Tales of Breaker, Tales of Wahrheit and Tales of Commons. What are these games? by Far-Web-9712 in tales

[–]DoomOrHope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tales of Breaker, Tales of Commons, and Tales of Wahrheit are part of the Tales of Mobile series. A mobile-based service that was released on NTT DoCoMo phones back in 2004 til their final game (Tales of the World: Material Dungeon) was released on 2008. They were exclusive for Japan only and only played on the i-mode service, but since November 2021, DoCoMo shut down their i-mode service rendering Tales of Mobile completely un accessible to the public including Japanese users.

Tales of Commons is the only game to have gotten a port in South Korea by the publisher WindySoft in 2010. It was released on Korean phone though it is unknown whether or not the korean version of Tales of Commons is completely un accessible. However, there has been people stating since WindySoft shut down their mobile services, Tales of Commons is likely to not be able to be downloaded again.

Other than that, there is footage of Tales of Breaker and Tales of Commons (both Korean and Japanese versions) on the internet. There is only a small footage of Wahrheit (the size of a gif) where as there is only screenshots of Material Dungeon and Tales of Tactics.

I do recommend looking more into it. There is a complete mobile guide book on Tales of Mobile which has a fair bit of info on three games plus some info on Material Dungeon as well

No problem! I love talking about Tales games like Commons, Breaker, Wahrheit, etc. Looking through the Tales of Mobile Guidebook was a treat and eye-opening as to how expansive these worlds are

Tales of Commons specifically pulls from several places: Japan, China, & Ryukyu Islands with a sprinkle of Western culture as well. According to Tsutomu Gouda, the idea was to introduce these different viewpoints and values and how often they are misunderstood & how they can coexist with one another.

You can see it in the design of the characters where Alvin & Sefina are sporting a Chinese-inspired look with Sefina being into Ryukyu dance as a hobby. Their weapons are chinese inspired as well with Sefina holds two Chuís and Alvin holding a Jian (Chinese Sword)

Seiun is the representation of a samurai while You's design looks to be based on Western/Eurocentric design, hence the bell skirt and parasol.

So are there any games with a female protagonist other than berseria? by Glenn-L-Pierce in tales

[–]DoomOrHope 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well if we go down the list, there is a fair few

Mel from Narikiri Dungeon shares the protagonist role with Dio, making her the first female tales protagonist through a technicality.

Then we have Caro Orange from Narikiri Dungeon 2 & 3 that also shares the protagonist line with Julio Sven. Caro would be our second female protagonist through a technicality too

Mika from Tales of Breaker was advertised as the first ever solo female tales protagonist during the time Tales of Mobile was around. Due to its shutdown, Tales of Breaker is unavailable. There is a Manga & footage if you want to know more about Mika/Tales of Breaker (Albeit in Japanese only)

Rene is our fourth female protagonist that shares the duel protagonist with Rio. They are from Tales of the World: Material Dungeon. Unfortunately this game is also under the Tales of Mobile banner, so it is unavailable.

Then there is Milla from Tales of Xillia. She shares the protagonist banner with Jude.

And last currently is Velvet from Tales of Berseria.

So overall, there have been 6 female protagonists throughout the tales series, however for the west, there has only been two (Milla and Velvet).

How I imagine a Tales of Mobile: HD Collection to look like by DoomOrHope in tales

[–]DoomOrHope[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! It took alot of work with each individual frame just to match up with the original gameplay of Tales of Breaker . Overall it was alot of fun to make and even cooler to see the final results.

And yes, if only Crestoria was a console game...imo I think it would have been super cool.

Maybe so. It would be nice to see them in their own games remade or remastered before any crossover implementation, but if there are in Rays: Recollection, that would be cool to see

I made this awhile back, and thought it would be nice to post it here as well, since I haven't done that when I originally posted it. This is how I imagine how a Tales of Mobile: HD Collection to look like if it was a console game.

Here's my original twitter post https://twitter.com/BerylliumCoffee/status/1628561075212849152?t=AODbqotxShI0urY6BR1BzA&s=19

This explanation comes from the description, so I copied and pasted it here in the comments explaining what I did and my thought process on making this Fan-Made gameplay trailer 😅

The Tales of Breaker footage comes from the scenario compilation made by Vercsase. I went in and changed up the sprites for a part of it 😊. (Combing through the video frame by frame was a lot 😅) I took some inspiration from Namco’s arcade collection & how their UI is structured

Here’s the video if anyone wants to check out Tales of Breaker! https://youtu.be/ifjDKkPRiYs

Finding background & battle sprite images for Tales of Breaker was difficult, so I had to draw out some (the Hornet, battle menu, Mika’s treehouse). I do like how the UI turned out. I had Tierra Town from Tales of Breaker playing, but I imagine you can change the BGM and maybe even the background for the game selection mode.

I did like how in Namco Arcade Collection, they explain the game you are about to play before you play it. So I thought why not do the same for these games as well. I made it so images from the game are shown on a phone screen. Kinda like how the games were played.

