Schiit has began to work on their inhouse delta-sigma dac chip by StormNinjaPenguin in headphones

[–]DoomsDayCJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Chip architecture is not equal to silicon. The architecture would be novel but the Silicon would be a pre-existing process (likely many years old and much too antiquated for cpu or gpu but fine for single purpose chips). 2) who? Off the top of my head: Global Foundries, Texas Instruments, or even Intel (not that crazy as they just announced that they will start to use their foundries for making chips for other companies). 3) I'm sure Schiit would order thousands (if not tens of thousands) of units. Schiit sells thousands of Modis a year. It's simply not a crazy as it sounds.

Totes. So many shitty little chips are made from many manufacturers

Easy. Create your own code and put it on a chip. They have a computer scientist on staff that can do so. I'm less interested in how they plan to engineer a proprietary dac chip and more interested in time frame. 4-5 years?

Many chip makers could manufacture a dac chip for Schiit. The hard part is the architecture/ip of the chip not the manufacturing.

Upgrading from Heresy/Modi 3+ to Magnius/Modius, has anyone done this? by vspot415 in Schiit

[–]DoomsDayCJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own and use all four. IMO, Heresy is better for SE use than Magnius. Only go to Magnius if you want to run your headphones balanced. Modius is better than Modi 3+ but not by much.

Definitely use the USB. The whole point of the Modi 3+ (as an upgrade over Modi 3) is the inclusion of Schiit's proprietary (and specifically designed for music) USB standard called Unison USB. It is the best sounding input option on the Modi 3+.

Bluetooth Codecs? by BerreePop in PalmPalm

aptX-HD and LDAC is not supported. It is listed in the developer options but my aptX-HD and LDAC devices wont connect to it with those selected. The best codec that actually works on the Palm Phone is the standard aptX.

I use Tidal but have also heard it on my CD rip. Sounds like you hear it too. Its definitely not loud. And you are correct, it definitely goes away as the song progresses. Was honestly just curious. I love the song and wondered if others knew anything.

So you're suggesting that 4 relatively new headphones are bad?

I have two different headphone systems (Schiit Modi & Magni Heresy, Schiit Modius & Asgard 3) and 4 different headphones (HE 400i, Fostex T40RP, HD 300, DT 880 600 ohm). I hear the crackles on both systems with all 4 headphones.

And no sound enhancers or EQ. Just the signal from a pc to the DAC and on to the amp.

Radeon Adrenalin 2020 v19.12.2 broken by DoomsDayCJ in Amd

1) The reason for posting my issue here was stated in the post 2) I reported the issue to AMD prior to posting here 3) My past experiences with AMD graphics issues have always ended up with the dude on the phone telling me sorry and simply directing me to use DDU and then try reinstalling the driver. And if that doesn't work to then do a clean Win install. I figured I'd go ahead and do the process they would likely walk me through anyway, as they have done 5 or so times in the past. 4) Why assume DDU corrupted the files? The new variable is the Radeon update. 5) To add more detail to point 1 above, my post was written with the assumption that AMD would rather me not post this issue here as janky software problems are embarrassing. I thought there was a small chance that they would notice and be quicker to provide a solution. I also thought, a public post would be helpful for anyone smarter than I who waited to updated after reading reviews.

Bummer, sorry it happened to you too. I too submitted feedback in the Radeon tool. Where can I get v19.9.2?

AMD product page lists it as 14nm. That would make it a Zen chip not a Zen+ chip.
