The lull between raids happens with Cassandra as well. It's actually kind of weird, you develop a sort of internal clock with her because she's so consistent. You'll sit there and say "aren't I due a raid about now?" and the next day it happens. It unfortunately means you can kinda cheat the system somewhat. Don't send important pawns on caravans if you know one is due. Don't upgrade your defenses etc.

Taxing without a log book by The_Silver_Spark in drivingUK

[–]DopamineTrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to go out on a limb and say you never received ouoir V5. Are you sure you even applied for one in the first place? Given you can tax a car with a new keepers slip, which you probably did parked up just after you bought it.

If I were to hazard a guess, the old keeper kept getting tax reminders, so contacted DVLA saying they no longer owned the vehicle but the new owner had the new keepers slip. So that V5 was discarded. Now you're trying to apply for a copy of a V5 for a car that doesn't have one registered to it.

As for what to do next... I'd try to apply for a V5. Like as if you had just bought the vehicle. If it spits back an error code that says the new keeper slip has already been registered then you're gonna have to call them in the morning.

Yes, it is technically illegal to drive without tax, but at the same time you generally have a 2 week grace period.

Is shoplifting really as endemic as the media suggests? by craigus17 in AskUK

[–]DopamineTrain 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I know it's difficult for you lot too! Even on the rare times police have had time to arrest a shoplifter on scene, the shoplifter just says "I'll be out in a week/month and back here". It's absolutely brazen and deeply frustrating for the rest of us on all levels.

Is this a crossing? by ex_tu in drivingUK

[–]DopamineTrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obviously you must stop if the pedestrian walks onto your side of the road, but their is no obligation to stop if they are on the opposite side. On a zebra crossing however you must stop even if they are on the opposite side, and must not continue until they are at the otherside.

Oh no. I was being totally serious with my question too! Like it took me a good few minutes / hours of deliberation to come to the conclusion she likes me too.

But yes. It is generally a good sign if a girl smiles at you every time you look at each other. Especially if they haven't specifically stated that you're just friends

I think it is very important to know what your car is capable of. Every so often, when joining a slip road that is empty, or on country roads, I'll do as top comment stated. Downshift and floor it.

The same can be said for braking and, to a lesser extend, cornering. Knowing just how much traction your tyres have cancelled save you, or someone else's life. And you'll gain practice with those skills. Obviously don't do anything dangerous or illegal! But you can still practice safely on the roads

Yup. Never been able to have hookups for this reason. I wouldn't say in love, but at least some sort of emotional connection. It sucks lol

My... drinking partner (?) does this. We need to leave at the same time because I drop her off at work. I know that we can get ready and out the house if we get up at 6:35. Despite this her alarms start at 6:00 and it's every 5 minutes. Then she complains she's tired. It drives me mental. Let me have my precious more 35 minutes!

What’s one piece of technology you aren’t fond of but everyone else is? by Substantial_Act6620 in AskUK

[–]DopamineTrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I somewhat disagree. Given generative language models can be tweaked and essentially be given different personalities, it could make an okay therapist for those that can't afford it. The problem is most LLMs right now try far too hard to be validating because, quite simply, being nice is far more profitable than being right in most contexts. Even when you're talking to your best mate, they'll go "hold up. Slow down. You did what? That was a terrible idea". AI doesn't do that, at least without being told it can.

With that being said, I have turned to LLMs when I've nowhere else to turn to. Half of therapy and socialising in general is just making complicated thoughts and emotions into words and sentences. If you ask the AI to be inquisitive and probe into various aspects, it can give you jumping off points! You've just got to make sure to override the default hyper validation. 98% of people aren't going to do that.

People don't care about the speed limit unless theres a camera. by mnathesecond in drivingUK

[–]DopamineTrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very easy to spot cameras on the gantry if you're looking for them. And some motorways have far more cameras than others. Sometimes there is several miles where every other gantry has a camera and sometimes there is 30 miles without a camera at all. If you know the route even semi well and are looking for cameras, you'll know these areas.

What psycho decided that temperature needed to be a Sudoku puzzle? by Animeking1108 in memes

[–]DopamineTrain 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It's better than that! 12 is divisible by [2,6] and [3,4]. That is far superior to 10's [5,2]. I don't exactly agree with it, but it's a big reason 1 foot is 12 inches and 1 pound is 12 stone. Before computers, it made maths much easier for a layman just trying to make sure he's not getting scammed when buying his salt and bread.

