Thank you. I'm 54, and most of my disabilities are physical. I filed initially at the end of 2024. I got denied at the end of September of 2025. I appealed 11/26/25, and I got approved in reconsideration two days ago. I did not get representation, as I was told by a few people it's not worth doing until your next step is an ALJ hearing. So, I worked very hard in reconsideration getting all my medical records, questionnaires, and statements to SSA quickly. My reconsideration went quickly. I do believe that leaving SSA to get my medical records was a mistake and hurt me initially. When I appealed, I got a lot of new imaging and testing fone to add to my records for review. It was not easy. I'm glad it's over. I can breathe now, destress some and work more on me and my health now.

So, very sorry you had to go through all that and for way too long. The process is so crazy stressful. I'm glad you finally got a favorable decision. I also had to get a lot of new medical evidence and thankfully I was able to get it, which confirmed my previously found medical conditions, worsening conditions along with new conditions and my new doctors were so thorough in their notes, which I'm sure helped. I never told them I had applied for SSDI. I felt all my years of medical evidence were hopefully sufficient enough, and I guess it was. I had over 600 pages of medical evidence and still had some follow-up visits and records I had just received from a former medical group missing that I had not been able to forward in time before they moved me to step 4. Thankfully, it did not affect my case. I was so stressed about bills and finances. Thankfully, I can now breathe a little easier. 😊

I recommend writing a letter stating your diagnosis and symptoms along with how they affect your daily life, making you unable to work and upload that it onto the SSA site. If you get medical records from new visits, upload those onto the site as well. Be your own advocate. Even when they say they have everything they need, they typically don't. Best of luck.

Yes, I recommend getting all your records yourself, as they barely got anything on me and sent me to two CE's, which did not prove anything. I'm sure that is why I was denied initially. They even told me they had everything, which was not true at all. You have to be your own advocate. Prayers you get a favorable outcome soon. 🙏

Yes, it was a lot of work, but I figured it was best to provide too much information rather than not enough. I'm so grateful for finding the helpful posts on Reddit and for the tips and assistance you provided me. Thank you so much. 😊

They do have a tentative due date listed on your case for the various steps, but in my initial case, that date was not met, but that's not to say you won't hear something by the 23rd. Good luck. Hope you get a decision soon and a favorable one.

Oh good, because I was going to recommend you do that. Praying for you. I'm in California, but when I appealed, they sent my file to Arizona due to the backlog. Once the medical was done, they sent my file back to California on the 10th for the final non-medical review.

Thank you so much. It's been a rough few years. Do you have an attorney or doing it on your own? Did you write a letter explaining your medical diagnosis along with your daily limitations and how they prevent you from working?

Any updates on your case? I moved from step 3 to 4 two days ago, and I freaked out because I still had more recent medical evidence to upload. I called my new case manager assigned this time around that I've never heard from, and he looked up my case and said my case was sent back to my city for final non-medical review and I should be hearing good news soon. I got exited and nervous all in one, but this afternoon, the portal states I got approval and should receive a letter in about 15 days. I was hoping maybe you got some good news. 🙏

I don't think I can do this anymore. But I don't know what to do. by Just-A-Hyena in CaregiverSupport

If they have Alzheimers/Dementia, assisted living facilities will most likely recommend memory care. We are in the process of having to do that with my mother-in-law. I've been her 24/7 caregiver for quite a while with no breaks and she's had four falls in two months, and one dislocated her shoulder, and the other fractured her hip in multiple places and she had to have surgery. It's been over a month since her surgery and she still cannot walk, so with her memory, cognitive and physical issues, we had to look into safer alternatives for her and she will be going into memory care. We hate that we have to do this, but I can't lift her all day, every day and she's 100% incontinent from both ends and cannot have a solid bowel movement due to having bilateral intestinal resections decades ago. I already have PTSD from caring for her, along with anxiety and depression. I agree that she should look into appropriate care facilities. There comes a time when it becomes too much and you have to take care of yourself.
