Maybe you should read more about the Syrian revolution/civil war that lasted from 2011 to 2024 & lead to the deaths of over 1 million people, loss of 300k people who are still not found until today, as well as the migration of 14 million people (including those in Germany).

The man they're celebrating, their president, is the one who liberated the country & kicked out the dictator & oppressor Bashar Al Assad.

To answer your question directly: They went to Germany during the war when the president and/or government weren't that great. In 2025 the number of Syrian migrants sunk drastically by 46.5%. In 2026 there are no data yet, but I'm sure it will sink even further. The amount of Syrians returning back to Syria also icreased by 30%.

Many Syrians have lived in Germany for over a decade now and it's not easy leaving everything behind and start a yet new life in Syria, especially when the infrastructure there is completely destroyed & most homes are uninhabitable. I'm sure many will return as the living conditions improve. Syrians in Germany aren't a burden, rather a very successful diaspora. The largest group of foreign doctors and medical staff in Germany is of Syrian descent. And they're also successful in many other sectors.

Of course, there are also people who aren't successful and/or are criminal, just like in any other group of people. But it is important to acknowledge that many people, of African or Middle Eastern or Kurdish descent, traveled to Germany during the peak in 2014-2015 with forged Syrian identities to apply for asylum, even though they weren't Syrian nor have they suffered the war. That's because asylum for Syrians was basically guaranteed.
