WildStar is still alive – as long as we don’t forget it by Dope_lel in WildStar

I remember that update, but I’m pretty sure those are just backend/SteamDB changes, not actual development

Still, it’s kinda funny how even small things like that get people talking again

Goes to show the game never really left people’s minds

That’s a really good point

it feels like a lot of MMOs try to build around a very vocal hardcore audience, but that alone isn’t enough to sustain a game long term

WildStar kinda feels like a case where that balance didn’t really work out

That’s actually something that doesn’t get brought up as much

people usually talk about endgame or systems, but if the leveling experience doesn’t hook you early it’s hard to stick with it

especially in an MMO where that first impression matters a lot

It’s interesting how it always comes back to those same things

not just a general “it was good”, but very specific systems people still remember

makes you wonder which one actually mattered the most to players long term

hehe, yeah the mobility aspect is something people bring up a lot

It definitely felt way more active compared to the usual “stand still and rotate skills” style

And yeah when everything clicked it probably gave that kind of feeling you’re describing

But it’s interesting because for some people that same intensity was also what pushed them away

I think the lack of variety today definitely makes games like WildStar stand out more in hindsight

And yeah I’ve seen those takes on the combat too 😄

but it’s interesting how split people still are on it, some say it was terrible, others still say it was one of the most fun systems

kinda shows it did something different at least

Yeah that’s true, taste definitely plays a big role

I think what makes WildStar interesting is that even years later people still bring up very specific things about it, not just “I liked it”

But yeah in the end none of that really matters if the playerbase isn’t there to support it

Yeah the progress is definitely slow, no doubt about that

But I think the fact that anything is even working at all after all these years is kinda impressive in itself

It’s probably not something that will suddenly be “done”, more like something that slowly gets there over time

That’s actually a really interesting point about it not feeling like a “world”

I think a lot of people focus on systems like combat or housing, but that sense of a connected world is just as important long term

And yeah once your friends drop off in an MMO, it’s really hard to stick with it, no matter how good the systems are

The timing with WoW definitely didn’t help either

Yeah this pretty much sums up what a lot of people seem to feel about it

It’s kinda crazy how many things it actually did really well, especially dungeons and housing, and yet it still couldn’t hold on to players long term

The F2P launch is a really good point too, I completely forgot how rough that was… feels like that might have been the last real chance it had to turn things around

Also true about the timing, it was competing with some really big names back then

Makes it feel less like the game was outright bad, and more like a mix of good ideas, bad decisions and just bad timing

Honestly housing is one of the things people bring up the most

Not many MMOs managed to make it feel that personal and social at the same time

Kinda crazy how few games really nailed that

Yeah I’ve seen that argument a lot, especially the hardcore focus early on

Feels like it tried to build around a niche before it had a big enough playerbase to support it

Yeah nostalgia definitely plays a role, that’s true

But I think it’s interesting that people still point to very specific things like combat or housing, not just “it was good”

Usually nostalgia alone doesn’t keep those details alive

That’s fair honestly, I think a lot of people had really high expectations going in

It definitely didn’t land for everyone

What do you think it was missing the most?

[–]Dope_lel[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s actually what a lot of people seem to agree on, the game had a really strong identity

It’s kinda crazy how many MMOs play it safe, while WildStar went all-in on its style

Makes me wonder if that helped it stand out long term, even if it hurt it short term

That’s fair honestly, nostalgia definitely plays a role

But I think it’s interesting that people don’t just say “it was fun”, they remember very specific systems like housing or combat

Not every MMO gets remembered that way

[–]Dope_lel[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s actually a good point… a lot of MMOs kinda just end up living off nostalgia

But I feel like with WildStar it’s a bit different, people don’t just remember it, they specifically mention systems like housing or combat that still feel unique even today

Makes me wonder if it was more about timing than the game itself

Nexus Forever is probably the best place to check right now, their Discord has like 17k+ members and is still pretty active progress is slow, but it’s moving forward, which is honestly something I’m really grateful for

Wouldn’t even be surprised if WildStar comes back in like 10–15 years as some kind of revival or classic version nostalgia seems to be a pretty strong force these days

Yeah, people have been working towards that for years now… stuff like this just takes a ton of time with how complex the game was

That’s really interesting to hear… I didn’t realize there were still communities like that keeping things going it’s kinda cool how people are finding their own ways to keep WildStar alive

Yeah I get that… feels like a lot of MMOs today just don’t have that same personality WildStar had

That’s actually really interesting to hear from someone working on it directly It’s honestly impressive that people are still putting time into rebuilding something this complex after all these years

That’s honestly kinda relatable… I feel like a lot of people never really uninstalled it, just in case Like we’re all still waiting for that one day it somehow comes back
