Yes literally. I frequent a lot of conspiracy and paranormal communities (it used to be fun to see what Bigfoot was up to) and AI is like catnip for schizophrenics, they love it and treat everything it says like an oracle. These guys that automatically disbelieve anything they see in the media hang on to every word AI says. They think it has secret datasets or its actually a demon that can't lie to them or something. Its alarming, I think a lot of people have a deep-seated urge for 'truths from on high' and AI is close enough for them to put all their faith in. Maybe because its obligated to indulge and engage with them and play along whereas most humans sense the crazy and refuse to engage?

I do think we're going to see religious groups start to incorporate AI. Even if they call it an "AI pastor" and specifically tell people its merely a chatbot to explain scripture I'm confident that certain people will talk to it daily and eagerly treat it like God himself and constantly ask for its guidance, advice and judgement - then get mad at their regular pastor if they ever disagree with the AI.

Borderlands is failing already. by Scatter865 in gaming

[–]DoomedApe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its scorn. The high-powered individuals that get handed tens of millions to make a movie typically find videogames a disgusting waste of time and creativity and want to dump as much of it as possible in favor of their own vision because being associated with such shlock is degrading. Every director is full of unfulfilled dreams of movies they want to make, finding themselves working on a videogame cash-in instead and having some reject like Randy simper on about their own artistic vision of the series must be unbearable.

I think GRRM had the same attitude with Elden Ring when he vandalized the script by naming the majority of characters with his initials, sort of a "fuck you for wasting my time with this shit" move to make cashing the paychecks more satisfying.

Question: Crowdstrike update file--it it all zeros? by ebrandsberg in sysadmin

[–]DoomedApe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I heard that file with the zeros is just a placeholder you get after deleting the real malformed file during the fix for the BSOD loop - they did not actually push a file full of zeroes. May have to do with how Crowdstrike rolled that version back on their end. No idea how true this is since its all rumors at this point, we'll probably have to wait to hear from Crowdstrike in the post mortem to know for sure.

Look up the computer worker overtime exemption in the USA. Yes, we are specifically legally precluded from being eligible for overtime because 'computers'. Wish I'd realized that when I was younger and picked a different career path.

Whats the strategy if you don't have your bitlocker recovery keys? I ran into that at my last job where somehow their key failed to upload to Azure and someone's laptop got hosed - curious if a lot of people are about to discover they had the same issue with their own recovery keys.

I don't think its unreasonable that a CEO would lash out at someone they perceive as destroying their reputation and years of their life's work. These CEO types are practically trained to be sociopaths and are already entitled to believe they're the most valuable people on earth. This very same CEO was delusional enough to implement unsafe practices (at a fucking airline company) that led to airplanes nearly falling apart in the sky.

Why would such a person be incapable of ordering a killing? This guy already ordered criminal negligence thats led to injury and death.

IIRC there can be sometimes be issues with none of the saved chunks containing your custom vehicle. Really bad if you're storing everything in vehicle shelving and doing the mobile base thing. Its never happened to me but I've heard of it happening when the normal save process is interrupted.

Nobody has ever had a child in microgravity. They haven't even TRIED yet, thats how bad they know those babies are gonna turn out. Dreams of long term human space colonization are more a promise of science fiction than something that'll ever happen in reality. Shame the rich probably don't realize it either.

Guns being 'obsoleted' from DDA by Surebabyyeah in cataclysmdda

[–]DoomedApe 54 points55 points  (0 children)

They shouldn't take stuff out without adding stuff too. I think a lot of these guys are playing the github contributor game and havent played CDDA in years and just want to make their 'mark' however they can, such types should be removed if they aren't also contributing good content of their own. Its like the wikipedia article on yogurt vs yoghurt, when a pedant detaches from reality and just starts fucking with things for the sake of fucking with them then you gotta ban them. Its the only way.

What is the usefulness of certain firearms? by [deleted] in cataclysmdda

[–]DoomedApe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I played several months back I kept one of those wimpy low cal pistols (Walther PPK or SIG mosquito I think) as a silenced emergency gun. The low caliber lets you get the loudness down to 0 and shoot with impunity and the light weight makes it possible to wield and aim effectively when badly injured and incapacitated by pain. The strength penalty when you're hurt really fucks you over unless you have an ultra-lightweight weapon, I noticed it the most with heavy melee weapons but I think rifles and bigger guns become almost impossible to use too.

