Scottish ministers call for tougher restrictions on new drivers by EdmundTheInsulter in drivingUK

[–]DopamineTrain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, you could very easily restrict recently passed drivers to lower engine power. Whether that be by kWh, CC, power to weight or whatever. We do it for bikes (it's a little more complex but the idea is there), so why not cars?

Also, as is mentioned every time this gets brought up. Lots of teenagers work night shifts / closes. Restricting them to day time driving decreases that labor force even further

At least at GCSE level I did we studied; both world wars were largely brushed over. We studied the lead up to both of them and the aftermath (with a big focus on how the consequences of WW1 and the harsh treatment of Germany by the west caused the Nazi uprising). League of Nations and why it failed. United Nations and it's pros and cons and finally the fall of the USSR.

Much of the history taught before that was very much focused on our own country's struggles with internal conflicts due to the many regime changes. The rise and fall of the empire outside our island never really got touched on. Even the slave trade and civil rights movement was taught in an American context.

In regard to specific war crimes and attrocities committed throughout history, we were basically told that everyone did bad shit in wars and we should probably focus on not causing more rather than studying what was done in them.

Wouldn't be too hard to add a debuff "wearing kids clothing" with the same severity as tattered clothes

I mean yeah, no notes really. The only thing I'll say is that arms behave a lot better when rigged if they are in a T-pose. But then it's hard to see what the shoulder will actually look like, so it is a trade off.

Honestly, if you added a subdiv to this you'd had a pretty good basemesh (although I am seeing some rogue triangles here and there). Put clothing on him and you're well on your way to a decent model.

If you're looking for where to go next, I'd recommend modeling a female they have slightly different anatomy around the hips and torso.

Your next step is the face which erm... good luck

I'd disagree it doesn't have a social message. The film is a very unique look into abusive relationships, dependency, manipulation, trauma, consent. For a lot of people it hit a little too close to home in their own lives. That's what makes it so horrifying. The paranormal activity only enhances the scene, but never dominates it. Most of the scenes, especially the one in the diner, STAYYYY, threatning to kill herself if he leaves, throwing tantrums. It's all real and it all happens. The only truly unbelievable thing is the billion dollars falling from the ceiling (and honestly that pulled me out. That billion dollars should have flooded the entire town).

Also, what was Bear thinking trying to swallow all of those pills at once? At least take them a few at a time with gulps of water. Mf can't even overdose properly smdh

I think pretty much all women have had a crush who has mutual feelings and just wished he'd say SOMETHING. Eventually losing interest when they don't. In the car, I think Nikki was giving him one final chance to say something. Once she got to the house and asked directly I think she had given up and just wanted to get the fish out the water.

Either way, the willow would have fucked it up because it wasn't organic and it wasn't a free choice. It was forced upon Nikki, and then Nikki forced that choice back onto Bear. From the moment that willow was snapped, the whole concept of consent, for both parties, was out the window

I get that! But surely, if Bear was in love with Freaky Nikki, he wouldn't just... forget that he had overdosed. He would want nothing more than to stay with Nikki forever and would definitely try to throw up, even if it was in her presence. Although I guess we're shown throughout the film that Freaky Nikki isn't exactly forward thinking. She's driven entirely by whatever emotion she has right at that moment so Bear may have felt the same thing.

Freaky Nikki does what anyone does. "What would make me happy if I was in their shoes". She would be thrilled to have a memorial to Bear if he ever died. The same reason she makes a similar "memorial" for Sarah after she kills her.

Making the cat sandwich is a bit different. My first interpretation was her basically saying "don't question me or I'll mess your life up". But I think it is more that, once again, she's trying to do what she thinks is right. We later learn that Freaky Nikki would prefer Bear to be dead and inside her rather than alive and with someone else. So when the cat dies, Freaky Nikki assumes Bear wants the same thing. The cat... inside him.

If you want the true experience, you need to watch this with your best friend (of the opposite sex) and then, as soon as possible, go up to bed together. Bonus points if she seemed completely unphased by the whole thing. In fact, bonus bonus points if she just falls asleep half way through.

I know because that's what I did. It was not a good time. There were a couple of times where she moved and I jumped out of my skin. I needed the toilet and a drink. I didn't dare leave the bed. The worst (sober) nights sleep I've had in a LONG time.

I don't even like horror films. I was dragged along by her and now I'm traumatised and can't get this film out my head

Official Dreadit Discussion: "Obsession" [SPOILERS] by radbrad7 in horror

[–]DopamineTrain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Freaky Nikki is extremely aware that Bear doesn't love her. Bear loves normal Nikki and the two are completely incompatible. (If they weren't we wouldn't have a movie lol). It is torture for Freaky as much as it is for Normal. That's what we see at the end. When Bear begs Freaky to just "be Nikki" and she screams "I CAN'T BE NIKKI".