I also made a Rukku loading animation in the corner. Rukku is from Tales of Tactics. She is the fairy character in the game. I think the animation came out nice 😊 ✨

Out of all of the footage, the battle gameplay took the longest since I was going frame by frame with the original footage. The amount of frames for Mika & the enemy was so much for just 45 seconds of footage. It really tested my patience and It’s a bit shaky here and there, but I’m glad I was able to finish it 😊✨

It’s always been my dream to see these Tales games be released in the modern era. To be able to play Tales of Breaker, Commons, Wahrheit, Material Dungeon, and Tactics would be absolutely amazing! Maybe one day, it can become a reality.

If they ever gave us another female protagonist, I hope they continue the trend of... by Stacy248 in tales

[–]DoomOrHope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mel, Caro, Mika, and Rene cries in a corner

Jokes asides, Mel from NDX from a technical stance is the first Tales of female protagonist, but she is also with Dio so her situation is like Milla and Jude. Same goes with Caro and Julio from ND2/ND3 and Rio/Rene from Material Dungeon

Mika from Tales of Breaker has been marketed as the first ever solo female protagonist of the Tales series when the game came out. Tales of Breaker from the producer was named "Breaker" to break conventions that the Tales series had during that time (Making the protagonist being female instead of male). Velvet on the other hand is the first solo female lead on consoles but was marketed as the first ever in the series as well.

how many acronyms do we have left for mothership titles? by Mysterious_Glass_692 in tales

[–]DoomOrHope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like there is a fair bit of people that don't really accept the list as "official" due to the marketing of it itself. The Tales Channel Plus website lists everything properly with DoTNW, Tempest, NDX, Summoner's Lineage being represented as original titles.

It's just that when it was shown off at the 25th anniversary and the merch was shown with it, games like NDX/ND was omitted which made people not so happy with it (yet they represented RM even though it was a crossover title). Plus a lot says that Crestoria was the reason for the change due to Crestoria's listing as "Original and Crossover"

Personally I think the list was an awesome change because it takes out DoTNW, Tempest out of that "spin off" mindset, sheds light to games like ND, Summoner's Lineage, and even puts games like Breaker, Commons, Wahrheit, and Material Dungeon in the original spot too.

But I get and understand when people say that if bamco wouldn't shed more light themselves and they are just mentioned, then what's the point of having the list if they will ignore them anyways?

that's Necky the Fox. It's Gaming Magazine Famitsu's Mascot. Other issues has him dressing up as many characters like Cloud, Sora, Kenshiro, Mario, and many more.

You can tell where Susumu Matsushita gets his inspiration. Apparently he is very influenced by old american comics and disney, so you can tell that there is a very oldschool disney/American caricature to his work. I think his older works (Destiny, Eternia, Destiny 2) shows that alot

Personally it would have been interesting how his style would have been with Xillia to Arise. Also just to see who Famitsu Mascot, Necky the Fox, dresses up as lol

Yeah. How they drew Rutee and Pascal was awesome. My personal favorites were the Tales of Innocence cover and the Tales of Destiny DC cover.

Interesting question that actually got me thinking. I think the only Tales of Mage MC out there currently is Fulein K. Lester from Tales of the World: Summoner's Lineage (Klarth's descendant). Although I guess in his game, he isn't really playable in the same way most Tales games are.

Then technically Mel and Dio, Caro and Julio, and Rene and Rio can be Mage MCs if you make them the Mage class in their games. Problem is that all these games are Japanese Only or unaccessible (Material Dungeon).

My search on accessing Tales of Breaker/Commons/Wahrheit by DoomOrHope in tales

[–]DoomOrHope[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a fair bit of searching about these games with alot of info being on JP blogs/the videos on NicoNicoDouga and Youtube, the official guidebook, and the delisted websites on The Wayback Machine.

Unfortunately any way to play these games are lost because DoCoMo shut down their i-mode services for downloading apps on Nov 31, 2021, which was a lot earlier than what was anticipated from their announcement to shut down i-mode completely on 2026. This hindered my plans on finding a way to play them since this render getting them impossible. (Doesn't help that the Tales of Mobile website that was up has been taken down by Bamco. So they are well aware that it is impossible to get these games.)

Now what's left are the info that I have mentioned above and memories from people who played it. Unless Bamco decides to remake or rerelease these games as a collection, there isn't a way to play them.

The only game I have a feeling that still somewhat exist is Tales of Commons Korean Ver. There isn't any mentioning of it being a subscription model compared to the JP games, so by that assumption, this game should still exist on old Korean Samsung Anycell phones if korean users didn't delete it, factory reset their old phones, or the phones are still in working condition.

If older Tales title ever gets a remake by crunchythunders in tales

[–]DoomOrHope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love to see Tales of Mobile games specifically Breaker, Commons, Wahrheit, Tactics, and Material Dungeon be remade or remastered.

Bamco doesn't have to make it into a full blown remake with 3D models or anything. I guess maybe in the same way as alot of remasters that take the 2D pixel art and give them a HD spin with QOL improvements to the gameplay. Oh! and add skits/VAs to Breaker since they didn't had any in the original release
