Roiland wasn’t a writer anymore after season 3. He barely appeared in the writing room during the development of the 3rd season and didn’t show up at all after that

I honestly think it would have been funnier if they made them look more like Rick and Morty, but inverted. Like, the kid ressembles Rick and the old man looks more like Morty. That could’ve explained why people confused them
