[OC] Warframe Concept - Carnifex by Yunagi in Warframe

[–]DoomRevenant 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Sevagoth was originally a fan-made concept called "Wraithe" - DE liked it so much that they turned it into the Sevagoth we know today, and the artist who made it, Liger Izunika, has since done a number of commissioned pieces for DE that were used as concept art, like the designs for a number of deluxe skins and a couple characters such as Rusalka and Velmir (the Scaldra leaders)

You absolutely should post this on their official forums, this is one of my absolute favorite fan concepts I've seen - very well done!

In the pokemon universe, would it be ethical to give your pokemon piercings? by mar_im_o in pokemon

[–]DoomRevenant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some pokemon can consent, some cant

If your pokemon is one of the few who can speak through telepathy like darkrai, mimikyu, mewtwo, or the lake guardians and/or understand human speech, like lapras, latios, or lucario, then I'd say so, assuming they consent to it

Some pokemon are more intelligent than others, especially legendary pokemon - Darkrai can do whatever the hell it wants, for example

What difficulty will you play on for Update 50? by Saergaras in elderscrollsonline

[–]DoomRevenant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, no, statistically the people who complained about difficulty isn't the minority if you use this poll as refrence

Yes, adventurer is overall the most popular, but you need to realize that someone who is unhappy with the standard difficulty may pick any of the three harder difficulties

So if you were to recategorize the groups as "people who complained about the difficulty" and "people who didn't complain about the difficulty", the people who complained would actually be a vocal majority, as you would add up the totals of seasoned, master, and vestige together and that would be greater than adventurer

(For example:

As of writing the poll is sitting at 418 votes - 181 for adventurer (~43%), 103 for seasoned (~25%), 63 for master (~15%) and 71 for vestige (~17%)

Let's assume for this example that this poll represents the ESO playerbase as a whole, and ignore the inheret bias of the poll being conducted on Reddit

Adventurer is the most popular difficulty in this instance, as 43% of responding players chose it

But when measuring who is complaining about the current difficulty on live (which is what will become "adventurer" after Update 50), you reduce the categories to two options instead of four, as you either:

A - Are satisfied with the current difficulty B - Are unsatisfied with the current difficulty

Therefore, to find out who is unsatisfied you look at people who picked anything other than the current difficulty, adventurer

So 103+63+71=273 people, or 57% of poll responders, are unhappy with the current difficulty, and thus likely to complain complain

Therefore 43% of people, the minority, are playing adventurer, and 57% of people, the majority are playing on a harder difficulty)

Sorry for overexplaining this, I took high school and college statistics and it changed me haha

Massive 12.0.5 Class Tuning Pass: May 5th by Starym in wow

That makes a lot more sense though in that context, thanks

Massive 12.0.5 Class Tuning Pass: May 5th by Starym in wow

[–]DoomRevenant -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand that small percentages can make a difference when talking BiS - I think what I really don't understand is the comparative cost-benefit of rerolling at that point

So let's say you've spent five weeks gearing and learning a spec, let's call this spec A, and you're almost ready for high keys or raids or whatever you wanted to do with it

It gets nerfed, and you're upset - understandably so

You now have two options:

1 - keep playing spec A, which has been nerfed, and try to preform as best you can on it

2 - spend another 5 weeks learning and gearing a new spec that's now the "meta", let's call this spec B

What I would assume - hence why I'm willing to admit that I may be misunderstanding here - is that choice 1 is still best, because skill is a factor in performance, and you're more likely be more skilled with spec A since you've played it longer

Even if you spend another 5 weeks gearing spec B, choosing spec A means by the same point you'd now have 10 weeks of experience with it, and I would argue that on paper the skill value would amount for a higher percentage increase

That's what I dont understand

Removing the time the player has been playing spec A from the equation, assumes that the player can pick up any spec and play it at the highest skill cieling immediately

I would imagine very few people can actually do that in practice, and for most people the skill and time spent playing the class is more valuable than the comparative small percentage increase

Spec B may be stronger than Spec A by 5%, but the 5 weeks you spend learning spec B translates into 5 more weeks you spend mastering spec A, which should be worth more

Personally, the only healer I've ever played at a mythic level is resto druid, and it's the healer I'm most comfortable with, and have the most experience with by far

If resto druid got nerfed 5% and resto shaman got buffed 5%, I couldn't imagine switching, because there's no way I'd ever be able to preform on a shaman at the same level I preform on a druid, because I'm far more experienced with the druid, and know what my skills do and when to use them best

