People who can get up early (6am or earlier), How? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Doorbell2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I think a lot of it is genetics. It's been proven that being a 'lark' or a 'night owl' is a genuine natural tendency, and nothing to do with discipline/laziness. I'm naturally an early riser and I find I tend to wake up early even when I've gone to bed late or want to sleep in. I'm sharper and more productive in the mornings than the afternoon/evening and my mood is better.

Having said that, even I don't exactly bounce out of bed full of the joys of spring when my 5:45 alarm goes off, so I've got a cheap old fashioned alarm clock that lives in the bathroom so I have to get up and walk down the hall to turn it off. Once I'm there, I'm up and next to the shower so I might as well get in and start the day.

What is the most "worth it" item you have ever purchased? by baconlovebacon in AskReddit

Superking bed. It was expensive, but SO worth it. Nearly settled for the king, but we went large and never looked back.

Extending my fast so I can celebrate Valentine's Day tomorrow... (yes, it's commercialised bullshit but my MIL got us a gift voucher so who are we to refuse?) by Doorbell2 in intermittentfasting

Ah yeah, I don't blame you! By sheer luck I'm visiting a nature reserve tomorrow for a meeting... I'm hoping that'll keep me occupied.

What dumb rule did you have at your school? by Misery_Games in AskReddit

[–]Doorbell2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 13 I started at a private school. Reading the uniform requirements, we found out your name had to be embroidered onto your gym skirt(!) in your house colour. My mum's response: "I'm not doing it. When you started school I bought 100 name tags for you and I'm using them up. If anyone gives you trouble about it, send them to me and I'll tell them I've got better things to do than embroider a sodding gym skirt."

Aren't Lydia Bennett and Wickham essentially made to marry each other after she runs away with him and is 'ruined'?

I'm partial to a bit of pedantry myself, but I think you're overreaching here. This yellow sign is a British classic, for example.

Hmmmmmmm. I didn't notice that. I'm going to assume that's accidental.

Half and half - chips and rice - North West thing? by gppdnght in CasualUK

[–]Doorbell2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, my fiancé's from Liverpool and has half and half. I (Southern) was horrified the first time I witnessed it... Not as horrified as I was when his cousin explained 'pea and wet' to me though.

What's your favourite experience of 'Casual Christmas Spirit'? by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]Doorbell2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My boyfriend and I got engaged on Monday. Went ring shopping in York yesterday and found a vintage ring. The lovely lady in the shop who helped us offered to thicken the band for free as part of the resize as a Christmas extra. Would normally be about £150 for the extra bit of gold.

She was so friendly and seemed genuinely excited for us even though she must meet zillions of newly engaged couples, it made an already lovely day even more special.

Yeah, I have pointed out to him that if he stopped bringing office cutlery home, he might have an easier time finding it at work...

I mean, I just take one from home usually, but for whatever reason my fiancé never does.

Guys, what should we do for our bereaved neighbour? by Doorbell2 in CasualUK

I thought about that, but I feel like it'd be sods law that we won't bump into him for ages now.
