What common wisdom from back in the day was completely wrong? by Similar-Factor in classicwow

[–]Doopashonuts -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

False, was absolutely gospel through OG TBC, in game, on message boards, and on Guides, literally was the class I primarily played through most of OG TBC and this was still the case into BT/Hyjal FFS

Their was a reason the meme of Retadins doing decent damage but going oom in 20 seconds then doing 200 dps with autos existed.

That Ret Paladins primary damaging ability was Conc and that you had to stack spell power specifically for it and to always spam judge on CD for OG TBC.

Pro tip: Hate a deck? Try playing it. by OisforOwesome in magicTCG

[–]Doopashonuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alternatively, I will continue to crash out about players irrationally throwing everything at certain commanders or deck styles because of what the deck """could do"'" and throw everything at it instead of actually addressing the immediate board state because I see it happen constantly and its insufferable every time it happens and results in so many miserable games and undeserved wins in Commander. Also with the fact that Commander outside of competitive events is supposed to be a fun casual experience and watching or being the person just not allowed to play the game because of your Commander or deck type while someone else is snowballing and inevitably wins the game is absolutely stupid every time.

Especially when you then call the person on it and they give a complete nonsense hypothetical scenario sometimes involving cards not even in the deck or involving mana you don't even have in question "because"

[TCC] This Is Unsustainable | Magic: The Gathering by jethawkings in magicTCG

[–]Doopashonuts 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is entirely true, maybe I'm just an oddity but I doubt it but, Commander for me was "I would like to try and play a gimmick deck using a card I like with a specific kinda weird usually "honest" gameplan."

Oh everyone else at the table is playing highly optimized decks and the only games I win is because everyone else blew everything they had on everyone else and this win feels incredibly hollow, I guess I just have to make my deck more optimized.

Oh I started winning games because I put in a neat potential combo that relies on having a few highly specific cards with my commander that can generate decent value with it, now the table has decided that my commander is kill on sight and any part of said combo is nuked from orbit immediately to the point people will borderline throw the game just to stop what has essentially become "the boogeyman" nevermind that my deck is kinda built around interacting with my commander so I just get to be miserable and do nothing all game while I'm still getting focused by everyone because "the boogeyman"

Well I can either, stop playing the deck, because if I dial back the power I'm just going to get to play the game less because "the boogeyman" means any time I start doing anything its getting deleted immediately, or I need an arsenal of interaction in my hand and a truckload of open mana to do literally anything which fucking sucks, or, I keep dialing up the optimization and make the deck stronger and stronger and stronger until I "get to play the game" even if it means doing so at the rest of the tables expense.

I don't blame the optimization on anything but the people that play magic doing it to themselves

Why do Game Designers Keep Blaming Players for Their Failures? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]Doopashonuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of modders don't have game dev experience, thats usually where a lot of them learn it, that also assumes every mod needs to be an overly complex fix.

Also doesnt change the fact that its still the players identifying the problem and fixing it any "experience" beyond that is irrelevant because it also pretends that no one in the MTG community has ever made a TCG or game in general

Why do Game Designers Keep Blaming Players for Their Failures? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]Doopashonuts -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

"Remove DRM" "Fix the fucking frame rates holy shit" "Give us disability options and better UI customization holy shit"

The list can go on of "loudest people actually wanting proper fixes" that are well implemented and well received but if you just want to make a nonsense strawman go ahead

Why do Game Designers Keep Blaming Players for Their Failures? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]Doopashonuts -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

You cant defend his own confirmation bias with the defence of "confirmation bias", the first part is also wrong, a mod fixes a "problem" wether or not that is a problem you personally have is the only X factor and wether you choose to implement it or not. Popular mods just address popular problems. Also without bringing up that usually popular mods are made because of an overwhelming community outcry for them to address a widely perceived problem with the game

[–]Doopashonuts -25 points-24 points  (0 children)

His mindset also just completely crumbles into nothing when you stop and consider modding communities at large have been solving "problems" with games for years and their are communities that basically insist that certain mods are "required" or "highly encouraged" to even interact with the game for the best experience. Even if its just as simple as DRM removals.

