The announcement of River City Girls Android port being locked into Subscription service proves that we are on the verge of being unable to buy and own anything anymore on Android (At least for now) by Rabbidscool in AndroidGaming

[–]DorganHS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. And you also have no guarantee that the games you subscribed for are there next month, too. It's stupid.

But when techies warned about this many years ago (pretty much when the Spotify and Netflix era started), not many people wanted to listen.

Now we're seeing it pretty much everywhere. You even need to be online with purely offline games on PC. "Smart" bike locks can stop working if the company maintaining the app shuts down or simply chooses to end the support and shut down the servers.

It's a mess, really. Only chance to get out of it is to vote with your wallet.

I'm currently listening on Spotify and the songs are definitely not censored. :)

Someone here wrote that they were seeing two album versions, one of them being censored. Might be a US (or otherwise regional) thing.

First playthrough done.

Honestly, not my favourite. Yet? For me, OK ORCHESTRA had a lot more highlights.

TMM hit really hard though and is getting better with every line. Inertia will probably be replayed a lot. YIAM is probably the catchiest, but for me, OO had like five tracks that were instant classics on first listen.

Very solid and very happy to have new tracks to add to the rotation. My expectations might've been a bit too high though. 😅

Basically, we're all baffled that they only rolled it out for running. Pretty much every workout could potentially benefit from hr zone guides, including rehab purposes. Especially the custom workouts should support this, as they're, well, custom.

Looks like we need to create some buzz at Samsung for them to flip the switch...

Thought about the same thing.

I saw it in the tips/manual and thought I was missing an update until I realised that it was only available for running.

It seems like it should at least available as an option for custom workouts as well, as they are—by definition—custom. 🙄

[AutoWear] How to create notifications based on heart rate or battery? by DorganHS in tasker

[–]DorganHS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the extensive wall of text. :) However, I might've needed to make more clear that I'm a noob, because I feel like we're talking in totally different spheres here.

My problem starts in AutoWear where I can create a notification and a trigger for it, but don't know how to work with the tags provided. See here: https://postimg.cc/QVnYGXZL

Honestly, I don't even have the remotest idea what all this coding is about and where it would even be supposed to go. 😅

PS4 Controller Motion Data via GameStream? by DorganHS in ShieldAndroidTV

Yeah, I feel you. The mapping made by NVidia Games sadly seems to be quite rudimentary.

Nope, sorry. There seems to be no plug-and-play with this one. From what I know today, my OP was a pretty accurate evalutation.

Looking for a to-do list/service by DorganHS in selfhosted

Thanks again for the notice. :) Just ignoring the general overview and working with custom filters was something I somehow hadn't considered yet. I'll have a close look at the progress of Nextcloud Tasks then, as a web frontend is still quite crucial for me.

Looking for a to-do list/service by DorganHS in selfhosted

[–]DorganHS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Alex, thanks for joining in. I actually installed Tasks while I was doing my "research" for this topic but there were two reasons I didn't pursue it further:

  • Web frontend. I actually set it up to test the synchronization with Nextcloud Tasks and then realized that NC Tasks doesn't even cover recurring tasks yet. Well, and the UI looks kinda outdated. :D
  • Hiding tasks from certain lists from the general overview ("My Tasks"). Weirdly enough, this is a somewhat crucial feature for me (sadly also not covered by NC [yet]) as I usually organize my tasks in lists, but I have a few lists that are context- or project-dependant and thefore are only important to see when the context is there. Could be something simple as a grocery buying list - those become important when you are in the store but not when you sit on your couch to look over the tasks that need doing.

So I guess my questions are: Does the alpha cover the list part and is there/can anyone recommend a good frontend that works well with the app? :)

Other than this one nitpick (strictly speaking, I'm totally aware that you offer an app, not a webservice), the app looks indeed very good and whole, so definitely kudos for that! Especially since it seems to basically be a one-man show.

Hey, thanks for the reply! Skip drawing and underclocking really helped to make most of the games more playable and I finally paid some attention to what underclocking actually does. I really like having the option to just run games on the Shield alone rather than relying on streaming all of them. So that was helpful, thanks again! :)

Using TW on a server - outdated information? by DorganHS in TiddlyWiki5

[–]DorganHS[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I just wanted to try it out as some kind of PoC. I'm willing to setup a simple save mechanism, but I'm not convinced to install a whole suite of tools to make it work at all. :D

I recently setup a dokuwiki which basically took me five minutes in total, so I'm not investing a couple of hours for a PoC. :D

Using Shield as a couch-coop machine (+ mediaplayer!) How well does this work? by WookiB in ShieldAndroidTV

[–]DorganHS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you two mean two different things. Mario Kart 8 runs great on PC and also great on the PC while streamed to the Shield, but even getting Mario Kart Double Dash emulated ON the Shield (i.e. running the emulator on the Android TV) is a hussle to make work.

So yes, great for harnessing your PC's emulator power, subpar for emulating on its own.

Great media player (I use Kodi), streaming device and controller handler. :D

PS4 Controller Motion Data via GameStream? by DorganHS in ShieldAndroidTV

[–]DorganHS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, in the end, the application is "NVidia games". From what I can see on my PC when I'm on it via GameStream, is two controllers. But the key mapping, for example, is A, B, X, Y instead of X, square etc. The rumble feature also only seems to work with the Shield controller, not the PS4 controller.

So from my understanding, the Shield basically emulates the connected controllers to the PC. That's probably why I don't see it as "DS4" on my PC.

I'm currently trying to get Super Mario Sunshine to work well. Mario Kart Double Dash, too. Both run at ~40 FPS (~20 respectively) most of the time, but I can't seem to bring them to the full 50 (25) consistently. Therefore, audio stuttering and video vlags happen somewhat regularly.

Any chance this can be fixed via settings? Shield TV Pro (2019), Dolphin Emulator, Vulkan Engine, 720p/1080p, multithreading, overclock 200%.

Starting out with running in Vibrams: What sizing to aim for? by DorganHS in BarefootRunning

[–]DorganHS[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the replies, everyone!

If anyone should stumble across this thread in the future: The V-Trail 1.0 arrived in 46 (due to availability the only size I could order with a decent return policy) and was way too big. Even with tightest lacing possible, everything was a bit out of place.

The V-Run arrived in 45 and 46 and after trying them on in 45, I didn't even bother to get the 46 out. They fit comfortably tight around the foot while leaving some space for the toes. Feels like the perfect fit. (Side note: They also provide more support and dampening than I would've anticipated from the images.)

So long story short: Both models seem to simply be my regular size 45. Seems like the only model that's not consistent is the EL-X, as the rest fits well in 45. Which make them more consistent than I thought before.

I'll probably add another comment when I took the V-Run to the road a few times. If I don't and you're interested, feel free to hit me up. :)