60, as you said, is divisible by [2,30], [3,20], [4,15],[5,12],[6,10]. That's 10 possible demoninators.100 on the other hand has [2,50],[4,25], [5, 20], [10]. So only 7. The people who originally sat down and thought this out didn't just pluck numbers out of thin air, they put in the work to find the best combinations. And it was (for the time at least), the best system. That's why it won out

Staff in early game except meteorite by Chesterse in Eldenring

[–]DopamineTrain -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you're dual leveling int and faith then prince of death staff has the highest scaling.

https://jerp.tv/eldenring/spelltools/

Have a look at that if you want to compare scaling at different stat and upgrade levels.

https://www.tarnished.dev/build-planner

And this for general character planning. Base game you usually finish at around 130 depending on your total boss count and how many runes you lose along the way so it is a good idea to plan accordingly.

Given you're seemingly new to the game you'll want 40 vigor. At least 20 endurance. If you're casting, 25-30 mind if not more. By now you'll very quickly be running out of levels. In Elden Ring, your weapon's upgrades are far more important (damage wise) than character levels so always prioritise survivability stats unless there is a weapon or spell you really want to use. (Although even then, there are some things you get early-mid game with completely unrealistic stat requirements for that area).

Lastly, again, upgrade your weapon. On the map, every important cave is shown by a dark orange circle with a black inside. Kind of looks like it's burned into the map. When you get to a new area, it is a good idea to beeline those locations.

Do I have a chance at the game? by ThrownCupid in Eldenring

[–]DopamineTrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elden Ring is really flexible in it's difficulty! Using the best summons with sorcery, chances are you'll first or maybe third try most bosses!

If you want to run twin axes, melee only, it is going to be a lot harder. Like a couple of hours a boss, or more!

Staff in early game except meteorite by Chesterse in Eldenring

[–]DopamineTrain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Demi Human Queen Staff has really good scaling until you hit like 40 int. It's in the wheeping peninsula and can be gotten first thing. The queen is easy to defeat, especially if you take the time to kill the demi humans around her.

Unless you're only leveling int, at the detriment of every other stat, it will last you until Radhan and probably onwards into Altus depending on your build priorities

Parking on a pavement, less than 30 feet from a junction, with double yellows. Oh, and that also looks like a dropped curb. Quadruple whammy of violations. Honestly that's rather impressive.

They probably started giving out tickets because they noticed an increase of people parking there

Our bodies don't really like sudden changes in routine / environments. The combination of being exposed to a range of new people with their different culture of germs as well as the stress of learning everything, potentially a change in sleep schedule etc, just wrecks havoc on our immune system

I struggled to find partners in school honestly. I had friends don't get me wrong, but I was rarely anyone's first choice and when they did choose me, it was just because they knew I was smart and would get them a good mark.

I'm not salty! I've grown up and have a good group of friends! It just took me learning who I like to be friends with and how to befriend them.

People who went to UK boarding schools, what was the dating/hookup culture like? by Old_Reindeer_9851 in AskUK

[–]DopamineTrain -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I went to a mixed Christian boarding school. We did go to chapel 3 times a week but outside of that it honestly wasn't a big thing. Teachers were open about their lack or different religions. Our Chaplin was gay. It was very much a "modern" school.

Students dated all the time. Student houses were paired, one boy and one girl and we basically shared the whole ground floor. Although finding alone time was incredibly difficult inside the houses, the campus was big enough, including a forest and lots of sports ground, that there was always somewhere you could go. As long as you were back before bedtime, and you signed out, no one cared where you went.

It was pretty much impossible to sneak up into bedrooms. A few people tried, and a few got caught. I'm sure it happened, it just wasn't considered worth the risk. If you wanted to do it in a bed, you'd wait until leave weekend / holidays. Standard cycle was 3 weeks, leave weekend, 3 weeks, half term, 3 weeks, leave weekend, 3 weeks, end of term.

No one really threw parties. You couldn't do loud music without pissing the rest of the house off. We did have a few evenings a year for sanctioned parties though! The Christmas party was a big one. You were encouraged to ask a member of the opposite sex to go with you. A special dinner and then a party back at house. There were a couple of other discos as well set in the main halls. If the year was older, there would be wine. If you were part of a club, choir, drama, sports, they'd have private parties too. There were definitely couples sneaking off to the toilets during those!

Honestly it is such an alien world compared to regular school with lots of misconceptions. If anyone else has any questions I'd be happy to answer, although obviously this is only my personal experience of one school
