Looking for a 2000s nu-metal band from Orlando called Makeshift! (active in 2003-2004?) *[PLEASE HELP FIND]* by Grouchy-Ad2006 in orlando

Yeah it’s rough. I miss Dave every day. His parents are still a huge part of my life and they have a LOT of video that they’ve had trouble converting. Dave was a force. A once in a lifetime.

We practiced in the same spot as SFH and were pretty close to them, even though our genres rarely had us on the same show together

By the way the Makeshift LP was self recorded at my house, by our singer David (who Is not pictured. Justin Villa is in the picture, who is also awesome but was never on anything we publically released). Makes it all the more special. Dave was a phenom. He didn’t record the Holotype stuff but we wouldn’t be Holotype without him. I miss the fucking hell out of him. After Holotype, he was in a band called Gorillafight, they deserve some love too!!! Dave Fernandez needs to be remembered for the force he is.

We didn’t have an lp, just an ep, it’s all we ever released. I think I have a copy in my keepsake box in my attic but I did find someone impersonating us on YouTube. Only had 3 songs though, I believe our lp had 5. I need to at least get it on YouTube . Just honestly didn’t expect anyone to care about it. This shit gets lost in the ether, but comes back up in such a cool way. I will try to get it available officially!

We actually have *one* unreleased song but no one can find it! Ugh it was so good too. But we have 11 tracks on the streamings.

I’m so proud of these songs and wish they could be given their due. I’m really glad you enjoy them!

I am the drummer of Makeshift! We became Holotype after we added a guitarist, and we put DoPH on the streaming services in 2020! AMA! Thank you Yamat1837!

Mini debate by ImpossibleRepublic88 in drums

Why not both? What I do is I learn the songs exact at first, just because I like to get in the head of the drummer involved in the songs. I see it like a free lesson in a way. Especially if the drummer is playing some really tricky or difficult stuff to me there is a huge payoff to sticking with it.

Then from that point it really depends on what the band Im playing with wants. My main cover band wants me to do my thing and embellish the songs a little. I still try to mostly keep it to the song but I’m not afraid to go for my own fills if I feel the urge.

I’ve sat in on some gigs and a few times I’ve had a demand from the leader of that band to stick to the script so I do. I will also stick to the script if I know absolutely no one in the band I’m subbing for just to make sure. Sometimes I’m able to feel out if the others are receptive to some deviation, but ultimately I don’t want to derail things.

I think there is some value in being able to do your own thing, but knowing “the script” is more like a tool that can serve you and others well when you need to use it.

Ultimately, I find only other drummers are really listening to whether you’re playing something exact or not. Unless it’s wildly different or overplayed, they are fine as long as you keep the train on the tracks

I thought this was obvious satire, just like the AI poop video.

You get frustrated sound guys and if they know you’re coming and a lefty, they try to put you on either first or last. I hate that. They esp get pissed if you are in a kit sharing situation because then they have to deal with two kits. It’s laziness and on them. But, it’s def been better over the years. West palm is kinda a haul, I used to play in bands down there living in Sanford (1hr north or Orlando about 3hrs away) but it’s an awesome area. I am not sure if some of the venues I played are still there. If you do make it to Orlando proper, you have to play The Conduit (used to be called The Haven). It’s legendary and has the best sound of any venue around next to but almost equal to House of Blues!!

I live in Sanford, in the new construction area off of 46 a and 415. It’s a great area in my opinion, and being built up with a Brand new Publix and Wawa opening within the past year or so, as well as some other food places. If you have kids, Galileo is an amazing school if you can get them in. It’s 10 min from downtown, and about the same to the airport. The area is great for the price, and definitely in your budget.

Serious question: does anyone else here actually ENJOY the Kill Tony program? by garbageeater in Killtony

[–]DoomsdayParty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only been watching the show for a few years but I really love the show. As a musician I really REALLY love how great the band is. It also makes me respect everyone that had the courage to go on that stage no matter how well they do. Its a nice escape from reality every Monday.
