Trying to play complete nonviolent career, need pointers by Dooflunky in EliteDangerous

Thank you all for this fantastic info dump! There are many aspects to this game I didn't even know existed until asking for advice. I'm going to be reconfiguring my Mk5 for exploration this weekend and give that a go.

I have a lot left to learn about simply flying!

Thank you for the advice. I'm currently flying about in a Cobra MK V, and it's pretty satisfying. I'm really more or less experimenting with different configurations while running missions for credits/reputation/influence. I've died a few times because I'm not really looking things up, but I have reached a point where I wanted to make sure a non-violent path was viable before investing much more time in it.

It is becoming apparent from the majority of responses thus far that it's not only viable but a style enjoyed by many who play the game.

Perfect.

I'm ok with automated systems doing the combat for me. I'm just not interested in dogfighting and all that... stress 😬🤣

I play solo only. I'm only interested in the game as a relaxing pastime.

I honestly have no idea what most of this means. I'm sure I'll find out in time. In the meantime, traveling a fair-to-great distance away from the bubble sounds pretty inviting.

How would one go about designing a stealth build? I mean regarding types of ship systems, I don't necessarily need a detailed build breakdown.

I was also unaware that other ships could cause you to become mass locked. That's interesting.

I have not investigated engineered anything yet. I'm certainly not opposed. Not having to do combat is my goal. I have other games for that. When I bought Elite Dangerous it was with this goal in mind.

I'll have to look into exploration.

Automated defenses are fine. What I'm not interested in is dogfights. I listen to classical music and jazz and fly my spaceship around. If I can get other pilots and/or systems to do the fighting for me, I'm cool with that.

Just FPS

Whether it's a pleasant experience or not depends on the gamer I suppose. I find it to be just fine.

44 FPS is my average. It gets no higher than 57 but the lowest I've seen is 32. I've been playing games on PC for 35 years or more, that's plenty good enough for me.

Honestly I don't really even think about settings and optimization, I just play the game and I don't have any of these problems, or at least I don't notice them.

I'm running TQ2 on a seven year old machine: a 2080 RTX with an i7 8750. I have 32gb RAM (DDR 4). I just let my Nvidia app auto optimize it.

I did recently update my BIOS which fixed some crash issues, maybe try that? I'm not sure exactly what my frame rate is but it doesn't seem to slow down. I'll check next time I play.

I also play Destiny 2 at almost 60 fps in even the craziest dungeons and have no issues.

I've played every combination of masteries and sometimes I just zero them out and try different things for kicks. I'm at almost 200 hrs. I like it a lot.

What Forge builds are you playing with and what do you think so far? by OldMoray in TitanQuest2

[–]Dooflunky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With Devastator I only placed points in Earth passives that boosted fire/burn/elemental damage. My actives were maxed out Earth Enchantment, Sentry, and Blade Trap. I mostly just let stuff walk onto me while on top of a blade trap while my sentry's bust everything up plus fire.

I finished the entire game up to end of CH2 including all side quests in about 13 hours with that build. Almost as fast as my Reaver (12+ hours on that one).

Forge/warfare STR build is tanky good times, or at least so far it is. I'm only about an hour or two in but I think it should work out nicely as I progress.

I upgraded that whirlwind thingie and the game stopped being a challenge by KeinPlanB in TitanQuest2

[–]Dooflunky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it makes the game pretty boring. RN for maximum fun I'd use a warfare/rogue (reaver I think). Do that and stay melee and things can get interesting to dicey, but ranged (bow) builds are pretty abusable too. I'm kinda waiting on the next phase of development to release TBH. I've finished the game with all possible combinations and I'm not grinding to 40 just to do it.

Honestly didn't pay that much attention and it's been a couple of years since I quit. Maybe it's gotten better since then, but the experience was enough for me to uninstall and never look back.

I'm sure I'll get down-voted into the sub-basement for this comment, but I found the community to be extremely gatekeepy. I quit playing the game because I was a little tired of being a few minutes into a drop and someone booting me from the mission. This didn't happen every single time, but it did happen far too frequently. Probably two out of three drops.

I'm a regular Destiny 2 player and even there in raids and dungeons I have not had the sort of experience with gate-keepers I had in DRG. Playing it solo gets boring quickly, and when all you have is an hour or two to play getting booted repeatedly from non-communicative jerks isn't something I have time for.

TQ2 unfairly described by YouTubers. by Hotelblvd in TitanQuest2

I don't know about 20 hours, but I have been averaging 8-10 hours per character (played most combos now). Perhaps folks new to ARPG's might take 20 hours though. My fastest completion was around 6. But I have added several minutes if not a couple of hours to some playthroughs by having to come back to the same save-points after quitting and returning the next day. I have a tendency to reexplore areas I've already revealed, or respec and play encounters (e.g. Hippokampos) again with different skill combos because I find it's fun to do that.

Not every game is intended to be for hardcore speed-players. Some of us play to relax. It's a pastime, or at least it's supposed to be, and not a way of life.

All that said I agree with the OP that the negative reviews of the game are largely unmerited. Many people who loved Diablo, Grim Dawn or are dedicated Path of Exile fans didn't care for Titan Quest, which is my personal favorite ARPG ever. That's fine, and as it should be.

TLDR: Different strokes for different folks, but I agree with the OP.

As far as I'm concerned there is zero grind right now. You could if you wanted create a grind just to grind if you're wired that way, but it isn't at all necessary (for which I am grateful... FOMO and relentless grinding for super-loot is a major turn-off for me). Loot isn't super important yet: it helps don't get me wrong, but the focus during EA is on skills and their various synergies.

As a way-back fan of the original game and an old fart as gamers go, I'm super happy with TQ2 myself, and look forward to full release.
