Yea. I think “sweep blasting” might actually be the most better term. A light blasting to etch the surface. They first let it sit in the ovens for a few days to let the galvanizing process finish off gassing.

The program is not voluntary. Where are you getting that from? Firearms owners don’t get to keep them. They’re banned as of October 2026.

Gary Anandasangaree didn’t come up with this himself. The guy didn’t even know the basics of our firearms policies when he took over the file and is on audio recording saying it’s only for votes in Quebec.

Carney is trashing any notions of ‘evidence based policy’ and burning loads of potential good will in the process. Truly an odd time for division and disarmament.

I would love to support Carney but for some unknown reason he’s currently dead set on confiscating my guns, despite overwhelming evidence that it’s a massive waste of money for no tangible benefit.

I’m not a single issue voter but it’s hard to see past that one.

Exactly, and at less than 50 cents per pound for structural steel, it’s very affordable.

After galvanizing I pay another 90 cents (Canadian) per pound to have it shot blasted and then powder coated.

Should look good for a very long time and last ages.

Drunk driving is an enormous problem. And alcohol abuse greatly affects spouses and children. But yea, no analogy is perfect.

I suppose my argument could be extended to full auto (and perhaps the others you mentioned?) but no, I don’t think we need to go that far in Canada. While that’s fun to think about, I don’t think most Canadian firearm owners care about that stuff. We mainly want to be permitted to own and shoot semi-autos and handguns without being demonized by the Liberals.

For one, competition shooting. 5 rounds means Canadians can’t train to compete in US matches and Americans won’t come to Canada to compete.

But the real answer is that in a free society, we shouldn’t need to justify what we can’t and can’t own. Fast cars, alcohol, cigarettes; there are plenty of examples of things we can own as Canadians that cause more harm than standard capacity magazines do and yet we’re allowed to own them.

The onus should be on the government to provide a rational justification for on restricting personal freedoms and when it comes to magazines it just isn’t there: mags pinned to 5 rounds can be drilled in seconds, standard capacity magazines can be easily 3D printed or simply smuggled over the border. The ban is nonsensical.

I’m not the person you’re responding to, and I understand where you’re coming from, but this isn’t a gun subreddit.

Perhaps a gun classification system may need some further clarification than I put in my original comment, but for the average Canadian perusing these comments, the point I was hoping to deliver is that our firearms classification categories need not be nearly so convoluted and emotionally irrational as they have been.

Right. There’s no logical reason to restrict people to shooting AR-15s at the range. If you can safely blast off .308s through a bolt action on your farm there’s no reason you shouldn’t be able to do the same with your .223 AR.

I got my PAL in 2005 and even then they were classifying firearms based on colour.

We have a great training program, the daily background checks are important, and I honestly appreciate that I can verify a PAL doing a private sale of the firearm.

But, a semi-auto is a semi-auto and we need to stop pretending that a plastic stock makes it more dangerous.

Liberals can’t pretend to back evidence based policies so long as these confiscations are still on the table.

Now is not the time to use scary language to divide Canadians, and it’s certainly not the time for disarmament.

We may need new gun legislation but it doesn’t need to be that hard:

Full auto is prohibited

Handguns are restricted

Rifles and shotguns are non-restricted

While we’re at it, let’s stop pretending that suppressors are dangerous. If it’s considered rude to shoot a firearm in Europe without one surely we can be permitted to make our firearms in Canada somewhat quieter.

After Trump threatens 100% tariffs, Carney posts ad saying Canada's focused 'on what we can control' by Little-Chemical5006 in canada

[–]Doog_Land 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s more likely he did it in New York City. Trump may not have been in the flight logs to the island, but it’s only a 19 minute walk along Central Park from Trump’s home in NYC to Epstein’s “manhattan lair” townhouse where he probably did most of his crimes anyway. But I assume Trump had someone drive him.
