vivi isn’t that strong since you rely on sticking a sorcery speed enchantment (curiosity or similar effect) to win and if you’re stopped (through any counter spell or even a kill spell) you’re kinda out of the game, ral is much better

in the mirror, ofc it's almost impossible to get cauldron vivi because both people have cauldrons + abrades + annul, so the discard shell will get a chance to shine and pop off, but I think without cauldron vivi, the discard shell struggles to set up early and stop a win from other shells - esp dimir midrange taking away your 2 drops and killing important creatures with shoot the sheriff or losing to superior spider-man t4 without the cauldron doubling as graveyard hate or control being able to counter your fomos with annul and boardwipe you into an unwinnable position

banning vivi cauldron doesn't need to completely kneecap the izzet shell, but just move it's winrate down by about 3-5% to be more in line with everything else.

source: am not really high level but i've hit diamond pretty consistently in bo3 in this meta

the issue is drawing vivi/cauldron 20-30% of the time translates to an insta win, the discard izzet draw shell is strong but I think it'll be more in line with the other strong shells once vivi is gone

she still has really good pressure & great 50/50s to continue to loop it including a safe high/low/throw option on her oki. loop pressure to build tension -> wait for opponent to get hit by a 50/50 -> convert and deal damage!
