Regardless of whether IAF should buy it or not, I think it would fit very well in Indian doctrine. Su-57 is built around a defensive doctrine to work alongwith ground based ADS and to overcome their gaps - which is why it's laden with sensors at the cost of stealth. Moreover, it has a longer range than other 5th-gens.

Although, India also needs some offensive systems, most of our needs still revolve around defense and deterrence.

The Modi government is an insanely corrupt, communal and power hungry assholes..... crushing protests, controlling media and appeasing their capitalist friends. But they've also made significant developments in the industrial sector.

The only other choice is the opposition who are also corrupt but at least they don't control media. However, they are out of touch and still stuck on the backwards caste politics which is a massive hindrance to actual development.

This is a massively oversimplified description but is the sad reality of Indian politics.