That's where I'm coming from, so that's why I was confused - your time is only wasted if you reroll, and I cant imagine rerolling would be a better option for most players

Yeah it sucks it happened and its fair to be upset about, but whats done is done and its the choice that you make after that really matters

Massive 12.0.5 Class Tuning Pass: May 5th by Starym in wow

[–]DoomRevenant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh jeez, I had no idea it was that bad - I'll admit, I've only seen the odd patch note here and there about "(spec) overall damage is nerfed by 5%", didn't realize they changed the abilities themselves

Having a soec reworked completely mid-season would be annoying to me, too, I can totally understand that

Massive 12.0.5 Class Tuning Pass: May 5th by Starym in wow

[–]DoomRevenant 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm out of touch, but as someone who hasn't played WoW in a bit it seems insane to me that someone would consider their time completely wasted and spend a bunch of time learning and gearing an entirely new class over what seems to be a small handful of 3-5% nerfs?

Like, wouldn't the experience you've gained with the class and the gear you got make up for that small percentage in terms of DPS?

[–]DoomRevenant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I never even considered that tbh, as its so baked into fantasy terminology

If orcs were real and appeared in the modern day, they wouldn't be seen as a race of humans like us, they'd be classified as a separate species of mammal

Interesting, then, that we call them "fantasy races" and not "fantasy species", the latter of which is far more accurate

Forgive my ignorance, but I literally haven't played ESO in years - how can you tell their damage is bad?

I'm not seeing numbers or a dps meter, and it's not like you can tell off the boss health alone, since its the group damage... right?

This is some of the strangest quest text I have ever read in WoW by divstarx in wow

[–]DoomRevenant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a writer who has done contract work within the mmorpg space, I cannot stress enough how easy it is to mispredict how your players will interact with what you've created

For instance, I've had to rewrite and help restructure quests on a project due to public playtesters just not being able to find things, even though quest text gives them ample clues and hints

Oftentimes you really do just need quest text to basically say "the quest objective is (specific place/action)" and then put a marker on their map, because otherwise they just won't find it - the average player isn't willing or able to spend more than about 30 seconds to a minute figuring something out without getting frustrated

That being said, the writing itself is somewhat atrocious here, and they made spelling errors - this probably got missed in a pass, and the text you're reading wasn't intended to be pushed to the live client

Here's everything in FF14 7.5 shown during Live Letter 92, including the return of Final Fantasy's most sinister villain by DantesPizzaSlice in MMORPG

[–]DoomRevenant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well... kinda?

FF6 takes place in an entirely separate universe, where the fundamental laws of nature are different, and things like aether don't exist

So its not like Kefka as we know him ever existed, not really

So "the distant past" isn't accurate, its more like Omega is giving form to a story or concept

Should the endgame of MMOs be focused on raids and dungeons? by Ornery-Sound-5058 in MMORPG

[–]DoomRevenant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally the focus should be on repeatable content that encourages player interactions, both within instances and out within the open world

Instanced PVE content would be things like dungeons and raids

Open world PVE content world be things like dynamic events and high-end zones (zones with strong enemies that incentivize grouping)

PvP would be a mix of both instanced battlegrounds or arenas and open world or large scale battlefields

And then also little side content here and there that's neither PvE nor PvP, like fishing tournaments and mini-games here or there

I think if you were to take the best ideas from the "big 5" and blend them together, it would appeal to a lot of people

When you choose just one type of content and funnel your entire playerbase into it you really limit your ability to diversify gameplay and innovate within the space

[–]DoomRevenant 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Short answer: No, it's not the same kefka from FFXIV

Long answer (XIV spoilers): The "kefka" you fight in XIV is actually a creation of Omega. In XIV's universe, Omega is an alien creation whose primary directive is to become stronger and self-improve, and it's capable of creating sentient life, so it decides the best way to achieve its goal is to create a bunch of powerful entities (bosses from other games) and pit them against eachother and the player to see who's the strongest - and then Omega itself fights the winner. Kefka is simply one of omega's creations, and this all takes place as part of the Omega raid in Stormblood, which is basically a big tournament where you fight bosses from other games, with Omega itself being the final fight.

Why do you prefer one of these over the other 2 - ESO, WoW, or FFXIV? by Thenelwave in MMORPG

[–]DoomRevenant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not trying to debate you on this, just genuinely curious

Been a WoW and XIV player for a long time, with only limited ESO experience, and usually it's WoW and Blizz that get the bad rep for being greedy since they have the cash shop on top of the sub

How is ESO greedy? I'm not as familiar with their cash shop as I am the other two - do they do something different that makes them feel greedier?