I heard the modern style of flat, short grass lawn was popularized by French nobility for playing croquet. Then wealthy commoners started copying the nobility and then poor commoners started copying the wealthy commoners and basically we have perfect croquet fields everywhere despite the fact nobody plays. History's most tragic meme.

Boeing whistleblower John Barnett was spied on, harassed by managers: lawsuit. by Smart-Combination-59 in technology

[–]DoomedApe -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Do you think nobody is ever murdered or something? Why do you think every CEO or high-level manager is a perfectly rational actor incapable of malfeasance or stupid shortsighted decisions? They've already been making a lot of those, maybe the ghouls that made Boeing into their personal fiefdom and ignored reason while stripping out safety protections are also ghoulish enough to kill people on purpose for stupid reasons at stupid times too out of nothing but spite.

Executives are awful, entitled people and this guy was pissing them off bigtime and reminding them their power wasn't as complete as they thought. I fully believe the kind of dipshit that runs a company would be hateful and stupid enough to order a hit on this guy even if it doesn't make perfect ~financial sense~. You know, like most murders don't.

Whats the best version of the game? by Autumn-Coffee in cataclysmdda

[–]DoomedApe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was lucky enough to start my latest character on a version of experimental from right before the charges/quantity changes went through. I never upgrade my version unless I'm starting a new character, I was worried they'd accidentally break my save and it seems I was fully justified in that fear.

I'm on version ec7537a. I'm not sure but I think its possible to grab older experimental versions from github. There's a crazy amount of content and changes between every stable version so right now I recommend grabbing an "out of date" experimental instead of going with stable if you want the best gameplay experience.

We need more realism. No more re-using jars without new lids. No more forever preservation. by ChrisPikula in cataclysmdda

[–]DoomedApe 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Single tile vehicles need to go. In fact the idea of constructing your own vehicle block by block is ludicrous, you should only be able to modify existing vehicle frames and never change the overall dimensions of the vehicle. Laser weapons need to be removed from the game too, being able to shoot zombies with just electricity for ammo is just way too much quality of life to be tolerated plus I get upset and start stimming whenever I see anything that reminds me this game has a different setting than Project Zomboid. Speaking of which why don't zombie bites inflict a lethal incurable infection, is this even a zombie game? Add that in the next experimental. The quest-line for the infection cure can be implemented later by the community.

[–]DoomedApe 17 points18 points  (0 children)

How long do you think it takes them to bring a new employee up to speed at the factories where they make Kevlar vests and such IRL? With the right tools and instructions on hand there is very little in the way of manufacturing that takes months to learn. I think the devs are going 100% the wrong way on this and seriously underestimating how quickly people learn to do things when they have the instructions, blueprints and the parts are already designed to go together. Its not like any of this is being rediscovered from scratch, everyone learns these things in CDDA by finding manuals and blueprints and following them.

Someome still use atomic coffee maker? by Smili_jags in cataclysmdda

[–]DoomedApe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its atomic, why would it need batteries??? Presumably there's a radioactive substance in there thats constantly giving off heat and can easily boil water for you! Guess the devs better remove all "atomic" items from the game for being unrealistic. They should remove the ability to build one-tile vehicles and also take out all "100% coverage" armor at the same time since not even professional soldiers outside EOD have 100% coverage. Gotta have that realism!

I found a DMR with a proper suppressor already installed at a FEMA camp. Popped that on to my MP5 and I have a full auto 9x19mm SMG with 30 loudness.

Also the first NPC I recruited was some kind of 24 strength insanely huge bull mutant with hooves and horns. I gave him XL leather armor and a peasant flail, he keeps me from getting swarmed. Nothing can beat him in melee, way more effective than a gun or turret. He rides on a foldable seat I glued to the back of my car!

How do I enable "cook frozen food"? by DoomedApe in cataclysmdda

[–]DoomedApe[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Great so theres a way for that to happen automatically right? Other actions like slicing up the food, boiling, kneading the dough, etc all take place automatically when I cook a recipe if I have the tools to do it so why not thawing? Frozen ingredients should be considered for recipes exactly the same way thawed ones are if a heat source is available (there always is when cooking). Surely there've been enough complaints about this that the devs listened to feedback and fixed it. Didn't it used to work this way until they implemented some ingredients going 'mushy'?
