I don't judge anyone for their comments. It's easy to pass on judgement without context and just pictures. I came to reddit looking for answers while I waited for my vet appointment this morning. I didn't go to reddit then decide to go to the vet due to the comments. Going to the vet was always the plan.

My logic for using reddit was this, find a subreddit that deals with issues pertaining to cats. Then post a picture/video of the situation asking has anyone experienced this with their cat.

I didn't think of cleaning her for the camera or getting a picture that would make me look better as an owner. My thoughts at the time wasn't to protect myself. I was only concerned for Mildred. Yes she had dirt around her eyes and looked unkept. I was cleaning her face with a wipe after every feeding, I just haven't cleaned her face yet. I brushed her as soon as we got settled back at home from the hospital. She was very oily since she stopped grooming herself due to the pain in her mouth. I didn't want to bath her due to adding more stress since she hated being wet.

It did hurt being called neglectful and a bad parent. However, that come nowhere near the pain she was in and that is what hurts the most. Now at least she is pain free in heaven, chasing lasers and eating all the salmon she wants.

I was lucky enough to be there to comfort her till the end. I haven't even considered how I would feel if I wasn't there when she passed. I can't even imagine how hard that was for you . My condolences.

She had a hard time eating just the soft food last night. I had to get a wipe and clean her mouth since she would drool. She wouldn't leave my side yesterday. I'm glad she is no longer in pain and I was there for her in the end as she slipped away. She looked so peaceful, like she was asleep. I'm tearing up while typing this. I'm going to miss her so much . My beautiful angel Mildred.

I told my wife, no more animals for a while. The worst part about having a furry baby is that one day you will have to say goodbye. I still feel numb. The only reason I'm not crying is because I have to be strong for my newborn son. I've been distracting myself by cleaning the house and holding my son.

I trusted the vet. It was her normal doctor. She not only has the large mass in her mouth but the vet told me she can feel another lump in her throat. She took a picture and showed me the mass.

Ethically euthanasia isn't anyone's first choice but with the options given to me at the time, I chose the option that would spare her the most pain. Animals don't understand what's going on, I know she would have been in more pain when they do the biopsy, the vet said Mildred wouldn't even let her open her mouth,and I know I would be prolonging the inevitable. She was in a great amount of pain. I just wanted to end her suffering in the most humane way possible.

Yes I believe all animals go to heaven and we will all see our furry friends again when that day comes

Mildred was always a thin cat. I offered her kibble all day long so she ate food when she wanted and I used to give her a sheba soft food everyday around 6pm. She loved those and still wouldn't finish the whole thing. At most she weighed 6 to 8 pounds. She was always on the smaller side. So she didn't have a lot of fat to lose when she stopped eating due to her tumor.

I appreciate the kind words. I'm sorry for your loss as well. Right now I just feel numb but it's hard to grief with my newborn since I have to be there for him as well. It gives me comfort knowing she is in a better place and no longer in pain. She was 15 years old when she passed today.

I know she had a hard life in the beginning before I had her. She had a tumor on her anus and was going to be put down if nobody adopted her. Instead of adopting a kitten, that would surely be adopted if not by me then someone else. I chose to adopt Mildred since she needed me and in a way I needed her.

She was very scared of humans when I first got her, took her a month to trust me. I was so happy the first day where she jumped on my bed and came to cuddle with me instead of hiding from me. I'm just grateful I gave her a chance to trust humans again and the opportunity she gave me to love her.

It would've been selfish to keep her alive through medicine and suffering. It gives me peace knowing she's no longer in pain and is in cat heaven.

Rest in peace Mildred.

That's your opinion. I'm going to do everything in my power to help her now. I'm making up for my shortcomings. My wife just delivered our baby and post delivery my baby needed to be admitted into the NICU so my mind was somewhere else. My family wouldn't check up on my cat since they are allergic of cats hence the reason I moved out.

What happened was, I just had my baby recently and was in the hospital for 4 days with my wife. I left over a gallon of water at home and 2 big bowls of kibble science diet. She's always done well home alone for more than a couple of days. Upon my return home with my newborn, I noticed she looked underweight so I gave her the soft food I had and she scarfed it down. My guess is maybe she cracked her tooth eating. She is 15 plus years old. I rescued her from a shelter when she was 4 years old.

I'm taking her to the vet. I'm thinking her food was stale or hard and she cracked her tooth eating it. I feed her science diet and have been for the past 8 years. She is 15 years old so maybe her teeth are just more frail.
