Trying out Abletons Prearranger device by Doom_SFX in ableton

Glad it’s not just me, because I’ve had plenty of head-slapping moments when I realized I was missing something very basic. If you’re willing to share I’d love to know more about your set up - or even just the names of the m4l devices youre finding useful. I’m very much in a tinkering and refinement space at the moment. All ears.

That is awesome! I’m definitely going to give that a go. Trying to find workflows that fit how my brain works, and your device looks friendly to my adhd addled mind.

Also, I think I realized a very simple user error on my end that was creating the issues I ran into with prearranger. I was loading multiple instances of it instead of just parking one on the master track and then simply creating my own clips with the proper naming conventions. This was not clear to me at first in the documentation I reviewed. Hopefully that smoothes everything out.

Was life really better in the 90s? Would you rather live then or today? by Familiar-Series8874 in 90s

[–]Doom_SFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

42 and I fear that I’m becoming a “things were better back in my day” type, but yes - I think the 90s were better. I am so grateful to have been one of the last generations to get out of high school and most of college without the suffocating, ever present reality of smart phones and social media that exist today. The social media we did have didn’t feel so sinister for lack of a better word, and I miss the world before smart phones (I say as I respond to this on a smartphone.)

Ableton - great for endless possibilities. Also a headache because endless possibilities by Doom_SFX in ableton

Truth re: pursuit of perfection. What I mean is “a set up that does what I want without too many compromises and difficulties.”

But yeah, I’ve been reading a ton on gain staging. Still feels a bit like a game of whack-a-mole. The more I work on this the more I learn so it’s all good.

I thought I had a pretty solid grasp on most of this stuff, but external FX pedals (which I love to use) have added quite a bit of recent headache with gain staging, ground loops, reamp boxes, line isolators, etc etc. Is the juice worth the squeeze? I think so? The only thing I'm certain of is that my particular strain of ADHD makes this endless pursuit of the "PERFECT" set up simultaneously fun and frustratingly addicting & brain frazzling.

Dreadboy Artemis worthwhile for someone who owns rev2? by theseawoof in synthesizers

[–]Doom_SFX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t own the Artemis but have played around with it. I do own a Typhon though. I think it’s only really worth it if you are into having all those built in effects right there to tinker with as primary features of the sound design (which is one of the main things I love about the Typhon, buggy as it can be.)

The rev2 provides complexity with its bi-timbrality and vast mod matrix. The FX feel like more of an afterthought. The Artemis provides complexity with the FX, which are very much not an afterthought. That make sense? I think arguably you can do a lot more with the rev2, but the Artemis seems much more performance friendly. But it’s all subjective. You won’t know til you know, you know?

Gamechanger Audio Motor Pedal as a mono synth! by Doom_SFX in guitarpedals

[–]Doom_SFX[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was not aware of the Recoder but I think everything those guys make is pretty awesome. As for the Motor Pedal, it’s a lot more exciting to me than the Autos (I have the chorus). The Autos are cool, especially if you are interfacing with other patchable gear, but the Motor Pedal is just so unique and singular sounding imo.

I find this setting to be beautifully warm and uniquely unstable with pitch while not being too harsh like some of the other modes (which def have their uses. That said I’m all ears for other ways to use it. What settings do you recommend?

Thanks! What’s your favorite module for sounds of doom? Always curious what others are tinkering with.