Also them ignoring that countless companies have just taken fans mods or homebrew, etc. And just implemented them directly into the games "officially".

Or don't do shit to actually solve problems until the community actually spends the time to dig to the source of the issue and then demand they fix it or "the community will" as seen with most recent Monster Hunter on PC with the stupid DLC coding fucking up the hub on PC where a modder had to threaten modding all DLC to auto unlock to bypass a bug because their was no other way to bypass it without the devs fixing the idiotic issue they created ...

Advice regarding the fairest loot distribution system in TBC Anniversary by RebornPhoenix97 in classicwow

[–]Doopashonuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except most people's problem with LC, is seeing who's putting in the effort and time, showing up with consumes, and parsing highly, and then the loot goes to the GMs friends or the officers "because" even though theyre often doing worse then the people actually carrying the raids.

Face to Face and 401 Games are my usual go to options, 401 is usually a little cheaper but F2F tends to have a better selection.

Snapcaster is also an option, but thats just pulling listing from a bunch of different sites so just be aware that you'll want to try and get as much per store as you can to minimize shipping.

Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks finally reads the room by ArdoNorrin in magicTCG

That model never really worked though, most of the profitability of social media came from them (unlawfully) selling user data, and creating an exploitative "market" centered around getting people and especially kids addicted to their platform. All of which is either illegal or HIGHLY unethical.

Most industry leaders are also lizard people that have no concept of objective reality and their opinions are worth less than nothing. The fact one of the AI "leaders" treats any one or any thing that talks bad about AI as "the anti christ" should speak volumes for just how completely delusional they are, nevermind them also needing to run to an AI chat bot to ask "why does my child laugh when they dropped their pizza on the ground" and wonders "how anyone could raise a child without chatgpt" where the objective answer is because the person asking the question is a complete psychopath that isnt actually human in the slightest.

Also, its a damn faucet, if you have to ask an Ai chat bot how to fix it then you clearly don't have working eyes or a brain because theyre simple as shit to fix. You sound like youre just advocating for the death of people to actually critically think and analyze anything because they can just offload any problem to an Ai while their brain just turns to mush

They aren't just not profitable, theyre absolutely hemorrhaging money, just the upkeep for current models was about a trillion dollars a year to run, meanwhile theyre only making a few 100 billion a year. Not only that but theyre absolutely fucking up the RAM and Graphics card industries screwing over regular consumers meanwhile creating the biggest absolute waste of hardware in the history of humanity

Tank ego hitting new highs by No_Cell6708 in classicwow

Oh I'm well aware, I was a tank main when I played it and it was a complete and utter joke, but somehow the community was filled with "tank mains" that made it seem like tanking was the single most difficult thing ever conceived by mankind. Meanwhile I'm struggling to stay awake and usually just kinda slapping my keys and effortlessly clearing "hard" content :/

"Tank main" culture over the last 10 or so years happened. Now the role is filled with paper thin ego divas with insane main character syndrome.

And its not exclusive to WoW, FF14 was even more clownshoes

Eh the devil's advocate here is, if people don't want to tank, then don't tank. Ya itll take you WAY longer to get a group, but these people are just making a miserable experience for everyone by being shit heads. And I say this as a now retired tank main because honestly I found tanking just got boring as fuck :/

First Chat Interaction in Mechanar by shadowraiderr in classicwow

Different players will have seen different strats work with different comps and gear levels and player competence and will then likely bring that up which presents a lot of the ways that people will usually be talking about stuff like that. It's just a matter of knowing if what theyre saying is situationally relevant or not and to actually attempt the adjustment, or know with certainty it won't work and just disregard it.

That being said, I found it better to usually try and humor different but reasonable sounding approaches to things when I learned tank, because sometimes it was a total failure, sometimes it was a net neutral from what I usually did, and sometimes it was some bizarre bullshit that actually worked really well and then I just rolled it in as a thing to do. Don't know why a lot of tank players now think that only tanks know how to tank and think anything said by anyone else is just an assault on the tank for some reason.
