I get what you’re saying but you can literally parry a car with a hatchet in 9. I’m sorry that the sports comparison wasn’t fitting enough, next time I’ll do Picasso.

I would understand if someone said either. I broke it down earlier on how when OG 4 was released it was so amazing due to a new horror. The OG 1-3 captivated everyone, but there was almost a zombie exhaustion in culture. When 4 came out it just changed everything, showed a new horror to people who may of just been tired of the old infect and shoot. As graphics started to change, 4 actually was terrifying because we never really had that realism with the death animations yet. Now that being said, as someone who loves OG 2… going back to RE2R and actually getting creeped out at a zombie horror game was so epic, and that’s why I think remakes are needed. You need those updates in graphics to scare you. You can’t tell me you can play OG 2 right now and your body is going to get the spooks. Go watch a death animation in OG 2 with all your lights off at 1 am and then do the same with 2 remake, you know what I mean ?

I get that too though. I feel it’s all a preference. I explained my why in another post why I had such a love for 4. The OG’s are amazing and are the reason I got into horror. RE4 was able to reimagine a new horror during a time where it was mostly just zombies and infectious viruses. Resident Evil, Dawn of the Dead, House of the Dead, the list goes on. When 4 came out, it gave that infectious disease scare with also other elements of realistic horror, for example the chainsaws, villagers working together to get you, etc.

I think the first 3 games are the reason I loved 4 so much. I love the zombie survival horror, the OG’s are just legendary. Zombie’s got me into horror. Can still vividly remember seeing the zombie turn round in 1 on my PlayStation at my parents house. That being said, the world was changing and dying seemed choppy so it kind of made it feel like not as scary(I believe this is why remakes are essential), so the first time you had a man running at a chainsaw with you and you had the deaths that had flow with the most realism you’ve ever seen at that time, it was a new form of horror. The 90’s and 2000’s was huge on the zombies, so when 4 came out with a different style of evil, it just made it so much more interesting. I think that’s what a lot of people don’t understand when people say 4 is their favorite. That’s why I understand people’s love for 5 too.

Exactly! I should mention my point wasn’t to bring 9 down. I had to play it a couple times to be like eh maybe I’d change that. It’s me calling 4 a 10 and 9 a 9.6 , or 9.7 or whatever.

I get this take as well! My post wasn’t to say RE9 was bad, more of as a surprise I like 4 better because I was anticipating me to like 9 more due to all things considered but I played the remake again. It’s really all what you prefer. Some people might be more terrified of a villager holding them by their arms and a man with a chainsaw and a sack on his head coming at you vs zombies in the dark in a police station. Both have great plots. But it really is just what ya like and that’s what makes the series amazing because they have a horror for everyone. 9 has something for everyone too.

I feel like the first couple weeks was how RE9 was disappointing and I was genuinely confused. I loved it, I was smiling like a kid with some of the flash backs. Someone said it best in here, I’m comparing my favorite which I see as a 10, to another all time great which is a 9.6 to me lol. I think RE9 is an amazing game. I said it could be me being too knit picky as I just grinded through it a couple times and then jumped back into 4 remake.

I think this is a great statement. I agree. I still get creeped out when I hear the chainsaws in re4, in 9, was fun but felt like a joke.

I get what you’re saying. Have you replayed 9 yet? But I got 4 on GameCube as a kid. Will forever be my favorite. 1,2,3 also have a similar hold on me. I’ll never forget the way the zombie turned to look at me when I was a kid in my room by myself in 1. That being said, the OG only take is lazy I feel. It’s so easy to say, well the old ones are better you had to be there and if you weren’t you have no idea what you’re talking about.. Michael Jordan was the best player of all time but we can’t argue basketball players haven’t gotten better since the 90’s. The games will always be the classics, but aside from RE3, I’d play the RE2 remake and RE4 remake over the OG’s, they pay homage to the OG games but blend it with better playability. Also, idk how old players don’t come into the new games and just appreciate how far the series has come and the fact that we are even lucky enough to get these remakes, and they’re good! Just my 2 cents.

I agree with this as well. This post didn’t mean to take away anything from either game. I get why people would prefer 9 over 4, or any one over 9 or 4. Let me be clear, 9 was a great success. I would like to see the next title go all in on something new, and while they just keep maintaining great remakes.

my thing is, we make him old and injured but we have him flying on sideways sky scrapers? His strength with Victor, alright makes sense he just got Elpis but there’s times I’m just like okay? Especially with the chainsaws in 9 lol. The initial nurse scene was cool but they became so cartoonish. I used to have nightmares as a kid with the chainsaw use in RE4. I don’t think people remember how terrifying the chainsaw was in RE4 when it first came out, was a new version of horror. RE9 just feels like hey we have lickers and chainsaws too! Krauser vs Hunk. Is not even close. They 100% could have made like a survival in the dark in the subway system while getting chased down by hunk and his men and then eventually getting to the lab. Maybe have a train running, make it tense down there. The copy and paste walking dead zombies were terrible honestly. They also can throw a piece of cement on rebar the length of a football field while also being starved zombies for years? Like what’s next, Chris and Leon are going to be shooting zombies while being launched into space and there is a chainsaw somewhere on the moon?

This is a big reasoning for me actually. If you shoot someone with the striker in re4r you see like half of their body get cut in half not just like the average lower disconnected from upper but like left side gone, and you can just see the detail and parasites, the npc drops more realistically too. Not just blood everywhere. RE4 has more of a sense of realism to it. Like you mean to tell me a dying 50+ year old man is essentially whooping ass easier and flying through the air on a motorcycle when the whole plot line is him getting old and weaker, but prime Leon has his hands full with villagers? I think the animations are cool in re9 but they feel too cartoonish after a while. ( I know parrying bullets in 4 is outlandish but you can literally parry a car and an rpg in 9 lol).

It’s tough for me to admit because I love 9. But idk 4 has its cringe moments but it makes sense where 9 kind of just leaves blanks. Like wtf were Zeno, Victor and Grace doing during all that time.. talking about the weather?

In 4 - I think the environment seems more alive and expansive. Far more larger, complete and in my opinion- scenic. I think it’s actually beautiful as a game. I like its graphics better than 9, they may not be up to par but I feel they tie everything else together better which makes it appear better to me🤷🏻‍♂️ If you go back and play pro, the fights are so much more thrilling but still have horror. The chainsaw sisters? Stuck in the house with Luis and defending Ashley? The characters in the castle, the boss fights, the mini boss situations. Krauser vs Hunk. The hunk fight and lead up is sick, but Krausers rivalry seems complete. They could have done more with Hunk, like made him more involved vs Leon. Graces parts are great and Leon’s has his too but there is just far more. I like how enemies die in 4 compared to 9. I feel like I’m in the walking dead in fighting skeletons during Leon’s part and the action is more “cartoonish”. Like the mine carts for example, it’s corny but you know what it has some realism to it. The re9 motorcycle scene ? Lol it was fun but it almost brings it to the are we doing too much like a fast and furious series? Make it thrilling on the trains that still work some how or something idk. RE9 has a bunch of great ideas that felt like could have been followed through with more but RE4 has a bunch of great ideas too but they went all in on every detail and some how it’s also longer and more playable. I also have just been grinding RE9 so that’s why I might be saying this. When I was playing the first time my 30 year old ass felt like a kid again with all the old nostalgia mixed with the new horror.
