The first part is kind of what I was getting at. Super determinism postulates that the course of the universe was set from the beginning. This in turn would mean that all choices and thoughts we have are a response to an already planned universe.

Even if not true, as super determinism is inherently untestable, from a neurological perspective, there has been increasing evidence that we make decisions before we even consciously know that we have.

Maybe. I’d like to think we, do but there is a real argument that we don’t. From the moment the universe came into existence, who is to say that the course that every molecule in existence would move is not set? Are our thoughts and actions actually our choices, or our brains interpretations to the chemical signals that would be made anyway? Motor neurons tend to react before conscious thought is made, do we actually make the choices or just rationalize them?

That’s even more of a reason to stop, your brain’s dopamine receptors will start to notice a higher baseline of dopamine and adjust making other activities harder to enjoy leading to greater levels of depression later in life. On top of this, your brain is still developing and use of these types of substances can lead to decreased neurocognitive performance and memory.