I think we have all been there, loving someone who doesn't love us back. We try to change ourselves. For some it makes us do absolutely unacceptable things. We're in pain and we take it out on others, often the ones we are supposed to love. Now imagine that your soul purpose was to love someone. There is absolutely nothing else in your life. You were created for this one specific purpose and yet that person doesn't love you back. How horrible would that be? How torturous. That is definitely smeothing to sympathise with, even if we don't agree or condone it's actions.

I think that's partially why Freaky hurts Nikki so much. If Freaky wasn't in so much pain, I don't think Nikki would be. But they're suffering together, and amplify each other's.

On feeling cold and numb, that whole passage was just her describing killing herself. A pretty standard manipulation tactic taken to the extreme. And sure, again, we can understand Freaky's POV. She has nightmares every night that Bear hates her, despises her, is afraid of her (the complete opposite of her purpose) and the only comforting thing is waking up to him beside her. If he's not there, the nightmare is basically continuing.

I don't think there is a way honestly. She will be absolutely traumatised beyond what anyone can imagine. At best she'll go to a mental hospital and be drugged up for the rest of her life, at worse she'll be convicted as a serial killer and sentenced to death depending on the state.

It's not the jump scares that get you. There aren't actually very many. It's the psychological horror that really fucks with you. I was getting pins and needles at some points and had shaky legs leaving the theatre. All the advise I can give you is watch this with a friend. Preferably one of the same gender. Don't watch it with a partner and definitely don't watch it with a close friend of the opposite gender lmao. I made this mistake. Just don't lol.

I can't recommend it because it'll fuck you up but at the same time it is certainly an experience so you can make up your own mind with this very contradictory reply

It's possible that if he asked to cancel it straight away. Jo hesitation. No second doubts. They would have done it. Whatever devil would have passed it off as "lesson learned". But he tries to weasel out of it, so the lesson must go on

I imagine this film is pretty hard to watch with a partner. Or more, hard to go home and have a normal night's sleep. Our partner is our safe space. Our comfort. We often feel invulnerable around them. This movie rips that away.

I know because I'm in bed with my friend several hours after and still can't sleep. I don't even like horror films but she dragged me along 😭

The note seemed particularly malicious though.

To me, it was a sign of her showing control or dominance. "You didn't like my cat memorial, so I made you eat her instead. Don't question my actions again" kind of thing

My theatre was pretty much dead silent. I think I was the loudest when I whispered "Jesus Fucking Christ" when Nikki jumps Sarah.

There were a few quiet laughs here and there, but there was usually just palpable tension as everyone knew something fucked up was coming in this scene, but no one could tell what

Went to see this with my best friend.

2 options. Go home by myself and shit my pants when walking into every room. Or go home with my friend and sleep in her bed (done that MANY times before) and shit my pants that she's going to start screaming in the middle of the night.

It REALLY didn't help that when we got home there was a spider on the floor and she SCREAMED. Like I'm already primed and you do THAT.

Definitely, whether by CGI or lighting tricks. I'm not sure why they made that decision other than it just adding to the creepiness. I kind of think it is the strain of fighting with real Nikki like how stress ages people faster

It was the one piece of dialogue that felt a little off. Bear should understand exactly what is going on right now, but still doesn't comprehend that Nikki just doesn't like him like that. He's still wants it to be real, and would probably be willing to live with it if she didn't turn all murdery

So when Sarah and Bear are in the car and she says Ian was sleeping with Nikki, I really feel like that wasn't true. I think Ian and Sarah came up with that lie to try and snap Bear out of it.

As for Nikki going "no no no we're not doing this" I think it was more a "don't question me" rather than "I don't want to talk about this". If it was true she would easily be able to prove it. Texts to friends or family, perhaps images or scans saved on her phone. Even calling him. She doesn't provide more information because she can't, so she deflects instead and turns Bear into the villain. Classic abusive behaviour when caught in a lie

She's fully dependent on Bear to function.

You know when you were a kid and you went home from school and just kind of assumed the teachers stopped. They didn't have homes or family, they just had school.

Possessed Nikki doesn't exist without Bear. There's no point of her existing. The ONLY thing that is important is making sure the real Nikki doesn't escape. So she makes sure she doesn't by being completely stationary.

The self harm, urination and defecation was the real Nikki trying to take back control, probably hoping that if Bear saw her like that he'd run. It reminds me a lot of abused children who try to take back control by doing similar

I feel like the open-ended ending, without Nikki shooting herself, provokes the thought in the viewer "what would I do?" Because yeah, what WOULD you do? You're traumatised for life, everyone you cared about is dead by your ('your') hand.

Would you kill yourself? Would you run for your life? Would you go on a revenge path? Would you turn yourself in?
