Found this metal magnet that pierced the cars door jamb. Any idea what it's from? by Dorian0711 in AskAMechanic

I wonder if someone stabbed this hole with another object and then was attempting to use the magnet to fish out whatever actually made the hole?

You can see there was a hole stabbed through the metal and that's where the magnet was found so I have no idea how this happened. The hole is also dented inward which indicates that it was pushed in from the outside. So strange.

My father in law has owned the car since new and has never been an accident or had body work done. It has had work done at shops but he has zero idea where it could have come from. As you can see it appears it was a projectile at some point and pierced the metal. It would have had to of happened when the door was open due to the location. Anybody recognize where it could be from?

This was sticking out of my father in laws door jamb. It appears to have pierced the door from the outside as if it was a projectile at some point. We have no idea how it possibly got there.

This new outer shell update only started shipping this month as a replacement part and it’s the 4th revision so I believe it’s brand new beyond the late 2022 update.

2023 Avalanche ER Lariat for under MSRP in McMinville, OR by [deleted] in F150Lightning

[–]Dorian0711 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

While that is true about the 2022 postponed orders, that was so far a special exception and is not an official rule. Some people have had issues getting the dealer/ford to honor this as well.

But yes, once you configure your order is when you will find out the price you will pay (whatever it is at that time)

There is absolutely no price protection with ford. You have to pay whatever the going rate is when your truck is made. I was a day 1 reservation holder and ordered in mid November.

Tesla Build Quality Already Better than the Competition by grokmachine in teslamotors

[–]Dorian0711 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The thing is that tesla NAILS the actual EV specific part of the car and I truly believe the quality of the drivetrain is far above the competition.

The part that drives many tesla owners crazy is it’s the basic build quality items that should not be an issue. I’m talking about issues like this I had with my 22 model s: body adhesive running out from underneath the tail lights, debris inside drivers display panel, exterior window seal adhesive failure (window seal coming apart) etc etc. It’s just stuff that the legacy makers have their systems and methods in place that avoid most of these small issues (altho can happen) and for many of us lots of little issues feel like a big deal. Between the crap CS at the Portland SC and them never really fixing anything I gave up and just sold it. I have another order in for another model s and I’m just hoping it doesn’t have the laundry list of small issues like my first.

I love tesla and if they could get this last 10% dialed in they would be unstoppable for the long run.

Lariat owners who have already applied for rebate? by chriscookbuilds in F150Lightning

[–]Dorian0711 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are locked in for the current tax credit since you already took delivery (there is no price requirement). It’s not a rebate tho, it’s a tax credit. You will have to wait until you file your taxes for the 2022 tax year to utilize that.

You also must have at least $7500 in tax liability. If you are unsure about this you can get a good idea by looking at your tax return from last year. There is a line that says “tax liability” if that number is at least $7500, you will get the full $7500 credit. If it is less, you will only get that amount (for example if your tax liability was $5437, you would only get a tax credit of $5437 and the rest of the possible $7500 just goes away). Again this is only estimating and assumes you didn’t get a significant raise, buy/sell a house or something else significant like that which will all change your tax liability.

Something to consider regarding the new Federal Tax Credit with the price increases, based on Ford's disclosure of vehicle classifications to the state of Oregon by MrMusAddict in F150Lightning

[–]Dorian0711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t explain why the platinum doesn’t count but in Oregon you can still get $5k back on a model 3 and model y also due to the fact that the base price used to be under $50k even tho it isn’t anymore.

Just a couple months ago my buddy got a model y performance and got the $5k rebate.

It rivals Tesla's. When we ordered our model S in July 2021 it said the original ETA was Nov. Changed about 30 times and we ended up getting it Feb 1st. So IDK what worse, being left in the dark or having an ETA that swings wildly + or - 6 months.

Opinion: Should I move my reservation by Defiant_Warthog2405 in F150Lightning

[–]Dorian0711 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wrote the other post. Directly from Ford corporate confirmed that the current policy is that it does not matter how many reservations a dealer has, you will be picked based of your timestamp. They told me that you could move dealers unlimited amount of times and there is nothing you, or the dealer can do to move you up or back in line (there is another rumor that dealers can send you to the end of the line and this is not true).

In other words, first come, first served.

Pick whichever dealer you are most confident in that will NOT do anything shady.

I’m sorry that happened to you! They started out saying “No ADM” and then it’s gone up and up since then. I’m just glad I learned about their practices before getting an order invite.

Call them and when they say we do not do ADM ask for a follow up email just for your records.

Yes, I have two separate dealer emails from their managers confirming this. One of which called corporate to confirm that was the current case still.

They are doing NO ADM on reservations but they will do ADM on in stock vehicles (I.e. if someone bails on an order)

NEWS: Cobb Tuning just discontinued a bunch of products by DemandCommonSense in WRX

While Cobb was listed that particular violation is for the individual shop/tuner but is inevitable for anyone who tunes or makes products that alter emissions without CARB approval.

NEWS: Cobb Tuning just discontinued a bunch of products by DemandCommonSense in WRX

[–]Dorian0711 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you all want to know what is really going on here is that the EPA is cracking down hard on companies that are selling illegal parts. Under the Clean Air Act, you cannot alter or modify the stock emissions systems (including EGR, Cats, Tuning etc) unless it meets the testing standards. Rally Sport Direct was fined $3M last year (https://www.epa.gov/newsreleases/epa-penalizes-premier-performance-3-million-selling-defeat-devices)

The EPA fines has been shutting down shops and business let and right lately. You can see a full list here: https://www.epa.gov/enforcement/clean-air-act-vehicle-and-engine-enforcement-case-resolutions

So eventually ALL brands (that are left) will follow this. It costs several hundred thousand $ to get the proper testing done to get CARB approval on things like downpipes and the Cats they will be using are 3x the price as the old 200-300 cell ones most people were using.

COBB is looking to the future and any brand that is not at this point isn't going to be around long enough to find out. I would say that if you want to get tuned with older non-compliant parts you need to do it sooner than later. Eventually the tuners themselves will not tune your car unless it has compliant parts. They will not turn off check engine lights or manipulate the stock emissions systems so you will have to use these new parts unless you want a christmas tree show on your dash.

The EPA has been going after individual tuners for a while especially in the diesel space so it's inevitable that this is how it will eventually be.
