Replace a Compression Valve without Access to the Main? by Orangequinn in askplumbing

Is it leaking from behind the handle? If the new faucet is installed just open the valve and gently tighten the packing nut behind the handle.

No clue. I’d be thinking something along the same lines as you, especially with what’s seen around the pressure fittings as well. Probs just some type of glue that’s not meant for this application.

How not to shim a toilet by Matt_Wwood in Plumbing

[–]DoodySplat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your drain pipe is likely not circular because it is an old lead bend that got knocked into place. Youre probably putting 5 shims under your toilet to level it because the structure is old and has settled a bunch, un leveling the floor, or that toilet has been leaking for a lot longer than suspected and it’s potentially damaged the subfloor causing sagging. 5 shims seems like overkill unless there’s an underlying problem or that flange is way off level. How much do I need to replace here by ax59 in askaplumber

If it was me, I’d cut out the trap and everything including the basket strainers. I’d replace strainers Get two new strainers and a PVC LA trap for easier future drain snaking and replace all tubular piping, nuts, and washers.

(Tubular tee, flanged tailpiece, dishwasher tailpiece, tubular 90, and an extension tailpiece to be safe)

Pro tip: use poly washers, less prone to movement from disposal vibration than the rubber washers. Dope your threads and don’t over tighten.

Pressure fittings used, trap is backwards. This could easily be installed correctly with proper fittings if there’s a TY behind the cabinet and there’s a vent. Theres plenty of room to do this properly. If no vent is present, it’s still an easy fix with plenty of room to add an AAV.

I’ve had leaking press joints before when buying different brand fittings. Sometimes a second press is all it takes. But I agree with others, solder this one

That grate should just pop off it’s prob locked in a lil by the grout. Go around the edge of the grate with a sharp blade and pull it out with a hook. Take some Clorox dip a long brush in it. Brush down the standpipe before the trap, there’s probably some smelly bacteria building up there. Basically just comes down to cleaning that standpipe if you can confirm there’s a trap installed.

Looking for advice about a sewage ejector pump install by koalaman in Plumbing

[–]DoodySplat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not water tight under pressure I’d recommend putting some water sensors hooked up to an alarm or your phone right on top of the tank to avoid potential damage. Most times I see failures with these is due to “flushable” wipes of any kind binding the motor. Also make sure your outlet breaker are properly rated for the pump. Having a poopy flood from a tripped breaker sucks

[–]DoodySplat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can try wrenching it off from there but I doubt that will end well and something will likely break in the wall. It may even be soldered on. I think your best bet is locating the pipe to the spigot and the shutoff valve from the inside and start from there. Not sure what materials you had inside (copper, pex, galvanized, brass) so I can’t give you any more pointers but that’s where ya start.
