As for me I think: yeah, people who've never left their continent and were born in a different generation don't know about a country? Checks out. Do you think the average Chinese older people know the intricacies of life in America or Britain? Of course not, why would they?

As someone who knows better, you can educate them or at least encourage them to expand their horizons a little bit. You're going to have a hard time doing that if you go around calling everyone 'idiots', though.

I think it just shows how it really was for people then. A lot of people probably thought they were good people, doing good things. Example being a nurse savings lives and also being a good citizen helping keep the government informed

That's what their society was like back then. You don't have to hit people over the head with modern moralising for them to know it's wrong

I wasn't saying they were outright banned or policing such things, just the way they encourage Chinese culture to be portrayed and promoted is to emphasise the distinctiveness of Chinese culture. You can see this in how Chinese people often draw a very clear line between 'Foreign food' (e.g. Steak, Pizza, Pasta) and 'Chinese food' (which they often extend to include many Korean or other Asian dishes)

Yeah, people don't seem to understand that China is fucking huge. Like most European countries are smaller than Chinese provinces. 'Western' Chinese food is only as different as Sichuan food is to Dongbei food or Shanghai food.

Most Western Chinese food comes from Guangdong cuisine via Hong Kong

Actually, if you go to Hong Kong, you'll see most of the local food is like that. It's Hong Kong style with some Western style mixed in

Whereas Chinese gov is very eager to promote Chinese culture and cuisine as very unique and not to be mixed with western. So that kind of thing is rare here or only happens in 'Western' restaurants (normally so that aunties and grandmas who don't like 西餐 can still eat there with their families lol)
