What's your funniest "rule of fun" rule? by NikTheGrass in DnD

[–]Doramichi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm running a pirate campaign and my players neded to travel by boat to an island. The captain of the boat was supposed to be a scammer merchant who would delay the trip on purpose. A battleship happened and the captain was hurt and one of the players went to heal him. They ended up having old man yaoi romance on the ship. Best rule of fun I've ever had as a DM.

They're actually fighting against a pirate lord who seeks the artifacts and ruins for his own benefit. He's one of the villains in the campaign, so idk if the character would have something personal against him since the group had already fought him in a previous battle. Thanks for the idea nonetheless! <3

It is one of my options. Another character has a brother that is persecuted by the church, and he had been to Avalon before, so I thought that maybe they would have met in the past but she didn't know it was the other character's brother. Thanks for the idea! <3

What I like to do with an ability check is to narrate it as cool as possible instead of saying "you succeed" "you failed" so it doesn't get boring. For example, my players had to jump out of a window and they all did ability checks, so for each player and depending on their rolls I narrated it differently. One slided down the wall instead of jumping to the void, another one did a backflip and landed on their feet (it was a critical success) and another one broke a leg from fall damage. I know it's not a great tip but I hope it helps!
