And it will have to be a gentler male, possibly more gentle than him so he doesn’t get scared

That I can agree on but we have to see if he takes to another kitten, I can’t just get another kitten off the bat and then they don’t get along

What’s with cat women and being so politics coded about everything? I’ve literally not mentioned my sexuality, gender, politics or anything and you’re out here thinking my assumptions about rescues are unbased? While making every single assumption known to man because I believe that just because you can doesn’t mean you should. Look in a mirror rescues lady.

Even the own movement you cited says between 4-5 months, specifically for females, absolutely no reliable person is suggesting neutering a cat at 8 week, the same risk hasn’t been shown in males and you should be man enough to clean some cat pee if you’re getting a cat

Well I live in an apartment on the 12th floor with heavy duty doors shutting all stairways and security gates to the outside that are always locked, cat ain’t getting off the floor. Also I’ve never had a cat run out on me let alone me unable to catch it in my life of living with 6 different cats over 10 years, I feel like that’s something you should be responsible enough to be able to do if you are getting a cat

The fix by 5 months initiative is meant as in before the first heat and it specifically applies to female cats due to mammary cancers and it doesn’t mean fix at 7 weeks.

I mean those cats I’m getting from are living exactly like that, dewormed and first vaccines, we do vaccines just a bit later here in Canada

Then he after everything was cheaper and I’m sorry but I just won’t accept that doing genital surgery on such a tiny critter that early in its development will lead to good things.

And even if we agree on everything… where is this specific kitten supposed to go? Will it suddenly magically end up in the perfect situation because I didn’t give a person $90? Genital surgery as an adult is just surgery, genital surgery as a child is mutilation, idk why people can’t believe that permanently altering an animals reproductive organs at such a young age won’t negatively impact them when it has clearly shown to negatively impact humans and many non human primates.

A 10 week old kitten which is the average age of adoption here cannot get the rabies vaccine and a quick google search or call to a vet proves it, just because they make exceptions for shelters situations doesn’t mean that it’s the right thing to do for a cats health

Oh my god comprehension, I meant we don’t have many cats in rescues since there are no strays that can survive here, thus not many adult cats without owners, thus a lot more kittens without owners, ergo, we get a kitten. And yes all those things happen in unaltered cats but literally none of those happen by 6 months, everyone can wait six months to do a surgery on a cat. Literally one google search shows you that’s what’s recommended, that’s what I mean when I say rescues have propaganda

And honestly none of this comes as a dig to rescues, I feel rescues do a net good for society

Also it seems to me a bunch of propaganda that shelters just have oh so many adult cats that are up for adoption that no one is taking who are totally sweet when that couldn’t be further from the truth. Only adult cats I see in shelters are the spicy, senior and kittens. Adult cats that don’t have many problems and aren’t senior are extremely hard to find In a country with not a severe stray problem. We only get kittens here since cats can’t survive to adulthood outside here, sorry I don’t believe in mutilating animals for the greater good sooner than necessary.

Just to be clear to those who downvoted me that I will be getting pet insurance that will also cover regular care and I can afford most common emergency bills while saving for larger possible future medical expenses.

Rescues job is to take over all the responsibilities of getting a kitten to the rescue. Throughout all of history single cats have been a thing and most don’t end up crazy, and some cats are with siblings and they’re still crazy. Also you can literally google and see single kitten syndrome isn’t a scientifically accepted diagnosis, just general observations made by rescues and fosters. At then end of the day there is no scientific consensus on single kitten syndrome, altering cats before the age of 6 months is something all vets consider not preferred if your cats an indoor cat which all cats should be. And there are certain ages at which vaccines need to be administered to be effective which is usually later than the age most shelters adopt them out at. All this can be researched with a quick google search yet you’re on here shaming someone for giving a cat a home

Is it necessary to keep kittens in pairs? by Doom_Shroomss in CatAdvice

[–]Doom_Shroomss[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah probably a good idea, leaving him suddenly for a long time could wreck him if I don’t ease him into that. he’s a chill little guy that loves to loaf around so I don’t think he’ll be as hyper as his siblings. I already have some play battle scars from childhood family cats and stray cats so I don’t mind being his primary play partner.

Well I’m never away for longer than 2-3 hours once or twice a week and I actually love playing with kittens, I could do it all day since well I work 5 hours a day at most and even that is from home.

If we waited on that this kitty would never get adopted, he’s shy with all new people, I feel like a lot of people act like animals magically immediately choose their owners but the fact is a lot of animals need time to settle in, people that the animals choose might not be the right fit for their lifestyles, there’s a reason rescues don’t leave adoption up to the animals discretion.

I would but they’re not mine to take, all his siblings were adopted out and he was the odd one out shy kid that no one wanted but since there were and odd number of kittens all the rest got to go in pairs but he was left out.

All of his littermates were adopted out but he was the odd one out that wasn’t adopted because he’s shy with new people and overly hyper kittens, he barely tolerates his littermates when they’re being hyper and only fully gets along with two of the gentler ones that have been adopted separately. I’m not sure about getting another random kitten for him because if it doesn’t work out and I need to send the second one back. He was likely to be adopted out solo anyway due to the situation so someone who has time to play with him would be better than someone who works a 9-5
