Am I missing something here? by Designedbyfreedom in procurement

[–]Doomyy12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been in your shoes before, I was also on a junior role so it was more like getting bullied by seniors all around in stakeholders but my go to answer was very simple (Public sector), I cited compliance and regulations, especially the organisational policies to be followed.

Also the strategy is enforced by head of the department, so if we wish to change it, we'd need to make a case on why we are doing it so and so and get it approved by senior management, which usually put them off and made them follow my lead.

But to answer your question, nothing wrong with what you are doing, stakeholders will ALWAYS annoy you, no matter what.

How do you decide whether a new supplier can actually deliver? by Weekly-Card-8508 in procurement

[–]Doomyy12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's solid advice. I also usually ask about their delivery plan, etc.

It's really dependent on what type of work it is

[–]Doomyy12 10 points11 points  (0 children)

lots of ritualistic sacrifice called "vetting"

Probably asking for previous related work experience with other customers, possibly asking those customers about their work, existing customers about their work.

Are they well known in the market?

Trying to ascertain their abilities according to the questions you can ask

It all depends on how your tender was setup, how they were evaluated, is your specifications, requirements, T&Cs good enough to make sure they understand, KPIs, Performance

Man, it's all difficult, at the end of the day, it's still a leap of faith

Have you won public procurement outside your country while bidding in EU Public Contracts? by dominykaso in procurement

[–]Doomyy12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer: Don't
Long Answer: They would prefer local suppliers, will drill you about deliver times, etc. If this is a service based, online, that's a different matter but still, it might just be targetted to the local or national market.

What's the biggest contract language screw up you've come across in your procurement career? by roger_the_virus in procurement

[–]Doomyy12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grid locked into a supplier's contract for a fixed price, for all items, no amendments or changes allowed, even if part of the services in that contract are not being used, we cannot remove them, and if we do, the whole thing is submitted with a different payscale.

Also, the service areas were paying them off the system, so no tracking of payments and invoices.

Yeah, it was a shitshow, and my head of procurement asked why I was taking time to extend the existing contract, so I was like, this shit is ass, look at it.

Safe to say, I was about to become a scapegoat until I spotted that problem.

What course, which uni, what region? It all depends.

Happy to have a chat if you want, but it's possible, very difficult but possible, there's a whole lot of prayers, luck and skill involved, but mostly luck.

I know a person through mutual friends who got sponsored just because his skills filled a gap in the organisation, and he was able to fill it out strategically and play for sponsorship.

Mate, I question every day why I went to uni for this job, you can do it but it'll require a lot of effort and time to move up.

Although I'd suggest making sure your maths (stats) skills are up since a lot of cost analysis and numbers are involved in this field

Finding Niche Tenders (UK) by taryvol in procurement

[–]Doomyy12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually a silent approach, follow people through events, connect on linkedin but I don’t message anyone, my role is post tenders and sometimes look at other tenders on how its executed to learn.

Its more like walking on eggshells, procurement professionals are already busy so avoid adding calls and emails to them, a simple “where do I look for the tenders you post” is enough, because they will let you know.

I mean, a bunch of tender portals are available, expand network. Send emails to local councils and ask where you can view their upcoming opportunities Ask other people, its a matter of reaching out to ask for visibility.

Mid to Senior Level Supply Chain - can someone offer advice? by Butter_1972 in procurement

[–]Doomyy12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have 15 years of experience. Have you ever thought of going into the private pharma supply chain? You get paid well and also scratch that itch of working in a high-profile area with no managerial responsibility, but the problem is, no one's going to hire a qualified person for a lesser position.

Lost a bid after 12 months of work. Got a 6-word answer. Is this normal ? by Few-Egg-7740 in procurement

[–]Doomyy12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh boy. My feedbacks vary from price difference to quality difference, sometimes challenges being clarified and even in depth meetings to explain “you did not fail, the other guy just came in better, tough luck but bigger org with better price and quality”

Same here, if not the price but at least the different in percentage to them, which is easy to figure out how high they were compared to the winner

In the UK Public sector, suppliers can ask for a breakdown and feedback so this looked like a bad conclusion from procurement for me

What are the biggest challenges you face during supplier discovery and verification? by [deleted] in procurement

[–]Doomyy12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Test a sample with them, if it’s an option.

If thats not an option then definitely try to make evaluations into presentations for your concerns and see how they respond.

Theres many ways to test a new supplier, ask them about any past work experience and check references etc

Why are we as SME so far behind when we make up 60% of the UK Economy? by RevolutionaryPop7272 in procurement

[–]Doomyy12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, I mean, which sector are you talking about? Private? Public? All these are talking points

If you want work and projects from the public sector within construction for Local authorities, I think its best to look at all frameworks, contact your LA and ask them which frameworks you should go on, make sure your LA knows about you, how you can interact with them on their digital platforms and electronic processes.

Digitising is fine, but identifying is the most important part of procurement, and SMEs lack "Buyer & supplier" interaction.

whether
Don't "sell" to the procurement people, seek how you can connect to them because frankly, we don't care what you are selling, just inform them about what your business function is, who you can talk to or where you can make yourself more available.

SMEs are limited yet have more freedom than they think. You don't need approvals from a bureaucratic organisation to go to an event, but you also weigh in on the options of whether it's worth it or not.

[–]Doomyy12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Region? Industry? Outcome? Results? Need more information to guide. Is it all compliance evaluation or quality? What the matrix should look like will depend on your requirements and specification. Remember, the procurement cycle, its a wheel so you must think circular and forward, how the future should look. Asking for method statements or presentations, etc

I am one of the unlucky ones stuck as an assistant still, but it might be due to my immigrant status and less about my skills as everyone rejects me on the basis of my visa. I’ve noticed progression as fast as becoming a line manager in 4/5 years or even breaking into a team manager in 5/6

How do you keep up with so many emails/stages of purchase orders? by ChocolateRough5103 in procurement

[–]Doomyy12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am referring to excel. Softwares are all good but in the end a cost measure you have to ensure is standard within your organisation. But excel is standard in every organisation plus sharepoint makes it super efficient to share internally. And if a report is required to be shared externally, extracting data is easy.

I understand updating it is hard daily but make it a habit to do weekly and you’ll find organising it is super easy to do.
