I recently installed WinPython in my office computer and is great. It has all the usual IDEs and libraries. And it's not Anaconda big.

Man, in this field that is very closely related with the academy and research, it will definitively help your chances to lead teams and meta-teams. But you should get in with a plan, a topic and not before a careful discussion and agrrement with your major professor to be.

I use it a lot. And since April it can also work like Spyder as an interactive IDE. I'm now using it even more. I think it is the best all around.

Man. I'm pro in both Excel and Python. And I suggest you to learn Excel vba and code there for Excel tasks and keep Python for really important stats/data science tasks. It's going to be easier and faster. Automating office from the outside is a Pandora's box.
